Description
The Drive bariatric shower commode is Drive Medical's NRS185008 attendant chair for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Drive rates the rust-resistant aluminum frame at 500 lb (227 kg). Four 5 inch (13 cm) locking casters carry it.
This is the wide attendant chair in Drive's aluminum rehab line, not the 275 lb NRS185007 and not a 24 inch self-propel chair. Overall width on Drive's sheet is 26 inches (66 cm).
Who this bariatric shower commode is for
This chair is for a person who needs Drive's 500 lb (227 kg) rating and a 22 inch (56 cm) wide padded seat a caregiver can roll over a standard toilet, into a shower, or to the bedside bucket. Families here usually call when the 18 inch NRS185007 is too narrow.
Drive prints padded flip-back armrests and a seat opening for perineal access. That is Drive's sentence, not a diagnosis. Westin does not give medical advice.
- Attendant: 5 inch (13 cm) locking casters, 26 inch (66 cm) overall width
- 500 lb (227 kg) rust-resistant aluminum
- Seat to floor 20.5-22.4 in (52-57 cm)
Wheels and who pushes it
Drive prints 5 inch locking casters. The sheet photo and the feature line are small casters at the corners. There is no 24 inch handrim on NRS185008. A caregiver pushes the chair. Lock the casters before a transfer.
The 24 inch self-propel SKU in this aluminum rehab idea is Drive NRS185006 at 275 lb, which Westin does not list as a chair. Do not order NRS185008 if you were named self-propel 24 inch wheels.
Over the toilet and in the shower
Drive prints that NRS185008 can be positioned over a standard toilet, used as a portable self-contained commode, or used as a shower chair. Drive does not print a clearance height or an inside width. Measure the bowl against the 26 inch (66 cm) chair in a Brampton or Toronto store.
Drive prints swing-away detachable footrests with height and angle adjustments, an easy-to-empty commode bucket, and tool-free assembly. The spare 5 inch caster-and-leg Drive lists for this chair is the NRS185006-08 Caster with Leg.
Drive Bariatric Aluminum Rehab Shower Commode Chair specifications
These figures are from Drive's current NRS185008 sheet. The specification tab holds the stored values. Use the sheet when they fight. Stored caster size 4 inch is wrong. Drive does not print a unit weight on this sheet.
Weight capacity 500 lb (227 kg). Spec table seat 22 in W by 17.1 in (H) (56 cm by 43 cm). Feature line also prints padded seat 22 x 17. Seat to floor 20.5-22.4 in (52-57 cm). Overall width 26 in (66 cm). Four 5 in (13 cm) locking casters. Rust-resistant aluminum. Limited Lifetime warranty. Drive does not print over-toilet clearance numbers.
275 lb attendant or 500 lb bariatric
Stay on NRS185008 if you need Drive's 500 lb (227 kg) rating and the 22 inch seat. Step down to the Drive NRS185007 for the 18 inch, 275 lb attendant chair. The light 3 inch commode is the Drive 11114KD-1 at 300 lb (136 kg) with a narrower vinyl seat.
A tilt bariatric commode is a different product. See the Raz AP if a therapist named a configurable tilt chair.
Funding help for bathroom safety equipment in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund bathroom safety equipment, so plan around other routes. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation.
