Description
The Lunar Heavy Duty Mid Support backrest is Future Mobility's 500 lb (227 kg) mid-height foam wheelchair back support for aggressive lateral support under high load. Westin Healthcare fits it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area after a seating check on the chair.
This is the Lunar HD mid-back height (16 to 18 in) from 22 in wide. It is not the HD full height, and it is not the 250 lb Lunar Basic Mid.
Who this back support is for
The Lunar Heavy Duty Mid Support backrest is for a person at or under 500 lb (227 kg) whose seating therapist wants a ribbed extra-large Lunar shell in a mid height, with basic or ultra laterals.
A seating therapist should confirm the height and the lateral style. Westin does not give clinical positioning advice. If you have questions about posture or transfers, ask the therapist who assessed you, or call us and we will book that conversation.
Hardware, laterals, and fit
The shell is aluminum with reinforcement ribs. Foam is replaceable. Pins take up to a 2 in (5 cm) seat-width difference. Height, depth, and recline angle adjust on the hardware. Lower latch levers release the back. Hardware fits 3/4 in, 7/8 in, and 1 in canes.
Use Model Choice for Basic Lateral or Ultra Lateral. Lunar HD does not offer a no-lateral factory style.
- Mid-back heights 16 and 18 in (41 and 46 cm)
- Widths 22 to 32 in (56 to 81 cm)
- Cover colours: black, navy blue, burgundy, royal blue, dark green
Lunar Heavy Duty Mid Support specifications
These figures are from Future Mobility's July 2025 Lunar Heavy Duty brochure and the live Canada card. The specification tab holds the stored values. Use 8.55 lb, not the older 9 lb stored line.
Product weight 8.55 lb (3.88 kg) at 22 in W x 18 in H Basic. User weight 500 lb (227 kg). Warranty 3 years limited on the back, 90 days on the cover, and 1 year on hardware.
Sizes, colours, and laterals
Use Choose Cushion Size for the width by height pair. Use Colors for the cover. Use Model Choice for Basic or Ultra laterals. The stored Width and Back Height values already describe this HD mid band (22-32 in by 16-18 in).
HD Mid, HD Full, or Lunar Basic Mid
Stay here for the 500 lb mid-height shell. The Lunar Heavy Duty Full Support is the 20 to 24 in HD height. The Lunar Basic Mid Support is the 250 lb mid shell through 20 in wide.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and fits this back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, mount it on the wheelchair canes, and show you the quick-release latches before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a wheelchair back support first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased seating is delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the back support is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the back support needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Future Mobility manufacturer warranty
Future Mobility prints 3 years limited on the Lunar Heavy Duty back, 90 days on the cover, and 1 year on the hardware, for the original purchaser. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What Size Wheelchair Backrest Do I Need?
A wheelchair back support is ordered by seat width and back height, not by clothing size. Measure the wheelchair seat width and how high the shell should sit on the back canes, then use Choose Cushion Size for the matching width by height. A seating therapist should confirm the size before you order.
What Is A Wheelchair Back Support?
A wheelchair back support mounts to the rear canes and holds the trunk. The Lunar Heavy Duty Mid Support backrest is a ribbed aluminum shell with foam and basic or ultra laterals.
Does ADP Cover Wheelchair Cushions?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment, when the seating is required with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the person and the device. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
