Description

The Drive PrimeCare P903 is Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare's expandable low long-term-care hospital bed, sold as the Prime Care Bed Model P903. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care settings in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The hand control moves the head section, the foot section, and the height of the bed.

The sleep deck sits between 7 inches and 30 inches. Push-button width goes from 36 inches to 39 inches to 42 inches. Length sets at 80 inches, 84 inches, or 88 inches. Drive's current sheet lists a 600 lb safe working load. The 10-function backlit pendant includes Auto Contour, Cardiac Comfort Chair, and an under-bed night light. Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg need the separate staff control.

Who this bed is for

This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home or in long-term care and needs more than a standard 36 by 80 inch homecare frame. The 7 inch low deck helps with transfers and can feel safer for someone who is at risk of rolling or falling from a higher mattress. The same hand control still raises the bed to 30 inches so a caregiver can change linen or help the person sit up without working at floor height.

Families and facilities usually call us when someone needs a wider or longer sleep surface that can change as the person changes, when a regular homecare bed is not low enough, or when a therapist has asked for an LTC-grade frame with a 600 lb safe working load. If the room is smaller and 550 lbs is enough, start with the Drive PrimeCare P703. If the person needs a 39 to 48 inch deck and a 750 lb capacity, see the Drive Prime Plus P750. If you want a simpler full-electric homecare package, start with the Drive Delta 1000.

  • Home care, where the bed has to work in a bedroom and sit low for transfers
  • Long-term care or nursing-home use when one expandable frame has to fit more than one resident size
  • Anyone who needs electric head, foot, and height from one hand control, plus Auto Contour and Cardiac Comfort Chair

What you get

The Drive PrimeCare P903 is a full-electric expandable low bed. Four DC motors move the head, the foot, and the overall height. Synchronized hi/lo keeps the deck level while the bed rises and lowers. The 10-function backlit hand pendant is for the person in the bed and for the caregiver.

This listing is the P903 frame. Westin includes the 42 inch width expansion. Length locks at 80 inches, 84 inches, or 88 inches with the mattress retainers. Head and foot boards, rails, a mattress, the embedded staff control, and the battery backup are separate. Ask us which boards and which surface you need before we book delivery.

  • 10-function backlit hand pendant with Auto Contour, Cardiac Comfort Chair, and under-bed night light
  • Push-button width 36 inches, 39 inches, or 42 inches
  • Sleep length 80 inches, 84 inches, or 88 inches
  • Welded steel frame and slat support deck
  • Eight 3 inch heavy-duty dual-footprint casters that roll at any height, plus steer control
  • Colour-coded dual-pedal floor lock
  • Adjustable wall bumper
  • Adjustable mattress retainers, extended heel lift, and IV pole holders

There is no battery backup on the frame by itself. Drive's owner manual says that without the optional backup the bed will not operate when it is unplugged. Add the Drive Battery Backup P903 Beds kit if you need the bed to move during an outage.

Drive PrimeCare P903 specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU P903, the Drive Prime Care Bed Model P903. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current shop page and 2025 long-term-care brochure list a height of 7 inches to 30 inches, push-button width of 36 inches to 39 inches to 42 inches, sleep length of 80 inches, 84 inches, and 88 inches, and a 600 lb weight capacity.

Drive's owner manual for this SKU prints a 600 lb safe working load that includes the person, the mattress, the boards, the rails, and anything else on the bed, and a 395 lb maximum user weight. Frame weight without head or foot boards or accessories is 222 lbs. Overall length is 87 inches, 91 inches, or 95 inches without the wall bumper, and 89 inches, 93 inches, or 97 inches with the bumper on. Overall width is 36 inches before expansion and 39 inches or 42 inches with the expansion out. Rotating assist bars or rails add 3 inches to each side.

Head section travel is 0 to 68 degrees. Thigh section travel is 0 to 30 degrees. Foot section travel is 0 to 10 degrees. The mattress should be 5.5 inches to 7 inches thick and must match the width and length you set. The bed runs on a regular household outlet (100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz).

Warranty for the original purchaser, printed on Drive's current P903 sheet and 2025 brochure, is 15 years on the frame, limited lifetime on welds, and 5 years on electronics.

