Description
The Permobil Hälsa is Permobil Canada's full-electric home care hospital bed, sold here as the Hälsa Bed Package with Rails. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The 10-button hand pendant moves the head section, the foot section, and the height of the bed. Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg come standard, and the pendant can move the head and foot together.
On the standard caster setup the sleep deck sits between 9.875 inches and 25.625 inches. The standard 36 inch bed is rated to 375 lbs. Hälsa Plus is rated to 500 lbs and is ordered in 36, 39, 42, or 48 inch widths. This package includes the headboard, the footboard, and half rails. It does not include a mattress.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home and wants electric head, foot, and height, plus Trendelenburg, from one hand control. Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for Trendelenburg or a wider sleep deck without moving up to a long-term-care frame.
If you do not need Trendelenburg or a Plus width, start with the Drive Delta 1000. If you need the sleep deck lower than 9.875 inches, see the Rotec VersaTech 1100 ultra-low bed. If the person is near or over 500 lbs, or you need a 48 inch Drive homecare deck instead of Hälsa Plus, ask us about the Drive 15302LW 48-inch bariatric bed.
- Home care, where the bed has to work in a bedroom and come apart into four sections for the stairs or a tight hallway
- Anyone who needs Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg on a home-care frame, not as a long-term-care extra
- Anyone who needs a 36 inch deck at 375 lbs, or a Plus deck at 500 lbs in 36, 39, 42, or 48 inches
What you get
The Hälsa is a full-electric home-care bed. Permobil fits DC Linak motors and a 10-button hand pendant. Dual posts on each side of the frame are there for stability at every height. The frame and platform come apart into four sections for delivery, a later move, or storage. The bed ships in two or three cartons (the third carton is the rail kit when it is packed on its own).
Westin's default choice, 36" Standard with half rails (HALSA-STD-HSR-PKG), is Permobil's half-rail package: the standard frame, the 36 inch headboard and footboard, casters, the pendant, and one set of half rails. Use Choose Bed Size if the person needs Hälsa Plus. Use Head/Foot Board Color for Natural Maple or Mahogany Wine. A mattress is not in this package.
- 10-button hand pendant for head, foot, height, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, and simultaneous head-and-foot movement
- Dual posts on each side of the frame
- Headboard and footboard in Natural Maple or Mahogany Wine, with covers
- Half rails included with every Choose Bed Size row
- Removable composite deck sections on the standard bed, for cleaning
- Side and foot mattress retainers
- A receptacle for a trapeze bar, and two receptacles for IV-holder stems
- Hooks for an incontinence bag
- Three locking casters and one directional locking caster
- Quiet, low-consumption DC Linak motors
- Bed comes apart into four sections
Battery backup is not included. If you want the bed to keep moving through a power cut, add Battery Backup under Accessories. Permobil asks that the bed and the backup stay plugged in for 48 hours to charge before you rely on them.
Permobil Hälsa specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU HALSA, the Permobil Hälsa Bed Package with Rails. The specification tab holds the stored values. Permobil's current brochure lists a deck height of 9.875 inches to 25.625 inches on the standard casters, a 375 lb capacity on the standard 36 inch bed, and a 500 lb capacity on Hälsa Plus. The owner manuals print the same capacities in kilograms (170 kg and 226 kg) and give a product weight of about 265 lbs (99 kg), which can change with options.
The standard sleep surface is 36 inches wide by 80 inches long. Hälsa Plus uses the same 80 inch length and expands to 36, 39, 42, or 48 inches wide. Permobil's owner manuals print the overall bed as about 88 inches long by 38 inches wide, and the platform as about 79 inches long by 36 inches wide before Plus expansion. Electrical supply is 120V, 60 Hz.
An older Permobil brochure printed 12.125 inches low and 27.875 inches high when the upgraded large caster is fitted. Ask us to confirm that pair if you add Casters Assembly 5" (Set of 4).
Warranty for the original purchaser is 10 years on the frame, 4 years on mechanical parts, 2 years on electrical parts (motors, hand control, and electronic components), and 1 year on wood products.
Choose Bed Size, Head/Foot Board Color, and Accessories
Use the selectors to set the frame, the board colour, and any extras. Every Choose Bed Size row already includes rails: half rails on five rows, full rails on the 36" Standard full-rail package. A mattress is not chosen on this page. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will match a 36, 39, 42, or 48 inch by 80 inch hospital-bed mattress to the deck you pick.
