Description

The RGK Octane FX is a made to measure folding rigid wheelchair: Grade 9 titanium with RGK's Q-Lock so the everyday chair packs for a car trunk or, on many flights, an overhead bin. Westin Healthcare is an authorized Sunrise Medical dealer. An occupational therapist or physiotherapist measures the person, Westin writes the RGK order, and RGK builds the frame to those numbers. This is not a boxed chair that ships the next day.

Sunrise Canada prints the chair at 12.13 lb (5.5 kg). RGK's UK card treats 5.5 kg as the transport weight without wheels and cushion on a 400 mm seat. User weight is 265 lb (120 kg). Seat width and depth run 250 to 460 mm (9.8 to 18.1 in). It is an everyday travel rigid, not a sports chair and not a transport chair.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who will self-propel a made-to-measure titanium rigid, wants that chair to fold for travel, fits the Octane FX size range, and stays at or under 265 lb (120 kg). Families usually call us when airline holds or a small car trunk are the reason a non-folding Sub4 will not work.

If you want the lighter non-folding titanium Sub4, see the RGK Octane Sub4. If you want an aluminum Q-Lock instead, see the RGK Tiga Series Tiga FX frame.

  • Everyday self-propel use on a titanium frame that Q-Lock folds
  • Sunrise Canada prints 12.13 lb (5.5 kg) for the chair as specified
  • Seat width and depth set after the therapist measures

How RGK measures and builds the chair

Westin meets the person with the therapist, then sends RGK the order. RGK's made-to-measure process takes more than 30 measurements, draws the frame in CAD, and has one technician build it. Sunrise prints 19 quality checks from measure to handover. Fold geometry, colour, camber, and upholstery are written on the RGK order form.

A floor chair, if we can show one, will not match every prescribed size. Do not buy the chair before an ADP application is in motion if you need the program to pay its share.

Design and build

The Q-Lock turns a rigid everyday chair into a compact travel package. Sunrise's fold sequence on the sister Tiga FX is: remove the cushion, flatten the sideguards, fold the front frame under the seat rail, fold the back, and take off the quick-release wheels. Fold-flat sideguards sit on titanium plates welded to the frame. The caster housing is a sealed titanium assembly. Airtech upholstery is standard on the Canada card.

Camber is 0 to 5 degrees. Centre of gravity adjusts 0 to 178 mm (0 to 7.0 in). The Canada card says the folded chair can fit in most airplane overhead bins and compact car trunks. The Tiga Series page for the same Q-Lock family adds that it may not fit every bin, so check with the airline before you fly. We use that honesty here.

RGK Octane FX specifications

These figures are for model FXT on Sunrise Medical's Canadian card. The specification tab holds the stored values. Do not mix them with Octane Sub4 or Tiga FX numbers.

Frame: Grade 9 titanium, Q-Lock folding rigid. Product weight: 12.13 lb (5.5 kg) on the Canada table. User weight: 265 lb (120 kg). Seat width 9.8 to 18.1 in (250 to 460 mm). Seat depth 9.8 to 18.1 in. Front seat-to-floor 18.9 to 21.7 in. Rear seat-to-floor 14.2 to 21.7 in. Back height 8.0 to 17.0 in. Back angle 20 degrees total (10 forward and 10 rearward from 90). Transit: no.

The Octane Sub4 owner's manual in this family prints 5 years on the frame and cross-braces and 12 months on other parts. Sunrise Canada says warranty coverage may vary from one province to another depending on funding requirements. Ask us which insert ships with a Canadian Octane FX.

Octane FX or another made to measure wheelchair

The Octane FX is the travel chair in RGK's titanium line. The Octane Sub4 is lighter and does not fold. The Tiga FX is the aluminum Q-Lock in the Tiga Series. If you want a current Sunrise rigid that is already on the ADP Type 4 shelf and does not fold, see the Quickie GP.

Funding help for a wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this made-to-measure wheelchair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, confirm the prescribed fit, and show you the Q-Lock fold, the wheel locks, and the quick-release rear wheels before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather talk through the measurement first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; a purchased custom wheelchair is delivered on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Sunrise Medical manufacturer warranty

RGK's everyday owner's manual family prints 5 years on the frame and cross-braces and 12 months on other Sunrise parts for the original purchaser. Tires, tubes, and pads sit outside that term. Sunrise Canada says the term can also vary by province and funding rules. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does The Octane FX Fold Small Enough For A Plane?

The RGK Octane FX uses the Q-Lock fold so the chair can fit in most airplane overhead bins, in Sunrise's words. The same Q-Lock family page says it may not fit every bin. Check with the airline before you fly, and plan a gate-check if the bin is small.

How Light Is The Octane FX?

Sunrise Canada prints the RGK Octane FX at 12.13 lb (5.5 kg). RGK's UK card calls 5.5 kg the transport weight without wheels and cushion on a 400 mm seat. Ask us which figure applies to the order we write.

What Is The Weight Capacity?

The RGK Octane FX is rated at 265 lb (120 kg). Stay at or under that rating.

What Does Made To Measure Mean On The Octane FX?

A made to measure wheelchair in Canada is built after the therapist and Westin write the person's measurements on the RGK order. RGK takes more than 30 measurements and builds that Q-Lock frame. There is no boxed size list.

Who Pushes This Chair?

The person in the Octane FX pushes with the handrims on the large rear wheels. A companion can also push from the back if push handles are on the order. Engage both wheel locks before sitting or standing.

How Should The Seat Width Be Chosen?

The therapist measures seated hip width. Sunrise offers 9.8 to 18.1 in (250 to 460 mm) on the Octane FX, in 5 mm steps. Do not guess a width from a photo.

Who Qualifies For ADP On This Chair?

Ontario residents with a valid health card whose disability needs a mobility device for six months or longer, after an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses them. We cannot promise that a specific person will qualify. A chair bought before those steps is not reimbursed.

How Does The 75 / 25 Split Work?

ADP can fund 75% of the approved price for eligible clients. The person pays the remaining 25% unless they are on Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD, in which case ADP can cover 100% of that approved price. Extra items that are not on the approved list are paid separately.

Can I Try An Octane FX Before We Order?

Come into a Brampton or Toronto store and ask what we can show. A floor chair will not match every prescribed size. We will tell you honestly what is on the floor.

Is The Octane FX A Sports Chair?

No. The RGK Octane FX is an everyday travel rigid. For basketball see the RGK Elite Series. For tennis see the RGK GrandSlam Series.

What Is The Warranty?

RGK's everyday owner's manual family prints 5 years on the frame and cross-braces and 12 months on other parts. Sunrise Canada says the term can vary by province. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What If ADP Declines The Application?

ADP sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. The chair should not have been bought yet. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will read the letter with you. Other routes sit on the funding page.
