The Ride Designs Java Cushion is Ride's configured skin-protection wheelchair cushion for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Sunrise Medical's Canadian Ride card sends the reader to Ride Designs for the spec tables.

This is a quote-only configured cushion. It is foam on a vented polyethylene base, not an air-cell cushion and not a scanned Custom 2.

Who this cushion is for

Ride writes the Java Cushion for relatively low to mild postural challenges when the therapist wants Ride's contour without a custom scan. A seating therapist should confirm Java versus Forward or Custom 2. This page does not give clinical positioning advice.

Foam, cover, and care

The Ride Java Cushion uses a vented base, contoured top foam, and a breathable spacer mesh cover. Ride prints that it does not need routine air or fluid volume checks. The outer cover is machine washable. The inner incontinence cover and base can be sanitized. Width and depth modifications are printed as no extra charge on Ride's current page.

How Ride custom seating is ordered

Ride Designs sells through Ride certified providers. Westin is that dealer path in Brampton and the GTA. A seating therapist and our staff assess first. For Custom 2, Custom AccuSoft from a shape, and Custom Back from a shape, Ride captures a bead-bag shape, scans it, and sends the scan, photos, and order form through the RideWorks app. Ride keeps the scan for later growth or a remake.

Ride also prints a made-from-measurements path for some Custom Back and AccuSoft orders, and AccuSoft can be specified from a trial Java Cushion. Ride says people with significant postural asymmetry get a better outcome from a scanned shape. Java and Forward cushions, and Java and Java Decaf backs, are configured stock shapes, not scanned custom, but they are still quote-only here.

Which Ride wheelchair cushion

Stay with the Ride Java Cushion if a configured Ride foam cushion is the brief. The Ride Forward Cushion is the milder visco top, including pediatric 10 by 10. The Ride Custom 2 Cushion is scanned custom. The Ride Custom AccuSoft Cushion is the softer custom surface.

Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario

This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost.
