Description

The Handicare 1100 straight stairlift is a slim indoor chair for a single straight flight. Westin Healthcare is a Savaria dealer for Handicare stairlifts. We measure the stairs in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, then send a written quote. The Handicare brand is sold in Canada by Savaria. This is not the Handicare 1000 and it is not a curved rail.

Savaria rates the 1100 at 310 lb (140 kg). On inclines steeper than 46 degrees the rating is 287 lb (130 kg). The rail is a covered friction-drive track with no gear rack. Folded, the chair sits about 12-5/8 in (32 cm) from the wall. Unfolded it is about 21 in (53 cm). Maximum travel is 23 ft (7 m).

Who this stairlift is for

This stairlift is for a household that needs a quiet indoor chair on a straight staircase and wants the rail to stay slim for other people who still walk the stairs. Families usually call us when the stairs are narrow, when a door sits at the top or bottom landing, or when a heavier outdoor chair is more than they need.

If the user needs more than 310 lb, an outdoor rail, or a perch (semi-standing) seat, see the Handicare 1000. If the stairs turn, see the Handicare Freecurve. A wheelchair that must stay on its wheels belongs on a vertical platform lift, not on this seat.

  • Straight indoor stairs between 30 and 50 degrees
  • A user at or under 310 lb (140 kg), or 287 lb (130 kg) on a steep flight
  • A fold-up seat, footrest, and arms so the stairs stay open

Rail, drive, and landing options

The Handicare 1100 uses Savaria's patented four-motor friction drive. There is no tooth rack and no grease line on the rail. Four brush heads sweep the rail. Charging runs along the track, so the chair can sit and charge anywhere on the run. The batteries keep several trips available if household power drops.

The seat swivels and locks at the top landing. A power swivel and a power folding footrest are options when bending or turning the seat by hand is hard. For a door at the stairs, Savaria offers three rail extras: Zero Intrusion brackets at the top step, an Easy Hinge (manual, gas-strut) at the bottom, and a Slide Track that moves the rail clear as the chair parks.

Handicare 1100 specifications

These figures are from Savaria's live Handicare 1100 card and the current 1100 brochure.

Capacity 310 lb (140 kg), 287 lb (130 kg) above 46 degrees. Fold-up 12-5/8 in (320 mm). Fold-out 21 in (530 mm). Travel up to 23 ft (7 m). Speed 15 ft/min (0.08 m/s). Incline 30 to 50 degrees. Motor 0.4 hp, 24 V DC. Vanilla-beige vinyl seat, armrest toggle, two remotes, keyed switch, retractable seat belt, non-skid footrest, obstacle sensors, overspeed governor. Indoor residential only.

Track length and power upgrades

Use Track Length for 15.4 ft (4.7 m) or 23 ft (7 m). Use Power Upgrades for Manual, Power Swivel, Power Footrest, or Fully Powered. Slide Track, Zero Intrusion, and Easy Hinge are quoted with the measure. Call (905) 451-7743 for a free home measure and a written quote. The chair is not a boxed cart item.

Straight, curved, or a porch lift

A straight stairlift fits one straight flight. A curved stairlift is custom-bent for a turn or a landing. See the Handicare Freecurve and the Access Flow X page. A porch lift carries a person who stays in a wheelchair. See the Serenity Standard Vertical Platform Lift. The Handicare 1000 is the heavier indoor or outdoor straight chair from the same Savaria Handicare line.

Funding help for a stairlift or home accessibility in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund stairlifts, platform lifts, or home modifications, so plan around other routes. The March of Dimes Canada Home and Vehicle Modification Program is the main Ontario funding source for home accessibility changes like stairlifts and platform lifts, and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), the Ontario Renovates program in some municipalities, extended health plans, and community organizations can also help. The Home Accessibility Tax Credit may apply to qualifying renovations on a Canadian tax return. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team measures, delivers, and installs the Handicare 1100 across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We fix the rail to the stair treads, run the chair, and show you the toggle, remotes, and swivel before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather sit in a chair first. For a scheduled measure, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; a purchased stairlift is installed on a scheduled date after the quote.

A stairlift rail is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the stairlift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home.

Savaria Handicare manufacturer warranty

Savaria's North America warranty for Handicare stairlifts is 24 months on parts. The motor and gearbox are covered for 10 years on an indoor install and 5 years on an outdoor install. The term starts when the chair ships from Savaria. Regular dealer inspections in the owner's manual are required. Batteries and other consumables are not covered. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

How Much Does A Stairlift Cost In Ontario?

A Handicare 1100 straight stairlift is quoted after a home measure. Rail length, power swivel or footrest, and any Slide Track, Easy Hinge, or Zero Intrusion extra change the figure. Call (905) 451-7743 for a written quote. The 1100 is sold as a quote, not a printed price.

Does ADP Cover Stairlifts In Ontario?

Funding for a Handicare 1100 in Ontario depends on the person's situation and assessment. Westin Healthcare works with the programs that may apply and will point you to the right route. Visit the funding page or call (905) 451-7743 before you buy.

Is This A Straight Or Curved Stairlift?

The Handicare 1100 is a straight stairlift for one straight flight. A turn, a pie-shaped stair, or an intermediate landing needs a curved rail such as the Handicare Freecurve.

What Is The Weight Capacity?

Savaria rates the Handicare 1100 at 310 lb (140 kg). On an incline steeper than 46 degrees the rating is 287 lb (130 kg). Stay at or under the rating that matches the measured angle.

How Slim Is The Rail When The Seat Is Folded?

The Handicare 1100 folds to about 12-5/8 in (32 cm) from the wall. Unfolded it is about 21 in (53 cm). Seat, footrest, and arms fold so other people can use the stairs.

Does It Work During A Power Cut?

Yes. The Handicare 1100 runs on batteries that charge from household power along the rail. Savaria says the batteries provide several up and down trips if the power fails.

How Long Does Installation Take?

Savaria says a straight stairlift can go in in as little as a few hours after the measure and the quote. We book a date that works for the household. Curved rails take longer because the factory bends them to the photos.

What Is The Difference Between The 1100 And The 1000?

The Handicare 1100 is the slim indoor friction-drive chair, 310 lb, 23 ft max, continuous rail charging. The Handicare 1000 is the hidden-rack chair, 350 lb (440 lb optional), up to 32 ft, with a perch seat and an outdoor package.

Can I Install The Stairlift Myself?

No. Savaria requires an authorized dealer to install and service a Handicare 1100. Westin Healthcare does that install in the GTA and trains the people who will ride it.

What Warranty Does It Carry?

Savaria covers Handicare 1100 parts for 24 months. The motor and gearbox are covered for 10 years on an indoor install. Westin Healthcare handles the claim with you.
