Description
The Drive PrimeCare P703 is Drive Medical's full-electric long-term care hospital bed, sold as the Prime Care Bed Model P703. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for long-term care rooms and for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The 8-function hand pendant moves the head section, the thigh and foot section, Auto Contour, and the height of the bed.
Drive's current sheet for SKU P703 lists a deck height of 7 inches to 30 inches, a 550 lb weight capacity, and a 500 lb resident weight. Sleep length adjusts on the frame to 76, 80, or 84 inches. The standard sleep width is 36 inches. Four DC motors keep the frame level as the bed rises and lowers.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home or in a care room and wants a long-term care frame that can sit as low as 7 inches, then rise to 30 inches so a caregiver is not working at floor height. Families and care homes usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for a low transfer height with a higher working height for linen changes.
If you want a simpler PrimeCare sibling, with a 7.8 inch low height and a 450 lb capacity, see the Drive PrimeCare P503. If you need a higher capacity and push-button width, see the Drive PrimeCare P903. If you want a lighter homecare package instead of this slat-deck long-term care frame, start with the Drive 15005LP.
- Long-term care and assisted living, where a 7 inch to 30 inch slat-deck frame is the usual ask
- Home care when a therapist has named this PrimeCare grade of bed
- Anyone who needs electric head, foot, height, and Auto Contour from one hand pendant
What you get
The Drive PrimeCare P703 is a full-electric long-term care bed. Four DC motors move the head, the thigh and foot, and the overall height. An 8-function hand pendant is standard. Drive's current sheet says the bed does not include wood bed ends. Rails and a mattress are also sold separately.
The frame uses a slat sleep deck, a two-way red and green floor lock, eight 3 inch casters that roll at any height, a fixed adjustable wall bumper, IV pole holders, and an extended heel lift. Drive prints a synchronized hi/lo system that keeps the bed level, with four sealed bearings in a G track.
- 8-function hand pendant for head, thigh and foot, Auto Contour, and height
- Four DC motors with synchronized hi/lo
- Welded steel frame and slat sleep deck
- Integrated sleep length of 76, 80, or 84 inches
- Two-way colour-coded floor lock
- Eight 3 inch heavy-duty casters that roll at any height
- Fixed adjustable wall bumper
- IV pole holders and extended heel lift
- Adjustable mattress retainers so a 76, 80, or 84 inch mattress stays on the deck
There is no battery backup on the standard P703. Drive's owner manual says the bed will not operate when it is unplugged unless the optional P703-BBK backup is fitted. That kit is for emergency use only. Ask us if you need backup power with the order.
Drive PrimeCare P703 specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU P703, the Drive Prime Care Bed Model P703. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet for this SKU lists a deck height of 7 inches to 30 inches, a 550 lb weight capacity, a 500 lb resident weight, and a 205 lb frame weight without the battery.
The standard sleep surface is 36 inches wide. Length on the frame is 76, 80, or 84 inches. Drive's 2017 owner manual prints mattress thickness as 5.5 inches to 7 inches, head travel of 0 to 65 degrees, thigh travel of 0 to 32 degrees, and foot travel of 0 to 11 degrees. That same manual prints an older capacity pair of 500 lb safe working load and 475 lb user weight, and a frame weight of 215.8 lbs without headboards, footboards, or accessories. Copy uses Drive's current 550 / 500 and 205 lb sheet.
Warranty on Drive's current P703 sheet is a lifetime on welds, 15 years on the frame, and 5 years on electrical.
P703 accessories sold with this bed
This listing is the P703 frame. There are no rail or mattress selectors on the order form. Westin already sells three Drive P703 kits as separate products. Call (905) 451-7743 before you order if you need rails, a surface, wood ends, or backup power.
Drive Embedded Staff Control for P703 Bed
Drive part P703SC04 is the staff control panel that sits in the footboard. Drive's owner manual describes a 5-function staff pad: head, thigh and foot, Auto Contour, height, and Trendelenburg / reverse Trendelenburg. Those last two positions are staff-only and should be used with a clinician's direction. The staff control is not required for everyday head, foot, height, or Auto Contour. Those stay on the hand pendant.
