Description

The R82 Caribou stander is R82's pediatric stander for prone, upright, or supine standing. R82 is an Etac brand. Westin Healthcare quotes it after a clinical assessment, then delivers and sets it up for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Etac designs the Caribou for children and adults who have a hard time holding a standing position, including people with limited head and trunk control. The frame tilts from vertical to horizontal so a caregiver can transfer the person, then bring them toward standing. The current lineup is sizes 1 to 4, each as a manual gas-spring tilt or a power actuator. There is no size 5 on the current Etac / R82 card.

Who this stander is for

This stander is for a child, or a smaller adult, whose occupational therapist or physiotherapist has asked for a multi-position standing frame. Families usually call us when a therapist has named the Caribou, or when they need a quote that can travel with an ADP assessment. We do not size this product from a photo. The therapist measures the person, then we quote the size, the tilt, and the accessories.

  • Children who need prone, upright, or supine standing in one frame
  • Homes and clinics that transfer with a floor hoist: Etac designs the raised frame for a floor hoist
  • Caregivers who want both hands free while the tilt moves, on the gas-spring or the power actuator

R82 writes that a caregiver must stay with the person in the frame. The product is for indoor use. The person must not occupy the Caribou in a motor vehicle. If the therapist named a different R82 stander, such as the Gazelle PS, Meerkat, or Rabbit Up, call us and we will check what we can quote.

How it stands

The Caribou uses a soft mouldable PU body support. Extra wedges shape that PU to the person. Smooth edges are part of the design. Accessories swap without rebuilding the frame.

The tilt runs from vertical to horizontal. Etac prints an angling range of 0 to 87 degrees on the current size table. The horizontal position is how most transfers happen. A floor hoist can pass under the raised frame. The caregiver then brings the person toward standing with the gas spring or the power handset.

Power versions use a 24 V battery pack. Etac's manual says to charge the batteries 12 hours before first use, keep them on charge as often as possible, and charge at least every third month. The power duty cycle is 10 percent use, then rest. We will show you the handset and the charger at setup.

Sizes and fit

The current Caribou is sold in four sizes. Pick the size from the person's height and mass, not from age. Etac's current inch table:

  • Size 1 (860101 / 860101-EL): user height 33.5 to 44 in (85 to 112 cm), max user mass 88.1 lb (40 kg), frame width 20 in
  • Size 2 (860102 / 860102-EL): user height 38.5 to 50.75 in (98 to 129 cm), max user mass 132.2 lb (60 kg), frame width 22.5 in
  • Size 3 (860113 / 860103-EL): user height 49.25 to 61.50 in (125 to 156 cm), max user mass 176.3 lb (80 kg), frame width 25.5 in
  • Size 4 (860114 / 860104-EL): user height 60.25 to 72.50 in (153 to 184 cm), max user mass 220.4 lb (100 kg), frame width 29.5 in

The Canada dealer order form lists a power actuator as recommended on sizes 3 and 4. The live Etac card also shows power item numbers on sizes 1 and 2. We will quote the tilt the therapist asked for. Frame colours on the current card are yellow (size 1), red (size 2), blue (size 3), and anthracite grey (size 4).

R82 warns that if the person is close to the maximum load, or has a lot of involuntary movement, a larger size or a different R82 product should be considered. We follow that note.

R82 Caribou Stander specifications

These figures are from Etac's current R82 Caribou card and user manual M1125 Rev 14.0 (2025-10-29). The specification tab holds the stored values.

Angling 0 to 87 degrees on all four sizes. Foot-plate angle minus 20 to plus 20 degrees. Static stability 5 degrees downhill, sideways, and uphill. Length 29.5 in on size 1, 36.25 in on size 2, and 43.75 in on sizes 3 and 4. Overall height in the horizontal position is 27.5 in on sizes 1 and 2, and 31.5 in on sizes 3 and 4. Maximum rated load (frame plus person plus accessories) runs from 137.7 lb on size 1 up to 306.4 lb on size 4 with power. Frame mass runs from 45.1 lb on size 1 up to 81.6 lb on size 4 with power.

Intended lifetime is 8 years if service follows the manual. R82's published warranty is 2 years against defects in workmanship and materials, and 5 years on breakage of the metal frame caused by defects in welds. Yearly inspection is recommended. The frame can be machine-washed at 60 C after accessories and the power pack come off.

