Description
The Span America Floor Lift AC Charger is the plug-in charger for a Span America floor lift, manufacturer code P11619. It plugs into the DC input on the control unit and charges the battery where it sits, which is how these lifts are charged as standard: Span America ships the DC charger with the lift and sells the charging cradle as an option. Westin Healthcare stocks lift parts in Brampton and ships them across the Greater Toronto Area.
It is the part to buy when a lift stops taking a charge, and the part not to buy when a lift takes a charge and then loses it quickly. Those are different faults.
Is it the charger, or is it the battery?
These two failures feel identical from the corridor, and they are not the same part. The distinction is worth two minutes before you order.
- The lift will not charge at all. No charging indication, no amber LED, nothing changes overnight. Suspect the charger, or the cord, or the outlet.
- The lift charges, then goes flat quickly. It reaches a full indication and then warns after a handful of transfers. That is a pack that has lost its capacity. Span America's published figure for a healthy system is 25 full cycles per charge under full load.
- The lift will not run on a pack you know is good. Suspect the control box or the pendant, neither of which we list as a stock line, though we can order both.
- The lift keeps running out mid-shift. Nothing is broken. You need a second pack and a charging cradle so one is always charged.
Call (905) 451-7743 and describe what the machine is actually doing. We would rather send the right part once.
How charging works on these lifts
Span America gives every lift in this range the same two routes to a charged battery, and both are documented in the owner's manuals under the heading "Charging: DC Charger or Charging Cradle".
- The DC charger, this part, included with the lift. It plugs into the charger port on the control unit and charges the pack in place. The LED indicator shows amber while charging and green when charging is completed. This suits a single lift that lives in one room and can be plugged in overnight.
- The charging cradle, optional. It charges a pack that has been taken off the lift, with a green LED showing power connected. This suits a facility running a spare pack so a lift is never out of service waiting for a charge.
Most owners keep the charger and add a cradle later. Neither replaces the other.
Using it safely
Span America publishes three warnings about the charger, and all three are about the cord rather than the electronics:
- The cord is long enough to be a strangulation hazard if used improperly. That is the manufacturer's own wording, and it matters most in a room where somebody may be alone with the lift.
- Keep the cord out of walkways, where it is a trip hazard. In a room where a lift is used, the walkway is exactly where somebody is being transferred.
- Have the charger port on the controller facing away from the wall, so the cord can be disconnected easily rather than tugged.
Span America also asks for the battery pack and the charger to be checked periodically as part of routine maintenance, and for the pack to be removed from the controller before cleaning. Cleaning is pH-neutral detergent on a damp cloth only, never solvents or abrasives.

The input and output figures above belong to the lift's control unit, which is what Span America publishes: input 220-240 VAC 50 Hz or 110-120 VAC 60 Hz, output 24 VDC, to a 24 VDC 5 Ah battery pack. No standalone datasheet exists for code P11619, so no charger output current, charge time, plug type, cord length, mass or dimensions is printed here, because none is published.
If you need the plug type or the cord length confirmed before ordering, for example when a lift is going into a room with a particular outlet arrangement, ask us and we will get it from Savaria in writing.
Which lifts this fits
P11619 is named on the F400 service parts drawing and labelled on the F500S control unit. The rest of the range shares the same control unit and the same charging architecture.

How to be certain. Call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number off your lift, or send a photograph of the product label, and we will confirm the charger with Savaria before anything ships. It does not fit a Beka Nora, a Beka Carlo, a Handicare Eva, a Carina, an FGA-700 or a MiniLift, which run Linak control boxes and their own chargers.

Span America warranty and inspection
Span-America publishes a limited warranty on all patient lifts, slings and accessories to be free of defects in workmanship and product performance, extending to the original purchaser and non-transferable. Unusually for this catalogue, it prints the terms by component:
| Warranty period | Product or component |
|---|---|
| Three years | Patient lift frame or spreader bar |
| Two years | Actuator, control box, pendant, charger, weigh scale, stand aids, or castors excluding normal tread wear |
| One year | Battery or hydraulic pump |
| Six months | Reusable fabric slings |
A charger sits on the two-year row, alongside the actuator, control box, pendant and weigh scale, while the battery it charges sits on the one-year row. All warranty claims go through the authorized dealer who sold the product, with proof of sale and the serial number where applicable, and a return authorization from Span-America is required before anything is sent back. Span-America excludes abuse, misuse, accidental or malicious damage, improper installation, use with parts or accessories whose quality or specifications are incompatible with the product, neglect, failure to maintain and service the product as specified in the owner's manual, a removed or defaced serial number, and normal wear and tear. Ask us for the terms current at the date of your order and we will handle a claim with you.
Span-America asks the operator to inspect the lift before each use, and asks for a thorough monthly inspection by somebody qualified to recognise wear, looseness of bolts and worn parts, with worn parts replaced immediately. It gives the lift an expected lifetime of 10 years or 20,000 cycles and the electrical components an expected lifetime of 3 years. Clean with pH-neutral detergents only, and remove the battery from the controller first. We can quote the annual service with the part.
Frequently asked questions
My lift will not charge. Is this the part?
Probably, if nothing at all happens when it is plugged in: no charging indication and no change overnight. Check the outlet and the cord first, then the charger. If the lift charges fully and then goes flat after a few transfers, that is the battery pack, not the charger.
Will it fit my lift?
It is named on the Span America F400 service parts drawing and labelled on the F500S control unit, and the rest of the range shares the same control unit and charging architecture. Call (905) 451-7743 with your model and serial number and we will confirm with Savaria before anything ships. It does not fit a Beka or Handicare lift.
Does the charger come with the lift?
Yes. Span America marks the DC charger as included and the charging cradle as optional. This listing is for a replacement, or a second charger for a lift that moves between two locations.
What is the difference between the charger and the cradle?
The charger plugs into the control unit and charges the pack while it is on the lift. The cradle charges a pack that has been taken off the lift. A facility running a spare pack needs both; a single lift at home usually needs only the charger.
How long does a charge take?
Span America does not publish a charge time for these lifts. What it does publish is 25 full cycles per charge under full load, which is about how much work a full pack does rather than how long it takes to fill. If charge time matters for your shift pattern, ask us and we will get it from Savaria.
How do I know it is charging, and when it is done?
The LED indicator on the charger shows amber while charging and green when charging is completed. That second colour is the useful one, because it is the only published way to tell a finished charge from a stalled one. On the cradle the LED means something different: green is power connected and blank is power disconnected. The lift's own LCD shows battery status during operation and a separate set of charging symbols while it is plugged in.
Is there anything to be careful about with the cord?
Yes, and Span America says so plainly. The cord is long enough to be a strangulation hazard if used improperly, and it is a trip hazard in a walkway. Keep it out of the path, and set the lift so the charger port faces away from the wall and can be unplugged easily rather than pulled.
What is the warranty?
Span America's warranty table gives two years on a charger, alongside the actuator, control box, pendant, weigh scale, stand aids and castors. A battery gets one year and the frame or spreader bar gets three. Ask us for the terms current at the date of your order.
Can I use a generic 24 V charger instead?
We would not recommend it, and Span America's warranty specifically excludes claims where the product has been used with parts, components or accessories whose quality or specifications are incompatible with the product. A charger is the part with its hands on the battery every night.
