Description

The Harmony 8199 is Harmony Products Inc.'s full-electric home care hospital bed, sold as the Harmony 8199 Home Care Bed. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The 10-button wired hand control moves the head section, the knee section, the height of the bed, Auto-Contour, and Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg tilt.

Harmony lists a deck height of 10 inches to 25 inches from the floor to the top of the deck. Maximum user weight is 400 lbs. Safe working load is 440 lbs for the person, the mattress, the rails, and anything else on the bed. A built-in extender takes the sleep length from 80 inches to 84 inches, so there is no separate length kit to order.

Who this bed is for

This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home, with electric head, knee, and height from one hand control, and who may also need Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg tilt. The 10 inch low deck helps with transfers. The same hand control still raises the bed so a caregiver can change linen without working at floor height.

Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for tilt positioning at home. If you want the same Harmony brand with a more residential look and an 880 lb capacity, see the Harmony Hi-Low bed. If you want a simpler full-electric package without Trendelenburg, start with the Drive Delta 1000. If the person is near or over 400 lbs, ask us about the Drive 15300LW 42-inch bariatric bed instead of stretching this frame.

  • Home care, where the bed has to work in a bedroom and sit as low as 10 inches for transfers
  • Anyone who needs electric head, knee, and height, plus Trendelenburg tilt, from one hand control
  • Caregivers who want all four casters to lock, and a two-piece frame that comes in as two sections

What you get

The Harmony 8199 is a full-electric, four-section home care bed. The hand control positions the backrest, the knee-break, the overall height, Auto-Contour (backrest and knee together), and Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg. Harmony fits a magnetic fob on that handset so the functions can be locked.

Westin's listing is the Harmony 8199 Home Care Bed Package with Mattress. The frame arrives as two pieces with the transport brackets, the headboard and footboard, four locking casters, mattress retainers, and the built-in extender. Use Bed Rails below to choose HALF RAILS or FULL RAILS.

  • 10-button wired hand control with magnetic fob lockout
  • Auto-Contour, so the backrest and knee-break rise together
  • Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg, each up to 12 degrees
  • Built-in extender from 80 inches to 84 inches
  • Transport brackets that store on the frame after setup
  • Four locking 4 inch casters, all foot-operated
  • Headboard and footboard included
  • Mattress retaining clips
  • Two-piece frame for a simpler carry-in
  • Colour-coded plugs on the controller

The magnetic fob starts the handset locked. One pass over the padlock opens everyday adjustments and leaves Trendelenburg locked. A second pass opens Trendelenburg. After about 45 seconds with no button press, the handset locks itself again. Keep the fob with the bed.

Emergency battery backup is optional and is not in the carton. Harmony's user manual says that kit can only be fitted by the manufacturer or an authorised service agent. Ask us if you want that retrofit booked with setup. There is no 9V backup in the hand control and no emergency crank listed for this model.

Harmony 8199 specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU HPI-8199-FULL, the Harmony 8199 Home Care Bed. The specification tab holds the stored values. Harmony's current medical collection and sell sheet for this model list a deck height of 10 inches to 25 inches from the floor to the top of the deck, a 400 lb maximum user weight, a 440 lb safe working load, and a 189 lb (86 kg) frame.

Harmony sizes the sleep surface as a standard 36 inch by 80 inch hospital-bed mattress, and 36 inches by 84 inches when the built-in extender is out. Overall length is 88 inches. Overall width with side rails is 37 inches. Backrest travel is 0 to 72 degrees. Knee-break travel is 0 to 25 degrees.

Warranty for the original purchaser is a limited lifetime on the frame, and 4 years on the motors and electronics, including parts and labour. The bed is built to EN 60601-2-52.

Bed Rails

Use Bed Rails to set HALF RAILS or FULL RAILS before you order. Harmony's half-length rails are the standard rail on this frame. Full-length rails are the other choice on this listing.

  • HALF RAILS
  • FULL RAILS

Use only the rails Harmony lists for this frame, and keep the mattress centred so the person cannot slip into a gap. Rails are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint and they are not a handle for getting in or out of bed. If you are not sure which rail style the therapist asked for, call (905) 451-7743 before you order.

This listing is sold as a package with a mattress sized for the 36 inch by 80 inch sleep surface. Confirm the mattress with us when you book delivery. If the person needs the 84 inch length, tell us before we come so we leave the extender out and use a matching mattress length.

Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.

Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?

Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.

Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Harmony manufacturer warranty

Harmony Products Inc.'s warranty for the original purchaser of this bed is a limited lifetime on the frame, and 4 years on the motors and electronics, including parts and labour. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does OHIP cover hospital beds?

No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.

Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.

What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?

The Harmony 8199 is full electric. The hand control adjusts the head, the knee, the height of the bed, Auto-Contour, and Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank.

How is the Harmony 8199 different from the Harmony Hi-Low?

The 8199 is Harmony's hospital-style home care bed: a 36 inch by 80 inch sleep surface, a wired 10-button handset, Trendelenburg tilt, and a 400 lb user weight. The Harmony Hi-Low is the residential-look sibling, with an 880 lb capacity and a wireless remote. Pick the 8199 when you want a hospital deck and tilt. Pick the Hi-Low when you want the bed to look more like furniture.

What mattress fits the Harmony 8199?

Harmony sizes the sleep surface for a 36 inch by 80 inch hospital-bed mattress, or 36 inches by 84 inches when the built-in extender is out. This listing is sold as a package with a mattress. Confirm the surface with us when you book. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure system.

Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?

Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.

How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.

What is included with this Harmony 8199?

You get the Harmony 8199 full-electric frame with headboard and footboard, the built-in 80 to 84 inch extender, the transport brackets, four locking casters, mattress retainers, and the 10-button hand control with magnetic fob. Bed Rails sets HALF RAILS or FULL RAILS. This listing is sold as a package with a mattress. The optional battery backup is not in the carton.

What is the weight capacity of the Harmony 8199?

Harmony lists a maximum user weight of 400 lbs and a safe working load of 440 lbs. The safe working load includes the person, the mattress, the rails, and anything else on the bed. If the person is near that limit, or you need a wider sleep deck, ask us about a bariatric hospital bed instead of stretching this frame.

What happens if the power goes out?

There is no battery in the carton and no 9V backup in the hand control. Harmony offers an optional backup battery that an authorised technician fits. Ask us before delivery if you want that kit. Keep the magnetic fob with the bed so the handset can be unlocked when power returns.

What is the warranty on the Harmony 8199?

For the original purchaser, Harmony covers the frame for a limited lifetime and the motors and electronics for 4 years, including parts and labour. Those terms are printed in Harmony's HPI-8199 user manual. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.

What is Trendelenburg on the Harmony 8199?

Trendelenburg tilts the whole sleep surface head-down. Reverse Trendelenburg tilts it foot-down. Harmony lists each tilt at 12 degrees on this model. The magnetic fob keeps those buttons locked until you pass it over the padlock a second time. Ask the therapist whether tilt is part of the care plan before you use it.
