Description
The Ride Designs Java Back is Ride's configurable wheelchair back support for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Sunrise Medical's Canadian Ride card sends the reader to Ride Designs for the spec tables. The back is quote-only through Westin as a Ride certified provider.
It is not a Spex cube back and it is not a Ride Custom Back. FlexLoc hardware is not a Java Back option.
Who this back is for
The Ride Java Back fits a person whose seating therapist wants Ride's non-flat shell in Regular, Tall, or Grande height, with a 3 inch or 6 inch contour. A seating therapist should confirm the height and depth. This page does not give clinical positioning advice.
- Capacity 300 lbs (136 kg)
- Widths 14 to 20 inches
- Quick-release hardware, 20 degrees of angle
Heights, depths, and accessories
Regular sits below the scapulae at 14 inches. Tall sits mid-scapula at 18 inches. Grande sits at the top of the shoulder at 22 inches. Each height is Regular 3 inch or Deep 6 inch. Ride prints that laterals fit Regular contour, not Deep. Headrest compatibility starts at Tall. Shoulder harness is Grande only. A privacy flap is available.
Mount hardware
Java Back quick-release hardware is 1.3 lbs (0.6 kg), 20 degrees of angle (5 forward, 15 back), and 2 inches (5 cm) of seat depth. It fits round canes from 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) to 1 inch (2.5 cm). The owner's handbook says the clamp is for round tubing only. A permanent mount is also printed. Ride's FAQ says FlexLoc is not available on the Java Back.

How Ride custom seating is ordered
Ride Designs sells through Ride certified providers. Westin is that dealer path in Brampton and the GTA. A seating therapist and our staff assess first. For Custom 2, Custom AccuSoft from a shape, and Custom Back from a shape, Ride captures a bead-bag shape, scans it, and sends the scan, photos, and order form through the RideWorks app. Ride keeps the scan for later growth or a remake.
Ride also prints a made-from-measurements path for some Custom Back and AccuSoft orders, and AccuSoft can be specified from a trial Java Cushion. Ride says people with significant postural asymmetry get a better outcome from a scanned shape. Java and Forward cushions, and Java and Java Decaf backs, are configured stock shapes, not scanned custom, but they are still quote-only here.
Which Ride wheelchair back
Stay with the Ride Java Back if a configured Ride shell on 3/4 to 1 inch round canes is the brief. The Ride Java Decaf Back is the pediatric Java. The Ride Custom Back is scanned or measured custom on FlexLoc.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers this wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, check it against the wheelchair, and show you the cover and any hardware before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a sample first. For a scheduled in-home drop-off, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased seating is delivered on a scheduled date after the assessment and quote.
If the order is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
