Description
The Joerns UltraCare XT is Joerns Healthcare's higher-capacity full-electric hospital bed. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This listing is the UltraCare XT package with Joerns F17 half-length assist rails and roll-in-low mobility.
Joerns currently rates the UltraCare XT at a 650 lb safe working load and a 600 lb maximum patient weight. The sleep deck travels from 7 inches to 30 inches. The standard sleep surface is 35 inches by 80 inches. An UltraWide kit, ordered separately, takes the width to 39 inches or 42 inches. A length extender takes the deck to 84 inches or 88 inches.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home or in a care room and wants a Joerns tubular frame with more capacity than the EasyCare, plus electric back, knee, and height from one pendant. Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for a 7 inch transfer height and a higher working load.
If you want Joerns' current 600 lb configurable frame, see the Joerns EasyCare. If you want the simpler Joerns tubular low bed, see the Joerns Care 100. If the bed has to come apart for a tight stair or a small room, ask about the Joerns WeCare split-frame bed instead of stretching this one.
- Home care, where the bed has to work in a bedroom and sit at 7 inches for transfers
- Long-term care when a 650 lb Joerns frame is what the therapist or facility asked for
- Anyone who needs electric back, knee, and height, plus Comfort Chair and AutoContour, from one pendant
What you get
The Joerns UltraCare XT is a full-electric bed. Four DC actuators move the back section, the knee section, and the overall height. Current UltraCare XT frames include the AdvanceCare backlit pendant as standard. That pendant raises or lowers the back, the knee, and the height, and it has one-touch Comfort Chair, AutoContour, programmable AutoTransfer Height, programmable low height, and lockout with indicators. The back section pauses at 30 degrees and 45 degrees.
This Westin package is the UltraCare XT with Joerns F17 half-length assist rails and roll-in-low mobility. Head and foot panels ship with the bed. A mattress, staff control, UltraLock, UltraWide, SafeLight, and battery backup are not in the box. Call (905) 451-7743 if you need those pieces with the bed.
- AdvanceCare pendant for back, knee, height, Comfort Chair, AutoContour, and AutoTransfer Height
- Joerns F17 half-length assist rails (pair)
- Roll-in-low mobility with high-grip rubber feet and locking casters
- Toroidal steel grid sleep deck with mattress side stops
- SoftTone frame colour
- Baseboard bumper
- Heavy-duty 3 inch casters
- Head and foot panel sockets, with panels included in this package
- HBSW-compliant bed system; Joerns lists IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60601-2-52, and CSA C22.2 No. 60601-1
Staff control is optional. Gravity Assist, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, and SafeLight live on that staff panel, not on the standard pendant. Battery backup is also optional (Joerns part N111). Without that kit the bed stays where it is if the power goes out.
Joerns UltraCare XT specifications
These figures are for the current Joerns UltraCare XT, Model UCXT, the 650 lb revision Joerns has listed since December 2023. The specification tab holds the stored values. Joerns' current spec sheet and the 650 lb user manual print a roll-in-low deck height of 7 inches to 30 inches, an 85.5 inch overall length on the 80 inch deck, a 220 lb roll-in-low frame, a 650 lb safe working load, and a 600 lb maximum patient weight. UltraLock frames sit 7.25 inches to 30.60 inches and weigh 247 lbs with one lock or 274 lbs with locks at both ends.
The standard sleep surface is 35 inches by 80 inches. Joerns asks for a mattress at least 35 inches wide and 6 inches thick, with the length matching the deck. Width can be set to 39 or 42 inches with the UltraWide kit. Length can be set to 84 or 88 inches with the 4 inch or 8 inch extender. For a 39 inch or 42 inch deck Joerns wants a mattress that matches that width.
Maximum back angle is 65 degrees to horizontal (79 degrees in Comfort Chair). Maximum knee angle is 35 degrees. Maximum knee-to-leg angle is 45 degrees. Under-bed clearance on the official product page is 23 3/4 inches.
Warranty for the original purchaser, printed on the Model UCXT warranty sheet and in the 650 lb manual, is 5 years on mechanical and electrical components, 15 years on steel structural components, lifetime on welds (Joerns defines that lifetime as 20 years), and 90 days on wear parts such as DC batteries and pendants.
Rails, mattress, and UltraCare XT options
This listing is sold as the Joerns UltraCare XT package with F17 half-length assist rails and roll-in-low mobility. There are no rail or mattress selectors on the order form. Joerns designed the assist devices and mattresses that fit this frame. Call (905) 451-7743 before you order if you need a different rail, a surface, a wider deck, staff lockout, UltraLock, or battery backup.
