Description

The Ki Mobility Catalyst 5Vx is a Category 3 folding wheelchair. Westin Healthcare configures it to an occupational therapist or physiotherapist prescription and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program lists the Catalyst 5Vx as an Adult Lightweight Performance manual wheelchair under device code WMA3KI015. It is not the Catalyst 5 or 5ti (those use WMA3KI010). It is not an off-the-shelf chair that ships the same day you click buy.

Ki builds the 5Vx from 7000 series aluminum with a vertical axle plate. The current Ki card lists a 24 lb standard chair, a 13.9 lb transport weight with wheels and footrests off, and a 300 lb standard rating (350 lb heavy duty). Seat width runs 14 to 22 inches and seat depth 14 to 20 inches. Centre of gravity adjusts 2 inches across seven axle positions. An ADP-registered therapist assessment comes first. For eligible clients, ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who needs a Category 3 folding frame, who fits Ki's 300 lb standard rating (or the 350 lb heavy-duty option), and who will use the chair for six months or longer. Therapists pick the 5Vx when they want Ki's vertical axle plate and the 14 to 22 inch width range on a folding frame.

If the therapist wants the lighter Catalyst 5 / 5ti option mix, that is a different ADP code (WMA3KI010) and is not the 5Vx. If they want a Sunrise folding frame, see the Quickie QXi or the Quickie 2. If they want Future Mobility, see the Galaxy Lite.

  • A folding Category 3 chair built to prescription
  • Ki's 5Vx frame, 24 lb standard weight, 300 lb rating
  • Someone who can self-propel, or who may be pushed

Design and build

The 5Vx is a folding 7000 series aluminum frame with dual interlocking cross-braces. The redesigned vertical axle plate gives 2 inches of centre-of-gravity travel in half-inch steps and 5 inches of rear seat-height travel over seven positions. Camber is 0 to 4 degrees. Quick-release rear axles come off for the car. Swing-in anti-tips tuck under the frame when they are not needed.

Front ends are swing-away (60, 70, 80, or 90 degree hangers) or 70 or 80 degree fixed. Ki prints a lifetime warranty on those hangers. Mag, spoke, and Maxx Mag wheels are on the order form. A WC-19 transit system can sit on the rear frame. The 5Vx card does not list a shock-absorbing suspension. Do not read leftover "suspension" language as a 5Vx feature.

  • Folding 7000 series aluminum frame
  • Vertical axle plate, seven positions, 2 inch centre-of-gravity range
  • Quick-release rear axles and swing-in anti-tips
  • Swing-away or fixed front ends
  • Optional transit wheels and WC-19 transit

Ki Mobility Catalyst 5Vx specifications

These figures are for the Catalyst 5Vx on Ki Mobility's current product card and April 2026 order form, sold here under ADP code WMA3KI015. The specification tab holds the stored values. Do not mix them with Catalyst 5 / 5ti (WMA3KI010) or with Catalyst 4 / 4C (Type 2).

Standard weight 24 lbs. Transport weight 13.9 lbs on a 16 by 16 frame with 5 by 1 poly casters and T-arm receivers, footrest and rear wheels removed. Seat width 14 to 22 inches. Seat depth 14 to 20 inches. Front seat height 13.5 to 21 inches. Rear seat height 11.5 to 21 inches. Weight capacity 300 lbs standard, 350 lbs heavy duty. HCPCS K0005.

Warranty for the original purchaser is lifetime on the frame, cross-braces, hangers, and quick-release axles, and one year on other parts. Ki prints an expected frame life of five years. Wear items such as upholstery, tires, armrest pads, tubes, armrests, and grips sit outside that term.

Colour, seat width, and seat depth

Use Color, Seat Width, and Seat Depth with your therapist to record the prescription. Those choices do not turn the 5Vx into a stocked cart item. Westin builds the chair after the ADP-registered assessment and the Ki order form are complete.

  • Color: the frame colour on the order
  • Seat Width: the seat width the therapist measures
  • Seat Depth: the seat depth the therapist measures

Ki also offers 15 inch width and 14 and 15 inch depths, plus a longer gloss, matte, anodize, and hydrographic list than Color shows. Ask us if the prescription falls outside the values on Color, Seat Width, or Seat Depth. A Category 3 chair has large rear wheels so the person can self-propel. It is not a transport chair.

ADP funding for a Category 3 wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this chair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after the prescription is built. We bring it in, unfold it, and show you the wheel locks, the fold, and the axle and hanger setup before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a Category 3 frame first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace. ADP does not pay for repairs.

Ki Mobility manufacturer warranty

Ki Mobility warrants the frame, cross-braces, hangers, and quick-release axles for the life of the original purchaser, and all other parts for one year from first consumer purchase. Wear items are outside that term. The expected life of the frame is five years. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the Catalyst 5 or the Catalyst 5Vx?

This chair is the Catalyst 5Vx, ADP code WMA3KI015. Catalyst 5 and 5ti use WMA3KI010. They share the Catalyst family look and they are not the same order form. If an older name still says 5C, treat that as a label error.

What does Category 3 mean on the 5Vx?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program lists the 5Vx as an Adult Lightweight Performance manual wheelchair. Dealers often call that Category 3 or Type 3. The 5Vx has centre-of-gravity adjustment, quick-release axles, and anti-tippers. Ki's 24 lb standard weight sits under some dealer 25 to 38 lb charts; the Ministry still files it as this Category 3 device, not as a rigid Category 4.

Who qualifies for ADP on this chair?

You must be an Ontario resident with a valid Ontario health card and a disability that needs a mobility aid for six months or longer. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess you before anyone orders the chair. Income is not part of the test. We cannot promise that a specific person will be approved.

How does the 75 / 25 split work?

For eligible clients, ADP pays 75 percent of the approved price and the person pays 25 percent. People on Ontario Works, ODSP, or Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities can be covered at 100 percent of that approved price. Extra items that sit outside the ADP chart are billed separately.

What is the assessment process?

Book an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist. They confirm the need, trial equipment where they can, and complete the application with Westin as the ADP-registered vendor. We submit the form. Do not buy the chair first. A chair bought before approval is not reimbursed.

How long does ADP take?

The ministry says it aims to review a mobility application within eight weeks of receiving it. That is ADP's stated aim, not a Westin delivery date. After approval we order the Ki frame to the prescription and book a setup date.

Can I try a 5Vx before the order?

Westin keeps assessment and trial equipment for therapists to use. Call (905) 451-7743 or come into a Brampton or Toronto store and we will see what is on the floor. A trial chair may not be the same colour or size as the chair that is later built for you.

How should the seat width fit?

The therapist measures seated hip width and leaves a little room on each side. Ki lists 14 to 22 inches. Use Seat Width for the sizes shown there, and ask us if the prescription is 15 inches or another size that is not shown.

What is the weight capacity?

Ki lists 300 lbs as standard and 350 lbs on the heavy-duty option. Stay at or under the rating on your order. The 13.9 lb transport weight is the frame with wheels and footrests off, not the rolling chair.

Will this chair fold into a car trunk?

The frame folds. Ki prints a folded width of 12.8 inches on the 5Vx specification sheet in the owner manual. We can show you the fold at delivery. The chair is not a car seat unless a transit kit is on the order and the vehicle is set up for it.

What is the warranty?

Lifetime on the frame, cross-braces, hangers, and quick-release axles for the original purchaser, and one year on other parts. Wear items are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What happens if ADP declines the application?

ADP sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. We will sit with you and the therapist on the next step. Other routes such as March of Dimes Canada or Veterans Affairs Canada may still help.
