Description

The Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime is Blake Medical's lighter gel wheelchair back support with a spinal gel insert and no full-face extra gel layer. Westin Healthcare fits it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area after a seating check on the chair.

This is the Prime, not the Silverback Max. Blake rates the Silverback line at 250 lb (113 kg). Ask us for width, height, and contour (Active, Deep, or Extra Deep) when you order.

Who this back support is for

The Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime is a wheelchair back support Blake Medical indicates when the person needs a spinal gel strip and a lighter shell than the Max. Blake says the gel moves with the body in an upright sit or in full tilt, and that it is there for pressure redistribution along the high-risk spinal column. The Prime does not add the Max's full-face gel layer.

A seating therapist should confirm the width, height, and contour. This page does not give clinical positioning advice. If you have questions about wounds, posture, or hardware on a specific chair, ask the therapist who assessed you, or call us and we will book that conversation.

Fit, contour, and hardware

A wheelchair back support should match the chair, not a clothing size. Measure the back canes and the width the person needs. Blake prints 27 standard Prime configurations: widths 14, 16, 18, 20, and 22 inches, heights Standard 16 in, Tall 18 in, and Extra-Tall 20 in, plus custom. Contours are Active 2.5 in, Deep 4 in, and Extra Deep 6 in.

Tell us the width, height, and contour the therapist wants. The order code is style, width, height, contour: Prime examples start with P, for example P16SA for Prime, 16 in, Standard, Active. Custom height and width are available from Blake.

The quick-release hardware uses a rubber grip around the back canes, a clamp, and a locking catch. Blake prints 45 degrees of angle adjustment and 2 inches of depth adjustment, and says a 16 inch back can sit on an 18 inch chair with 1.5 inch pins. We set the hardware on the chair at delivery.

  • Foam and gel thickness 2.5 in (6.4 cm)
  • 1.75 in foam with a 3.75 in wide Pillow Top spinal insert, full height

Gel, cover, and care

The Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime is a wheelchair back support with an aluminum shell, foam, and a full-height Pillow Top gel strip along the spine. Blake's gel is a mineral-oil dry-polymer solid. Blake says it stays in place on a vertical surface and is not pulled down by gravity.

The standard cover is ultra-stretchy breathable fabric. Wipeable fabric is a Blake extra. Follow the cover-care card that ships with the back. Do not use bleach on Geo-Matrix gel.

Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime specifications

These figures are from Blake Medical's current Prime card and the hosted Silverback brochure. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Thickness 2.5 in (6.4 cm) foam and gel. Spinal insert 3.75 in wide, full height. Weight capacity 250 lb (113 kg). 27 standard configurations. Custom height and width available. Quick-release hardware with 45 degree angle and 2 in depth travel. Warranty on the live card: 2 years on the backrest, shell, and hardware; 1 year on the cover.

Silverback Prime or Silverback Max

Stay here if you want the lighter Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime. The Geo-Matrix Silverback Max Backrest adds a full-face gel layer for the extra skin protection and vibration dampening Blake points at power and tilt chairs. Pair a Prime with the Geo-Matrix Hybrid Cushion or the Geo-Matrix Bronze Gel Cushion when the seating therapist wants gel on the seat as well.

A seating therapist should pick Prime or Max. We will not choose it from a web form.

Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario

This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, fit the hardware on the canes, set the angle and depth, and show you the quick-release catch before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a wheelchair back support first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased backs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the back is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the back needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Blake Medical manufacturer warranty

Blake Medical's current Silverback Prime card prints a 2-year limited warranty on the backrest, shell, and hardware, and a 1-year limited warranty on the cover. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

How Do I Choose A Wheelchair Back Support?

The Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime is the lighter wheelchair back support with a spinal gel insert. The Silverback Max adds a full-face gel layer. A seating therapist should pick Prime or Max, then the contour (Active, Deep, or Extra Deep) and the height after seeing the person in the chair.

What Size Wheelchair Cushion Do I Need?

A wheelchair cushion is a separate product from this back. Measure the seat for a cushion and the back canes for this Prime. Tell us the width, height, and contour the therapist wants. Blake's standard Prime matrix runs 14 to 22 inches wide and 16, 18, or 20 inches tall.

How Do I Choose Between Gel, Foam, And Air Cushions?

The Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime is a gel wheelchair back support, not a seat cushion. For the seat, gel, foam, and air are different jobs. Ask the seating therapist which seat medium fits the assessment, then pair it with this back if the therapist wants Prime.

Does ADP Cover Wheelchair Cushions?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment, when the seating is required with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the person and the device. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.

Is The Silverback Prime The Same As The Max?

The Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime uses a spinal gel insert only and is the lighter option. The Silverback Max adds a full-face gel layer. Both are rated 250 lb (113 kg). They are separate Blake models.

What Ontario Code Does The Prime Use?

Historical Ontario reprints list Silverback Prime Active as SE0001108, Prime Deep as SE0001688, and Prime Extra Deep as SE0001690. The code depends on the contour you order. Ask us before any funding paperwork starts.

What Is The Weight Capacity Of The Silverback Prime?

The Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime is rated 250 lb (113 kg) at all degrees on Blake Medical's current card. Stay at or under that rating.

Will The Hardware Fit My Chair?

Blake Medical says the Silverback quick-release hardware fits on any chair, with a rubber grip on the canes and optional 1.5 inch pins so a 16 inch back can sit on an 18 inch chair. We confirm the canes at setup. Ask us if the chair uses an unusual tube size.

What Comes With The Silverback Prime?

The Geo-Matrix Silverback Prime is ordered as the aluminum shell, foam and gel, cover, and quick-release hardware for the width, height, and contour you pick. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets it up across Brampton and the GTA.