Choose Bed Size
Pick one:
- 36" Standard with half rails (HALSA-STD-HSR-PKG)
- 36" Standard with full rails (HALSA-STD-FSR-PKG)
- 36" Plus with half rails (HALSA-PLUS-HSR-PKG)
- 39" Plus with half rails (HALSA-PLUS-HSR-NATURE-PKG-39)
- 42" Plus with half rails (HALSA-PLUS-HSR-NATURE-PKG-42)
- 48" Plus with half rails (HALSA-PLUS-HSR-NATURE-PKG-48)
The two Standard rows are the 375 lb Hälsa with 36 inch boards: one ships with half rails, the other with full rails, at the same price. The four Plus rows are the 500 lb Plus frame with half rails, ordered at 36, 39, 42, or 48 inches (39 to 48 inch boards come in Nature only). If you are not sure which width the therapist asked for, call (905) 451-7743 before you order.
Head/Foot Board Color
Pick one:
- Natural Maple
- Mahogany Wine
Those are Permobil's Nature and Wine boards. Permobil prints Wine for the 36 inch headboard and footboard. If you pick HALSA PLUS 39" WIDE, HALSA PLUS 42" WIDE, or HALSA PLUS 48" WIDE, choose Natural Maple.
Accessories
These are extras. None of them is required.
- Half Side Rails (Head or Foot, Pair): a second Permobil half-rail pair for the other end of the bed
- Full Side Rails (Pair): Permobil full rails for the standard 36 inch bed only. Do not add these to a Hälsa Plus size. Permobil states that Plus cannot accept full side rails.
- Trapeze Bar: the Hälsa trapeze that fits the receptacle on the frame
- Battery Backup: the optional backup. Charge it for 48 hours before you need it
- Assist Bar (Head or Foot - Single): one assist bar, head or foot
- Casters Assembly 5" (Set of 4): the upgraded large-caster set
Rails are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint and they are not a handle for getting in or out of bed. Keep the mattress centred so the person cannot slip into a gap. If you are not sure which rail or bar the therapist asked for, call (905) 451-7743 before you order.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?
Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.
Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Permobil manufacturer warranty
Permobil's warranty for the original purchaser of this bed is 10 years on the frame, 4 years on mechanical parts, 2 years on electrical parts (motors, hand control, and electronic components), and 1 year on wood products. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does OHIP cover hospital beds?
No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.
Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?
The Permobil Hälsa is full electric, so the hand pendant adjusts the head, the foot, and the height of the bed, plus Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank.
What mattress fits the Permobil Hälsa?
Size the mattress to the deck you order: 36 inches by 80 inches on STANDARD 36" BED, or 36, 39, 42, or 48 inches by 80 inches on Hälsa Plus. This package does not include a mattress. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will match a hospital-bed surface to the width you pick. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure system.
Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?
Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.
How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.
What is included with this Permobil Hälsa?
You get the full-electric Hälsa frame, the headboard and footboard, casters, the 10-button pendant, and the rails named on your Choose Bed Size row: half rails on most packages, full rails on the FSR package. Head/Foot Board Color sets Natural Maple or Mahogany Wine. A mattress is not included. Battery Backup, a trapeze, extra rails, an assist bar, and the 5 inch caster set are Accessories extras.
What is the weight capacity of the Permobil Hälsa?
Permobil lists 375 lbs on the standard 36 inch Hälsa and 500 lbs on Hälsa Plus. If the person is near that limit, or you need a wider deck than 48 inches, ask us about a bariatric hospital bed instead of stretching this frame.
What happens if the power goes out?
The standard package has no battery. The bed stays in the last position until power returns. Add Battery Backup under Accessories if you want the pendant to keep working. Permobil asks that the bed and the backup stay plugged in for 48 hours to charge, then you can unplug and test the pendant.
What is the warranty on the Permobil Hälsa?
For the original purchaser, Permobil covers the frame for 10 years, mechanical parts for 4 years, electrical parts for 2 years, and wood products for 1 year. Those terms are printed in Permobil's current beds guide and line up with the owner-manual frame and electrical terms. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.
What is Trendelenburg on this bed, and can I get a wider Hälsa?
Trendelenburg tilts the whole sleep deck so the feet sit higher than the head. Reverse Trendelenburg tilts the other way. Both come standard on this bed. For a wider deck, choose one of the HALSA PLUS rows at 36, 39, 42, or 48 inches. Plus is the 500 lb frame. Full side rails fit the standard 36 inch bed only.