Drive P703 Width Extension 39-42"
The standard P703 is 36 inches wide. Drive part P703WE is the optional width kit that takes the sleep surface to 39 inches or 42 inches. If you plan to set the bed at 42 inches, order 42 inch bed ends with the kit. Ask us about the Drive P703 Width Extension 39-42" when we book the order.
Drive P703 Length Extension 88"
Sleep length of 76, 80, or 84 inches is built into the frame. Drive part P703LE is the separate 88 inch length kit. Ask us about the Drive P703 Length Extension 88" if the person needs that extra length.
Rails, mattress, and bed ends
Drive lists three rail families for this frame: deluxe rotating rails (PLTCDR), rotating assist rails (PLTCAR), and rotating assist bars (PLTCAB). Our spec sheet names Deluxe Rotating Rails and Standard Rotating Rails. Rails are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint. Drive's owner manual says to use Drive rails and a mattress that fit this frame, and to keep the mattress centred so the person cannot slip into a gap.
The sleep surface takes a hospital-bed mattress in 36 by 76, 36 by 80, or 36 by 84. Wider surfaces belong with the width kit. If you are not sure which surface you need, call (905) 451-7743. Your therapist can tell us if the person needs a foam surface or an alternating-pressure system.
Wood bed ends are not in the box. Drive offers several end styles and wood-grain colours. Tell us the finish and whether you need 35 inch or 42 inch ends when we book delivery.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?
Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.
Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Drive manufacturer warranty
Drive's current P703 sheet for the original purchaser lists a lifetime on welds, 15 years on the frame, and 5 years on electrical. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does OHIP cover hospital beds?
No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.
Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?
The Drive PrimeCare P703 is full electric. The hand pendant adjusts the head, the thigh and foot, Auto Contour, and the height of the bed. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank.
How is the P703 different from the PrimeCare P503 and the P903?
The P703 is the mid PrimeCare long-term care frame: 7 inches to 30 inches, 550 lb / 500 lb resident, and integrated 76, 80, and 84 inch length. The Drive PrimeCare P503 is the simpler sibling (7.8 inch low height, 450 lb), and the Drive PrimeCare P903 is the 600 lb step-up with push-button width. If you want a lighter homecare package, see the Drive 15005LP.
What mattress fits the Drive PrimeCare P703?
The standard sleep surface is 36 inches wide by 76, 80, or 84 inches long, so you want a hospital-bed mattress in that size. Drive's owner manual prints a mattress thickness of 5.5 inches to 7 inches; wider 39 or 42 inch surfaces belong with the Drive P703 Width Extension 39-42". Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure surface.
Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?
Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.
How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.
What is included with this PrimeCare P703?
You get the Drive PrimeCare P703 full-electric frame with the 8-function hand pendant, floor lock, casters, wall bumper, and IV pole holders. Wood bed ends, rails, and a mattress are not included. Ask us about the Drive Embedded Staff Control for P703 Bed, the Drive P703 Width Extension 39-42", and the Drive P703 Length Extension 88" if you need those kits.
What is the weight capacity of the PrimeCare P703?
Drive's current sheet lists a 550 lb weight capacity and a 500 lb resident weight for SKU P703. If the person is near that limit, or you need a wider sleep deck without a bolt-on kit, ask us about the PrimeCare P903 or the Prime Plus P750 instead of stretching this frame.
What happens if the power goes out?
The standard P703 has no battery backup, so unless the optional P703-BBK kit is fitted the bed stays where it is until power returns. Drive's owner manual says that backup is for emergency use only. Ask us if you want backup power with the order.
What is the warranty on the Drive PrimeCare P703?
For the original purchaser, Drive's current P703 sheet lists a lifetime on welds, 15 years on the frame, and 5 years on electrical. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work. Details are on our service and repairs page.
How low does the P703 go, and can it be made wider or longer?
Drive lists a deck height of 7 inches to 30 inches, with 76, 80, or 84 inch length built into the frame. The Drive P703 Width Extension 39-42" takes width from 36 inches to 39 or 42 inches, and the Drive P703 Length Extension 88" is the separate 88 inch kit. The 7 inch deck can feel safer than a higher mattress for someone at risk of rolling; it does not replace a therapist or a fall plan.
