Description
The JAY Encompass back is Sunrise Medical's configurable wheelchair back support for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The current card rates it at 250 lbs (113 kg). Widths run 14 to 25 inches (36 to 64 cm). Heights run 12 to 28 inches (30 to 71 cm). The shell weighs 8 lbs (3.6 kg). This is a quote-only back. Laterals and foam are built to the seating assessment.
Sunrise writes Encompass as a fully configurable back for aggressive positioning needs, with three-piece swing-away laterals and foam ordered to the person.
Who this back is for
The JAY Encompass back fits a person whose therapist wants laterals that wrap the torso and swing away for transfers. Stay here when a single J3 contour is not enough and the 250 lb rating still fits. A seating therapist should confirm Encompass versus the JAY J3 Back plus separate JAY Swing-Away Lateral Thoracic Supports.
- 14 to 25 inch widths, 12 to 28 inch heights
- Three-piece swing-away laterals, 6 inch contour
- 250 lb (113 kg) rating
Laterals, foam, and hardware
The JAY Encompass back uses a contoured three-piece aluminum shell. The laterals can be set to hug the torso and swing away so they do not block a transfer. Foam thickness and density are ordered to the person, or layered. The outer cover is AirExchange. Hardware is 4-Point with 15 degrees of angle. Cane diameters on the card are 7/8 inch and 1 inch. A headrest mount is available. JAY Your Way is printed as not available on this card.
JAY Encompass Back specifications
These figures are from Sunrise Medical's current Encompass card. The specification tab holds the stored values. We do not invent a width, height, or foam picker on this page.

Hardware: 4-Point, 15 degrees, canes 7/8 inch and 1 inch. Shell: contoured three-piece aluminum. Lateral contour: swing-away 6 inch supports. Insert: configurable soft foam. Outer cover: AirExchange.
Sunrise does not link an owner's manual on the live Encompass card. Sunrise notes that Canadian terms can follow provincial funding rules. Ask us for the warranty insert that ships with your order.
How an Encompass is ordered
A seating therapist measures torso width and height and names the lateral and foam build. Westin maps that to a 14 to 25 inch shell and 4-Point hardware that matches 7/8 inch or 1 inch canes. There is no drop-down that can do that work.
Which JAY wheelchair back fits
The JAY Encompass back is the three-piece lateral step, rated at 250 lbs. Stay here when wrap-around laterals and custom foam are the point. The JAY J3 Back is the contour-shell family up to 500 lbs on wide sizes. The JAY GO Back is strap-on foam. The JAY Zip Back is the kids shell. Extra laterals for a J3 live on JAY Swing-Away Lateral Thoracic Supports.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers this wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area once the shell is built. We bring it in, check the 4-Point hardware against the chair canes, and show you how the laterals swing away before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a JAY back first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased backs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
If the back is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the back needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Sunrise Medical JAY warranty
Sunrise does not publish an Encompass owner's manual on the live card. Canadian terms can follow provincial funding rules. We handle the warranty claim with you on units we sold. Ask us for the insert that ships with your order.
Frequently asked questions
How Do I Choose A Wheelchair Back?
The JAY Encompass back is for wrap-around laterals and foam ordered to the person, inside a 250 lb rating. Choose J3 if the therapist wants a one-piece contour family up to 500 lbs on wide sizes.
Do The Encompass Laterals Swing Away?
The JAY Encompass back uses three-piece swing-away laterals so the pads can hug the torso and move out of the way for a transfer.
Does ADP Cover Wheelchair Back Supports?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the person. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
What Is The Weight Limit For The Encompass Back?
The JAY Encompass back is rated at 250 lbs (113 kg) on Sunrise's current card.
Which Cane Sizes Fit Encompass Hardware?
The JAY Encompass back hardware on the current card fits 7/8 inch and 1 inch canes. Westin checks the chair before the order is placed.
Can Encompass Be Modified Through JAY Your Way?
The JAY Encompass back card prints JAY Your Way as not available. Foam thickness and density are still ordered on the Encompass form itself.
How Is Encompass Different From Add-On Laterals?
The JAY Encompass back is a three-piece shell with laterals built in. JAY Swing-Away Lateral Thoracic Supports bolt onto another JAY back, often a J3, when that shell needs more lateral depth.
Can I See A JAY Back In Brampton?
Westin Healthcare can show a JAY back in the Brampton and Toronto stores and deliver across the GTA. Call (905) 451-7743 to check what is on the floor and to book an assessment.
