Description
The Span America Advantage Bed Battery Backup Kit QD1000 T-Motion, Field Installed (manufacturer code Q6682) is Span's emergency backup battery option for the Advantage QD1000 bed built on T-motion controls. The Advantage owner manual describes it as an optional internal or external battery backup, for use when there is a power outage or when the bed needs to be operated where there is no power source nearby. Westin Healthcare specifies, supplies and services Span beds in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.
This is the field code. It is the retrofit kit, fitted by a technician to an Advantage that is already in a resident's room, so a bed that was ordered without a battery does not have to be replaced to get one. If the bed has not been built yet, order the factory version instead, Q6680, because it arrives fitted and tested with the bed.
Which beds this fits
Read this before you order. Savaria supplies a different battery backup code for each bed platform and control system, and they are not interchangeable. This page is Q6682.
| Bed platform and control system | Field install | Factory install |
|---|---|---|
| Span Encore MC9 and Advantage ReadyWide MC7 Standard, TiMOTION controls | Q6700 | Q6701 |
| Span Advantage ReadyWide Plus MC7WP, LINAK controls | Q6769 | Q6770 |
| Span Advantage QD1000, T-motion controls | Q6682 | Q6680 |
The bed and control box labels identify the platform and the control system. If you cannot find them, call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number from the bed label and we will identify it before anything is ordered. One quick tell in the room: the Advantage QD1000 has no SmartStop. If the bed pauses on the way down and warns you before it reaches its lowest position, you are looking at a ReadyWide or an Encore, and those take different battery codes. On our own shelf the platforms are the Span Advantage Q-Series, the Span Encore and the Span Rexx.
Why a bed needs a backup battery
A full electric low bed does everything through its actuators. In a power cut, a bed without a battery is frozen at whatever height and deck angle it happened to be at. That is a problem in three ordinary situations, and none of them is rare in Ontario.
- A resident is in a raised or Comfort Chair position when the power goes and needs to be brought flat and low
- A caregiver needs the bed at working height to reposition someone safely, rather than bending over a bed stuck at 8 inches
- The bed has to be moved to another room and there is no outlet on the way
Span's own wording is the plainest version of it: the backup battery "is for use when there is a power outage, or the bed needs to be operated where there is no power source nearby". The Advantage keeps its full travel of 7-7/8 inches to 30 inches, its 0 to 70 degree back deck and its 0 to 30 degree knee deck, and those functions are what the battery keeps available.
Living with the battery
It is a lead acid pack that charges through the bed's own control box. Span is specific that the battery should always stay plugged into the control box, and that the control box has to be connected to AC power for charging to happen. An LED on the battery shows the charge status.
Span asks for a full continuous charge of at least 24 hours in three situations: the first time it is used, before a long period in storage or unplugged, and after that period. Putting a bed away for the summer with the battery flat is the one habit that shortens a pack's life, and it is the one worth training out.
The pack is replaceable, and Span states plainly that it must be replaced only with a battery provided by Span Medical Products Canada. Our service and repairs department orders the right pack and fits it.

Span does not publish the capacity in amp hours, the number of cycles the bed will run on one charge, the pack weight or its physical dimensions, and we will not invent them. If your specification needs a runtime figure, call (905) 451-7743 and we will get the current answer from Savaria in writing before the order goes out.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin Healthcare's own team delivers and sets up Span beds across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring the bed in, assemble it, and show you the hand pendant and the foot end controller before we leave. We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page to book a date.
Hospital beds and bed hardware are oversized, so the Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply to them. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. If the order is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed or an accessory needs work, you call the shop that supplied it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or the workplace.
Span America manufacturer warranty
Span Medical Products Canada warrants beds and accessories against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use from the date of initial delivery. Batteries, hand pendants, foot end controllers and cables carry one year, bed accessories carry one year, and parts subject to wear carry one year. Electrical components, which Span defines as the control box and the actuators, carry five years. The frame and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years. Labour for service is not covered by the manufacturer warranty, and warranty claims run through a Span RMA number. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the manufacturer code?
Q6682. The 2026 Savaria range prints it as "Battery backup kit T-motion ADVANTAGE, FIELD INSTALL". Quote the code and the bed platform together and the order desk cannot pick the wrong one.
Should I order factory or field?
Factory if the bed has not been built yet, because it arrives fitted, wired and tested with the bed. Field if the bed is already in a room, because a technician fits the kit there. Savaria offers the backup battery both ways on this platform: Q6680 for factory and Q6682 for field.
Will this fit any Span bed?
No. This code is for the Advantage QD1000 built on T-motion controls. A Span Encore MC9 or an Advantage ReadyWide MC7 Standard on TiMOTION controls takes Q6701 or Q6700, and a ReadyWide Plus MC7WP on LINAK controls takes Q6770 or Q6769. The table above lists them all.
How long will the bed run on the battery?
Span does not publish a runtime or a capacity figure for the pack, so we do not quote one. What Span does publish is the duty cycle, which is the same as the bed's: 10 percent, a maximum of 2 minutes on and 18 minutes off. A bed motor is not meant to run continuously on mains power either. If your specification needs a runtime number, ask us and we will get it from Savaria in writing.
Does the battery need its own outlet?
No. It charges through the bed's control box while the control box is plugged into the wall. Span asks that the battery stay plugged into the control box at all times.
How do I keep the battery healthy?
Leave it plugged into the control box and leave the bed plugged in. Span asks for a continuous charge of at least 24 hours the first time it is used, before a long period of storage or with the bed unplugged, and again after that period. The LED on the battery shows charge status.
Can I fit any replacement battery?
No. Span states the backup battery must be replaced only with a battery provided by Span Medical Products Canada. Our service and repairs department orders the right pack and fits it.
What is the warranty?
One year. Span puts batteries, hand pendants, foot end controllers and cables in its one year row rather than in the five year electrical components row, which covers the control box and the actuators. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty. We handle the claim with you.