Assist devices and rails
This package includes the Joerns F17 half-length assist device, a pair. Joerns also lists an F026 pivoting assist handle and an F028 deluxe assist handle for this bed. Those map to the Deluxe Rotating Rail, Rotating Assist Bar, and Standard Rotating Assist Rail names on the specification tab; they are factory options, not selectors on the order form. Joerns' user manual says to use Joerns assist devices sized for this frame, and to keep the gap between the mattress and the device small enough that a head or neck cannot catch. Rails are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint. If a therapist asked for a specific rail style, call us with that note.
Mattress
Joerns recommends a mattress at least 35 inches wide and 6 inches thick, with a length that matches the 80 inch deck. The mattress must stay centred so the person cannot slip into a gap. Joerns names PrevaMatt foam surfaces for this frame, including when the UltraWide kit is fitted. We also stock other 35 inch and 36 inch hospital-bed surfaces. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure system. Powered air surfaces can change the gap at the rail, so the mattress and the assist device have to be chosen together.
Other factory options
- UltraLock roll-at-any-height, at the foot or at both the head and the foot. This package is roll-in-low unless we book the upgrade.
- Optional staff control in the foot panel, which adds Gravity Assist, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, SafeLight control, and lockouts.
- Optional N111 on-board battery backup.
- UltraWide width kit for 39 inches or 42 inches.
- 4 inch or 8 inch length extender for 84 inches or 88 inches.
- Head and foot panel designs and finishes. The stock finish on the frame is SoftTone. Call us to confirm the panel style on the frame we will deliver.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?
Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.
Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Joerns manufacturer warranty
Joerns' warranty for the original purchaser of the UltraCare XT, Model UCXT, is 5 years on mechanical and electrical components, 15 years on steel structural components, lifetime on welds (Joerns defines that lifetime as 20 years), and 90 days on wear parts such as DC batteries and pendants. Damage from misuse, unsuitable conditions, or unauthorised repair is not covered. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does OHIP cover hospital beds?
No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.
Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?
The Joerns UltraCare XT is full electric, so the pendant adjusts the back, the knee, and the height of the bed. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank. This Joerns frame does not use a hand crank for everyday height.
How is the UltraCare XT different from the Joerns EasyCare, Care 100, and WeCare?
The UltraCare XT is Joerns' higher-capacity long-term-care frame: 7 inches to 30 inches, 650 lb safe working load, 600 lb maximum patient weight, AdvanceCare on the pendant. The Joerns EasyCare is the current 600 lb configurable Joerns frame with the same height band. The Joerns Care 100 is the older tubular low bed, 8.75 inches to 26 inches, 450 lb. The Joerns WeCare is the current split-frame Joerns low bed still listed on joerns.com.
What mattress fits the Joerns UltraCare XT?
Joerns recommends a mattress at least 35 inches wide and 6 inches thick, with a length that matches the 80 inch deck. Keep the mattress centred. Joerns names PrevaMatt foam surfaces for this frame. We can also fit other 35 inch or 36 inch hospital-bed mattresses, including foam and alternating-pressure systems. Ask your therapist before you pick a powered air surface.
Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?
Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.
How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.
What is included with this Joerns UltraCare XT?
You get the Joerns UltraCare XT full-electric frame with the AdvanceCare pendant, Joerns F17 half-length assist rails, roll-in-low mobility, mattress side stops, casters, the baseboard bumper, and head and foot panels. A mattress, staff control, UltraLock, UltraWide, SafeLight, and battery backup are ordered separately.
What is the weight capacity of the Joerns UltraCare XT?
Joerns lists a 600 lb maximum patient weight and a 650 lb safe working load for the current UltraCare XT. The safe working load is the person, the mattress, the bedding, and any accessories on the bed. If the person is near that limit, or you need a wider sleep deck as standard, call us before you order so we confirm the frame we will deliver.
What happens if the power goes out?
Battery backup is optional on this model. If the Joerns N111 on-board kit is fitted and charged, the bed can finish a move if the power is out. Without that kit the pendant will not move the bed until power returns. There is no hand crank on the UltraCare XT.
What is the warranty on the Joerns UltraCare XT?
For the original purchaser, Joerns covers mechanical and electrical components for 5 years, steel structural components for 15 years, welds for the lifetime of the product (20-year intended life), and wear parts such as DC batteries and pendants for 90 days. Those terms are printed on Joerns' UltraCare XT warranty sheet and in the 650 lb user manual. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.
What is the difference between roll-in-low and UltraLock?
This package is roll-in-low. The bed rolls when the deck is at 7 inches. You lock the casters to keep it still. UltraLock is Joerns' roll-at-any-height lock. It can be fitted at the foot, or at both the head and the foot, and the deck then sits 7.25 inches to 30.60 inches. The bed is not a transport device. Joerns says not to roll it over thresholds with someone in it.
