Description
The Joerns EasyCare is Joerns Healthcare's full-electric long-term-care hospital bed, sold as the Joerns EasyCare Hospital Bed. Westin Healthcare sells the 600 lb EasyCare, SKU ECSBED-600, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The AdvanceCare hand control moves the back section, the knee section, and the height of the bed, and it also has Comfort Chair, AutoContour, and AutoTransfer Height.
Joerns prints a sleep-deck travel range of 7 inches to 30 inches on the current EasyCare sheet. The 600 lb user manual splits that as 7.00 to 30.00 inches on Roll-in-Low and 7.65 to 30.65 inches on Roll-at-any-Height. Safe working load is 600 lbs for the person, the mattress, the rails, and anything else on the bed. Maximum patient weight is 550 lbs. The standard sleep surface is 35 inches by 80 inches. Joerns can expand width to 39 or 42 inches and length to 84 or 88 inches with the matching kits.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home or in a care setting and wants a lower sleep deck than a standard homecare bed, with electric back, knee, and height from one hand control. Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for a 7 inch transfer height and a 600 lb frame.
If you want a simpler Joerns frame, start with the Joerns Care 100. If the person needs more capacity than 550 lbs, see the Joerns UltraCare XT (650 lb). If the bed has to come apart for a tight stair or a small room, ask about the Joerns WeCare split-frame bed instead of stretching this one.
- Home care, where the bed has to work in a bedroom and sit as low as 7 inches for transfers
- Long-term care, when a configurable 600 lb Joerns frame is what the facility asked for
- Anyone who needs electric back, knee, and height, plus Comfort Chair and AutoContour, from one hand control
What you get
The Joerns EasyCare is a full-electric bed. Four DC actuators move the back section, the knee section, and the overall height. The current EasyCare 600 lb sheet includes the AdvanceCare backlit hand control as standard. That pendant raises or lowers the back, the knee, and the height, and it has one-touch Comfort Chair, AutoContour, programmable AutoTransfer Height, programmable low height, and lockout with indicators. The back section pauses at 30 degrees and 45 degrees.
Westin's SKU ECSBED-600 is Joerns' 600 lb EasyCare, Model ECS. Dealers list ECSBED-600 as the standard 80 inch frame with no added options. Rails, a mattress, and head and foot panels are added when you order. CareLock roll-at-any-height, CareWide or Care-Fit width expansion, staff control, and the N111 battery backup are Joerns options, not part of the bare ECSBED-600 code. Call (905) 451-7743 if you need us to confirm which mobility base and which extras are on the frame we will deliver.
- AdvanceCare hand control for back, knee, height, Comfort Chair, AutoContour, and AutoTransfer Height
- Four whisper-quiet DC actuators
- Toroidal steel grid sleep deck with mattress stops
- SoftTone frame colour
- EasyLift leg positioner
- Baseboard bumper
- Four IV sockets
- Sockets for Joerns head and foot panels
- Heavy-duty 3 inch casters
- HBSW-compliant bed system; Joerns lists IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60601-2-52, and CSA C22.2 No. 60601-1
Staff control is optional. Gravity Assist, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, and SafeLight live on that staff panel, not on the standard pendant. Battery backup is also optional (Joerns part N111). Without that kit the bed stays where it is if the power goes out.
Joerns EasyCare specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU ECSBED-600, the Joerns EasyCare 600 lb bed, Model ECS. The specification tab holds the stored values. Joerns' current EasyCare sheet and the 600 lb user manual print a Roll-in-Low deck height of 7 inches to 30 inches, a Roll-at-any-Height range of 7.65 inches to 30.65 inches, a 220 lb Roll-in-Low frame, and a 230 lb Roll-at-any-Height frame. The Joerns product page still shows 279 lbs for Roll-at-any-Height. Copy uses the current sheet and manual.
The standard sleep surface is 35 inches by 80 inches. Joerns asks for a mattress at least 35 inches wide and 6 inches thick, with the length matching the deck. Overall length for the 80 inch deck is 84.25 inches. Width can be set to 35, 39, or 42 inches with Care-Fit integrated width or the CareWide accessory. Length can be set to 80, 84, or 88 inches with the integrated length option or the 4 inch (N301AL) and 8 inch (N302AL) extenders. For a 39 inch deck Joerns wants a 39 inch mattress. For a 42 inch deck Joerns wants a 42 inch mattress.
Maximum patient weight is 550 lbs. Safe working load is 600 lbs for the person, the mattress, the rails, and anything else on the bed. Maximum back angle is 65 degrees. Maximum knee angle is 35 degrees. Under-bed clearance on the official product page is 23 3/4 inches.
