Description
The Savaria Bed Battery Backup MC7 TiMOTION and MC9, Field Installed (manufacturer code Q6700) is the emergency backup battery for a Span bed, supplied as a kit to be fitted to a bed that is already in service. Span describes the backup battery as being "for use when there is a power outage, or the bed needs to be operated where there is no power source nearby". Westin Healthcare supplies and installs Span bed parts in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.
This is the field-install code. If you are specifying a new bed rather than retrofitting one, order the factory-installed version instead, Q6701, and Span builds it in before the bed ships.
Which beds this fits
Read this section before you order. Savaria supplies a different battery backup code depending on which control system your bed was built with, and the codes are not interchangeable.
- This part, Q6700: Encore MC9 beds, and Advantage ReadyWide MC7 beds built with the TiMOTION control system. Field installed.
- Q6701: the same beds, factory installed. Ordered with a new bed.
- Q6769 and Q6770: the ReadyWide Plus model built with LINAK controls, field and factory. Not this part.
- Q6682 and Q6680: Advantage T-motion beds, field and factory. Not this part.
Span builds the same bed families with more than one actuator and control system, which is why the split exists. If you do not know which one you have, do not guess. Call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number from the bed label and we will identify it before anything ships. On the Encore side, the beds this fits are the MC9RW, MC9RZ, and MC9RWZ builds sold as the Span Encore package and the 2026 Encore MC9 ReadyWide models. On the Advantage side it is the ReadyWide MC7 range, sold alongside the Span Advantage Q-Series.
If you arrived here for a different manufacturer's bed, the equivalent we stock for a Drive PrimeCare is the Drive P903 battery backup. A Span part will not fit a Drive bed and the reverse is also true.
Savaria bed battery backup specifications
These figures come from the Span owner manuals for the Encore MC9R and the Advantage ReadyWide MC7, which print the same backup battery section.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Battery type | Lead acid |
| Input voltage | 30 VDC (29 VDC minimum, 45 VDC maximum) |
| Output voltage | 24 VDC |
| Duty cycle | 10 percent, maximum 2 minutes on and 18 minutes off |
| Emergency power pack rating | 24 V DC battery, listed as optional in both bed specification tables |
| Charge indicator | LED on the battery shows charge status |
| Installation | Field, on a bed already in service |
| Warranty | 1 year |
Span does not publish a runtime, an amp-hour capacity, or a number of bed movements per charge for this battery, and neither do we. What the manufacturer does state is the duty cycle: the bed and the battery are both rated at 10 percent, meaning a maximum of two minutes of running followed by eighteen minutes off. A backup battery on these beds is designed for repositioning a person and getting the bed to a safe height during an outage, not for running the bed continuously.
One more thing worth knowing. The safe working load on these beds includes the weight of accessories, options, and bedding: 600 lb on the Encore MC9 and 500 lb on the standard ReadyWide MC7. Adding hardware to a bed uses part of that allowance, so keep the total in mind if the bed is already carrying an air surface, a trapeze, and rails.
Charging and keeping the battery healthy
Span is specific about this, and following it is what makes the battery there when you need it.
- The battery charges through the bed. It must be plugged into the bed's control box, and the control box must be connected to AC power.
- Always keep the battery plugged into the control box. It is not a shelf item you connect when a storm is coming.
- Charge it continuously for at least 24 hours before first use, before a long period in storage, and again after a long period in storage or any long stretch with the bed unplugged.
- The LED on the battery shows charge status.
- The battery is replaceable, and Span states it should be replaced only with a battery provided by Span Medical Products Canada. Ask us and we will order the correct one.
Span also warns that using replacement parts or accessories from other manufacturers on a Span bed can invalidate the warranty and damage the bed. A generic lead acid pack is not a substitute here.
Delivery and installation in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and installs Span bed parts across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Because this is the field-install kit, most orders are booked as a technician visit: we come to the bed, fit the kit, and confirm the bed runs on battery before we leave. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page to book a date.
If the kit ships on its own it goes as a small parcel, and the Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods can apply. If it travels with a bed, the bed is oversized and White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed or an accessory needs work, you call the shop that supplied it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or the workplace.
Span manufacturer warranty
Span Medical Products Canada warrants beds and bed accessories against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use from the date of initial delivery. Batteries, hand pendants, foot end controllers, and cables carry one year, and that is the row this part sits in. Bed accessories carry one year. Electrical components, meaning the control box and the actuators, carry five years. The frame and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years. The manufacturer warranty does not cover labour for service. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the manufacturer code?
Q6700. Savaria lists it as the battery backup for MC7 TiMOTION and MC9 beds, field installed. The factory-installed equivalent is Q6701.
How do I know whether my bed is TiMOTION or LINAK?
The label on the bed and the control box identify it. If you cannot find it, call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number and we will identify the bed and the correct part before anything ships. This is the one check worth making, because the codes are not interchangeable.
Can this be added to a bed I already own?
Yes. That is exactly what the field-install code is for. Span offers the built-in backup battery factory installed or field installed, and Q6700 is the field route.
How long will the bed run on the battery?
Span does not publish a runtime, an amp-hour rating, or a number of movements per charge, so we will not quote one. What is published is the duty cycle: 10 percent, a maximum of two minutes on and eighteen minutes off. Treat it as enough to reposition a person and bring the bed to a safe height during an outage.
Do I have to leave it plugged in?
Yes. Span states the battery must be plugged into the bed's control box with the control box connected to AC power in order to charge, and that you should always keep it plugged in. Charge it continuously for at least 24 hours before first use and around any long period of storage.
Can I use a generic battery when it wears out?
No. Span states the backup battery is replaceable but must be replaced only with a battery provided by Span Medical Products Canada, and warns that parts from other manufacturers can invalidate the warranty and damage the bed. Ask us and we will order the right one.
Will it fit a Drive or Invacare bed?
No. This is a Span part for Span beds. For a Drive PrimeCare P903 we stock the Drive P903 battery backup instead.
Do I need a technician?
Most customers book one, and our technicians install these across Brampton and the GTA. Span restricts preventative maintenance on its beds to authorized personnel, so if your facility plans to fit the kit with in-house staff, confirm that with Savaria first and we can arrange it.
What is the warranty?
One year. Batteries sit in Span's one-year row along with hand pendants, foot end controllers, and cables, not in the five-year electrical components row. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty.
