Description
The JAY Zip back is Sunrise Medical's kids wheelchair back support for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The current card rates it at 165 lbs (75 kg). Widths run 8 to 14 inches (20 to 36 cm). A 12 by 12 inch Zip back weighs 2.5 lbs (1.1 kg) with hardware. This is a quote-only pediatric back, built after a seating assessment.
Sunrise writes the Zip as a lightweight, anti-microbial, adjustable kids back for posterior and mild lateral thoracic support. Widths and heights are sized for children 2 to 15 years of age.
Who this back is for
The JAY Zip back fits a child whose therapist wants a light contoured shell, not an adult J3 and not a strap-on GO. Pair it with the JAY Zip Cushion when both seat and back should stay in the kids range. A seating therapist should confirm Zip versus a small JAY J3 Back if the child is near 14 inches wide or near the 165 lb rating.
- 8 to 14 inch widths, heights 6, 8, 10, or 12 inches
- 2.5 lbs (1.1 kg) at 12 by 12 inches with hardware
- 165 lb (75 kg) rating
Growth hardware and dual cover
The JAY Zip back uses quick-release hardware with 2.75 inches of depth, 1 inch of width, and 20 degrees of angle so the shell can move as the child grows. Two mounting points give height options on the canes. Cane diameters on the card run 3/4 inch to 1 1/8 inch. A headrest mount is available.
Contour shape changes with width. Lateral contour is 1 to 2.5 inches. The foam is extra soft for lower body weights. The inner cover is water-resistant with a water-resistant zipper and anti-wicking thread. The outer cover is machine-washable silver-thread stretch (X-static on the Canada card). Spine Align inserts, extra laterals, chest straps, and Whitmyer head supports are ordered with the back when the assessment asks for them.

How a Zip back is ordered
A seating therapist measures the child's trunk width and torso height and names the height band. Westin maps that to an 8 to 14 inch shell and hardware that matches the chair canes. There is no drop-down that can do that work.
Which JAY wheelchair back fits
The JAY Zip back is the kids JAY shell. Stay here for ages 2 to 15 and widths 8 to 14 inches. The JAY J3 Back is the adult contour family. The JAY GO Back is the strap-on foam step. The matching kids seat is the JAY Zip Cushion. The growth cushion on the JAY ladder is the JAY GS Cushion.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers this kids wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area once the shell is built. We bring it in, check the hardware against the chair canes, and show you both covers before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a JAY back first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased backs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the back is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the back needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Sunrise Medical JAY warranty
The JAY Zip Back owner's manual is the warranty source for the original purchaser. Punctures, tears, and burns sit outside that term. Sunrise notes that Canadian terms can follow provincial funding rules. We handle the warranty claim with you on units we sold. Ask us for the insert that ships with your order.
Frequently asked questions
What Size Zip Back Does A Child Need?
The JAY Zip back is ordered in widths from 8 to 14 inches and heights of 6, 8, 10, or 12 inches. A seating therapist measures trunk width and torso height. Do not guess from clothing size.
What Age Is The JAY Zip Back For?
The JAY Zip back is sized by Sunrise for children 2 to 15 years of age. Width and the 165 lb rating still govern the order.
Does ADP Cover A Kids Wheelchair Back?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the child. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
How Much Does The JAY Zip Back Weigh?
A 12 by 12 inch JAY Zip back weighs 2.5 lbs (1.1 kg) with hardware on Sunrise's current card.
Will Zip Hardware Grow With The Child?
The JAY Zip back hardware offers 2.75 inches of depth, 1 inch of width, and 20 degrees of angle. That is growth inside one shell, not an adult J3.
Is The Zip Back The Same As The Zip Cushion?
The JAY Zip back is the kids back shell. The JAY Zip Cushion is the matching kids foam seat. They are separate products and are often ordered together.
What Cover Does The Zip Back Use?
The JAY Zip back uses a water-resistant inner cover and a machine-washable X-static silver-thread stretch outer cover on the Canada card.
Can I See A JAY Kids Back In Brampton?
Westin Healthcare can show a JAY back in the Brampton and Toronto stores and deliver across the GTA. Call (905) 451-7743 to check what is on the floor and to book an assessment.