Warranty for the original purchaser, printed on the Model ECS warranty sheet, is 4 years on mechanical and electrical components, 15 years on steel structural components, and lifetime on welds (Joerns defines that lifetime as 20 years). DC batteries and pendants are covered for 90 days.
Rails, mattress, and panels
This listing is the EasyCare 600 lb bed frame. Ask us to add Joerns assist devices, a mattress, and wood-grain panels when you order, or we can set that up when we book delivery.
Rails and assist devices
Joerns assist devices that fit this frame include:
- Standard Rotating Assist Rail: Joerns F025 / F026 assist handles
- Half Bed Rails: Joerns F14SC half-length assist device (pair), Westin SKU F14SCAL
- Deluxe Rotating Rail: Joerns F18 SoftCare half-length assist device (pair), Westin SKU F18AL, and the F028 deluxe assist handle
Joerns also lists a full-length rail F168AL that needs N832AL mounting hardware. Use only Joerns assist devices made for EasyCare. The user manual says to keep the mattress centred so the person cannot slip into a gap. Rails and assist handles are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint and they are not a handle for getting in or out of bed. If you are not sure which style the therapist asked for, call (905) 451-7743 before you order.
Mattress
The standard sleep surface takes a 35 inch by 80 inch hospital-bed mattress that is at least 6 inches thick. Joerns mattresses we stock include the Joerns PrevaMatt Alleviate 35x80 and the Joerns Deluxe 500. Drive Gravity 7, Gravity 8, Gravity 9, and Domus 4 surfaces can also be fitted if that is what the therapist asked for. If the deck is opened to 39 or 42 inches, the mattress has to match that width.
Head and foot panels
Head and foot panels are sold separately. Joerns offers Traditional and Classical styles in several wood-grain finishes. Staff control mounts in the foot panel. If you want Gravity Assist or Trendelenburg, you need that staff panel, not only the hand control.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?
Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.
Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Joerns manufacturer warranty
Joerns' warranty for the original purchaser of the EasyCare, Model ECS, is 4 years on mechanical and electrical components, 15 years on steel structural components, and lifetime on welds (Joerns defines that lifetime as 20 years). DC batteries and pendants are covered for 90 days after delivery. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does OHIP cover hospital beds?
No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.
Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?
The Joerns EasyCare is full electric, so the hand control adjusts the back, the knee, and the height of the bed. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank. EasyCare has no crank.
How is the EasyCare different from the Joerns Care 100, UltraCare XT, and WeCare?
EasyCare is Joerns' 600 lb configurable long-term-care bed with a 7 to 30 inch travel range and AdvanceCare positioning. The Joerns Care 100 is the simpler Joerns sibling. The Joerns UltraCare XT is the 650 lb step-up. The Joerns WeCare is the split-frame Joerns bed, with a 450 lb safe working load and an 8 to 28 inch travel range on the full-electric model.
What mattress fits the Joerns EasyCare?
The standard sleep surface takes a 35 inch by 80 inch hospital-bed mattress at least 6 inches thick. If we open the deck to 39 or 42 inches, the mattress has to match that width. Length has to match the deck at 80, 84, or 88 inches. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure surface.
Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?
Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.
How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.
What is included with this Joerns EasyCare?
You get the Joerns EasyCare 600 lb full-electric frame with the AdvanceCare hand control, casters, mattress stops, and the EasyLift leg positioner. Rails, a mattress, and head and foot panels are added when you order. CareLock, width expansion, staff control, and the N111 battery are Joerns options.
What is the weight capacity of the Joerns EasyCare?
Joerns lists a maximum patient weight of 550 lbs and a safe working load of 600 lbs for the EasyCare 600 lb bed. The total includes the person, the mattress, the rails, and anything else on the bed. If the person is near that limit, ask us about the Joerns UltraCare XT instead of stretching this frame.
What happens if the power goes out?
There is no battery on the standard ECSBED-600 frame. The bed stays in the position it was in when the power stopped. Joerns sells an optional on-board battery, part N111, that can finish a move if the power is out. Ask us to add that kit if you need it. There is no emergency crank on this model.
What is the warranty on the Joerns EasyCare?
For the original purchaser, Joerns covers mechanical and electrical components for 4 years, steel structural components for 15 years, and welds for a lifetime that Joerns defines as 20 years. DC batteries and pendants are covered for 90 days. Those terms are printed on the Model ECS warranty sheet. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.
Can this bed roll at any height, and can it be made wider than 35 inches?
Roll-in-Low rolls only when the deck is low. Roll-at-any-Height with CareLock rolls across the published height range and locks with the two-pedal foot lock. Width expansion to 39 or 42 inches is a Care-Fit or CareWide option, not part of the bare 35 inch frame. Call us before you order if you need CareLock or a wider deck.
