The Domus 4 Edge is 5 Minds Mobility's AirCare surface: Domus-style alternating pressure and low air loss with 3-inch foam transfer edges. Permobil Canada distributes it. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

5 Minds' sell sheet titles it a True Low Air Loss System and lists a 450 lb weight limit, a 10-minute cycle, and a 36-month mattress warranty (6 months on the cover). It is for clients at medium to high risk of pressure injuries. It is not Wellell's stock Domus 4, and it is not a 1,300 LPM blower.

Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a person who needs alternating pressure and low air loss plus a firmer edge for getting on and off the bed. Families usually call us when transfers are part of every day and a therapist has asked for a transfer-edge air surface. The clinician who knows the person's skin still decides if this class is right.

Construction and how it works

This is a mattress replacement with 3-inch-wide foam transfer edges. Alternating pressure runs a 10-minute cycle. Low air loss vents air to help with moisture. Constant Low Pressure holds a static surface. Max Inflate firms the surface for a transfer. Seat inflation supports a Fowler (head-up) position. Weight references on the panel help the caregiver pick a comfort level.

Safety on the 5 Minds sheet includes a visible CPR valve, transport hold, a 5-minute auto-lock, and visual plus audible alarms. The cover is quilted and zippered for one-step removal. 5 Minds says the edge also reduces falls and entrapment. Do not treat that as a promise that a person cannot fall.

Domus 4 Edge specifications

These figures come from the 5 Minds sell sheet and from Motion Cares' Permobil listing. The specification tab holds the stored values. 5 Minds prints 80 inches by 36 inches by 7 inches, 450 lbs, 36 months on the mattress, and 6 months on the cover. Motion Cares prints 35.5 or 42 inches wide by 79 inches long by 8 inches high, 30 lbs, 450 lbs, and a 36-month warranty. We use 450 lbs and the 36 / 6 month split. We do not pick 7 inches versus 8 inches as a single stored height until the carton is checked.

Warranty for the original purchaser is 36 months on the mattress and 6 months on the cover on the 5 Minds sheet.

Width and Choose Mattress Width

Use Width or Choose Mattress Width to set 36" W or 42" W. Both options are the Edge system with transfer edges. A separate bolster that turns a 36-inch Domus 4 into a 48-inch surface is sold on some dealer pages; it is not a SKU on this picker. Ask us if you need 48 inches.

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. How is Domus 4 Edge different from stock Domus 4?

Both use alternating pressure and low air loss with a 10-minute cycle. Edge adds 3-inch foam transfer edges and is sold as 36 or 42 inches. Stock Domus 4 is Wellell's 36-inch 8-inch replacement without those foam edges.

Is this an overlay or a replacement?

A replacement with foam edges. The existing mattress comes off.

How do I clean the cover?

The quilted cover unzips for one-step removal. Follow the sheet that ships with the unit. Do not immerse the pump.

What is the weight rating?

5 Minds lists 450 lbs. Near that limit, do not stretch this surface.

What size bed does it fit?

Choose 36" W or 42" W. Match the bed deck. Length on the 5 Minds sheet is 80 inches (Motion prints 79 inches).

How loud is the pump?

Dealer copy calls the pump almost silent. 5 Minds does not print a decibel number on the sell sheet.

What is the warranty?

What happens if the power goes out?

5 Minds says the surface can stay inflated for transport. Treat that as a short hold, not a full-day therapy mode. The foam edges stay in place either way.