Staff control, battery backup, rails, and other options

This page is the P903 frame with the 42 inch width expansion included. There is no rail or mattress selector on this listing. The official Drive options that Westin already sells as separate products are named below. Call (905) 451-7743 if you need boards, rails, or a surface sized to the width and length you set.

Drive Embedded Staff Control for P903 Bed

Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg are not on the standard pendant. They need the embedded staff control. Westin sells that control as the Drive Embedded Staff Control for P903 Bed (SKU P903SC05). Drive's current sheet lists P903SC05 for Ti-Motion motors on beds after serial 11L1906. Ask us to match the control to the serial on the frame we ship.

Drive Battery Backup P903 Beds

The frame does not include a backup battery. Westin sells the backup as Drive Battery Backup P903 Beds (SKU P903-BBK). Drive's current Timotion kit is P903-T-BBK, for serial numbers greater than 11L1906. Add it if you need the bed to keep moving when the power is out.

Rails, boards, and mattress

Drive's matching LTC rails are the rotating assist bar PLTCAB, the rotating assist rail PLTCAR, and the deluxe rotating rail PLTCDR. Westin stocks those as separate catalog items. Rails are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint and they are not a handle for getting in or out of bed.

Head and foot boards are a Drive option in Brownlee Woods or Mill Creek, in Oak, Cherry, or Figured Mahogany, at 35 inches or 42 inches. Use 42 inch boards if the deck will live at 42 inches. The sleep surface needs a hospital-bed mattress in 36, 39, or 42 inches by 80, 84, or 88 inches, 5.5 to 7 inches thick. If you are not sure which surface you need, call (905) 451-7743. Your therapist can tell us if the person needs a foam surface or an alternating-pressure system.

Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.

Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?

Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.

Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Drive manufacturer warranty

Drive's warranty for the original purchaser of this bed is 15 years on the frame, limited lifetime on welds, and 5 years on electronics. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does OHIP cover hospital beds?

No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.

Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.

What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?

The Drive PrimeCare P903 is full electric. Four DC motors adjust the head, the foot, and the height of the bed from the hand control. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank.

How is the P903 different from the PrimeCare P703 and the Prime Plus P750?

The P903 is Drive's expandable low LTC bed: 7 to 30 inches high, 36 to 42 inches wide, 80 to 88 inches long, 600 lb safe working load. The PrimeCare P703 is the smaller sibling (550 lbs, 76 to 84 inches long). The Prime Plus P750 is the step-up bariatric frame (750 lbs, 39 to 48 inches wide). The Drive Delta 1000 is a simpler homecare package if you do not need this LTC frame.

What mattress fits the Drive PrimeCare P903?

Match the mattress to the width and length you set: 36, 39, or 42 inches wide and 80, 84, or 88 inches long, 5.5 to 7 inches thick. This listing does not include a mattress. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure surface.

Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?

Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.

How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.

What is included with this Drive PrimeCare P903?

You get the Drive PrimeCare P903 full-electric expandable frame with the 42 inch width expansion included, the hand control, casters, floor lock, wall bumper, mattress retainers, heel lift, and IV pole holders. Head and foot boards, rails, a mattress, the embedded staff control, and the battery backup are separate products.

What is the weight capacity of the Drive PrimeCare P903?

Drive's current sheet lists a 600 lb weight capacity. Drive's owner manual prints that 600 lbs as the safe working load for the person plus the mattress, boards, rails, and anything else on the bed, and lists a 395 lb maximum user weight. If the person is near that user limit, or you need a 48 inch deck, ask us about the Prime Plus P750 instead of stretching this frame.

What happens if the power goes out?

The P903 frame does not include a backup battery. Without the optional backup the bed stays in the last position and will not move until it is plugged in again. Add the Drive Battery Backup P903 Beds kit if you need the bed to keep working during an outage. This is not the 9V pendant backup used on Drive's Delta homecare beds.

What is the warranty on the Drive PrimeCare P903?

For the original purchaser, Drive covers the frame for 15 years, welds for a limited lifetime, and electronics for 5 years. Those terms are printed on Drive's current P903 sheet and 2025 brochure. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.

Does this bed do Trendelenburg, and is the 42 inch width included?

Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg need the Drive Embedded Staff Control for P903 Bed. They are not on the standard pendant. The 42 inch push-button width expansion is included on the P903 Westin sells. You do not need a separate width kit for 42 inches on this listing.