Accessories we quote with the frame

The Caribou is a configured product. The Canada order form treats the base, the lower-body pad, the chest pad, and the footrest as required selections. Common accessories on the current Etac card include a head-support plate, trunk support / chest pad, extra cushions, shoulder supports for supine standing, a sacral back support, chest strap, lateral straps, removable laterals, cross straps, wedges for the side slots, knee supports, trays, and vests. We will not guess the accessory list. The therapist's measurements write the quote.

Which standing or transfer product this is

Stay with the Caribou when the therapist wants one frame for prone, upright, and supine standing, with a horizontal transfer and a floor-hoist clearance. Use a floor lift when the need is a sling transfer, not a standing program:

R82 also makes the Gazelle PS, Meerkat, and Rabbit Up. We do not publish those as store pages here. Ask us if the therapist named one of them instead of the Caribou.

Funding help for a pediatric stander in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) lists pediatric walkers, standers, and strollers as funded mobility aids. ADP can fund 75% of the cost of a pediatric stander when it is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full client share. Not every product or situation qualifies, so talk to us and the child's therapy team before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), Easter Seals Ontario, and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this stander across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble the quoted size, and show you the tilt, the brakes, and the accessories before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a stander first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Purchased standers are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Pediatric standers are oversized configured equipment. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the stander is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the stander needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

R82 manufacturer warranty

R82's published warranty is 2 years against defects in workmanship and materials, and 5 years on breakage of the metal frame caused by defects in welds. The manual states an 8 year intended lifetime when service follows the instructions. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does ADP cover a pediatric stander in Ontario?

Ontario lists pediatric walkers, standers, and strollers among mobility aids. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses the child. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will talk through the funding route before anyone orders a Caribou.

What sizes does the R82 Caribou come in?

The current R82 Caribou is sold in sizes 1 to 4. Size 1 fits about 33.5 to 44 inches of user height. Size 4 fits about 60.25 to 72.50 inches. There is no size 5 on the current Etac card. The therapist's measurements pick the size.

Is the Caribou a prone stander or a supine stander?

The R82 Caribou supports prone, upright, and supine standing in one frame. Shoulder supports are listed especially for supine standing. The therapist decides which position the child uses and which accessories go on the quote.

Can a floor lift transfer someone into the Caribou?

Yes. Etac designs the Caribou with a raised frame for a floor hoist, and the frame tilts to horizontal for the transfer. We will confirm the hoist, the sling, and the room layout on the quote.

Is there a power tilt on the Caribou?

Yes. The current card offers a foot-operated gas spring or a power actuator. The Canada order form recommends the power actuator on sizes 3 and 4. We quote the tilt the therapist asked for.

What is the weight capacity of the R82 Caribou?

Maximum user mass on the current card is 88.1 lb (40 kg) on size 1, 132.2 lb (60 kg) on size 2, 176.3 lb (80 kg) on size 3, and 220.4 lb (100 kg) on size 4. The maximum rated load on the frame is higher because it includes accessories. Stay inside the user-mass figure for the person.

Does the Caribou grow with the child?

Each Caribou size has a height band and a set of interchangeable accessories. When the child outgrows that band, the next size is a different frame, not a bolt-on extension. The therapist will tell us when it is time to requote.

Is the Caribou only for children?

R82's manual says the Caribou is a standing frame for children and adults with disabilities. Size 4 goes to about 72.50 inches of user height and 220.4 lb. Most families reach us for a pediatric standing program. Adults still get a clinical quote.

Can the Caribou go in a car with the child in it?

No. R82 states the person must not occupy the product in a motor vehicle, and must not occupy it while it is moved into or out of a vehicle by a lift. An unoccupied Caribou can travel by land or air. We will talk through transport when we book delivery.

What is included with the R82 Caribou?

You get the quoted size of the Caribou frame, with the tilt (gas spring or power) and the accessories on the quote. There is no single stock package. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets up across Brampton and the GTA.

What is the warranty on the R82 Caribou?

R82 covers defects in workmanship and materials for 2 years, and breakage of the metal frame caused by defects in welds for 5 years. Westin Healthcare processes the claim through our service and repairs page.
