Description

The Joerns Care 100 is Joerns Healthcare's full-electric low hospital bed. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The six-function pendant moves the back section, the knee section, and the height of the bed.

Joerns lists two mobility setups on this frame. Roll-in-low rolls when the deck is at 8.75 inches. Roll-at-any-height rolls across the 8.75 inch to 26 inch range. Safe working load is 450 lbs for the person, the mattress, the bedding, and anything else on the bed. The sleep surface is 35 inches by 80 inches. A CareWide kit, ordered separately, takes the width to 39 inches or 42 inches.

Who this bed is for

This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home or in a care room and wants a Joerns tubular low frame with electric back, knee, and height from one pendant. Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for a low transfer height with a higher working height for linen changes.

If you want Joerns' current configurable long-term-care frame, with a 7 inch to 30 inch travel range and a 600 lb working load, see the Joerns EasyCare. If you need the higher-capacity Joerns frame with AdvanceCare positioning, see the Joerns UltraCare XT. If you want Joerns' split-frame low bed, see the Joerns WeCare super-low bed.

  • Home care, where the bed has to work in a bedroom and sit at 8.75 inches for transfers
  • Long-term care when a 450 lb Joerns tubular low frame is enough
  • Anyone who needs electric back, knee, and height from one pendant, with an optional staff lockout at the foot panel

What you get

The Joerns Care 100 is a full-electric low bed. Four DC motors move the back, the knee, and the two hi-lo legs. The standard control is a six-function snap-in pendant with raised, high-contrast buttons. The pendant can clip to a Joerns assist device so the person or the caregiver can reach it from either side.

Westin's SKU C100P-DE is the Joerns Care 100 bed frame with head and foot panels. Rails, a mattress, staff control, battery backup, and the CareWide width kit are not in the box. Call (905) 451-7743 if you need those pieces with the bed.

  • Six-function pendant for back, knee, and height
  • Tubular steel frame with a SoftTone finish
  • Therapeutic grid sleep surface in three sections
  • Mattress stops at the head and foot
  • Four IV sockets (two at the head, two at the foot)
  • Baseboard bumper
  • Heavy-duty casters, with a roll-in-low or roll-at-any-height setup
  • Head panel that lifts off for CPR
  • ETL listing to UL 60601-1 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 601.1, plus IEC 60601-2-38

Battery backup is an option, not standard equipment. If the power is out and no backup battery is fitted, the bed stays where it is until power returns or a technician moves it. Ask us if you want the Joerns 24V backup kit with the order.

Joerns Care 100 specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU C100P-DE, the Joerns Care 100 full-electric low bed. The specification tab holds the stored values. Joerns' Care 100 brochure prints a sleep surface of 35 inches by 80 inches, a low height of 8.75 inches, a high height of 26 inches, an 18 inch under-bed clearance, a 165 lb product weight, and a 450 lb safe working load. The user-service manual prints the same height range and working load, an 80 inch model size of 86.9 inches long by 35.0 inches wide by 8.75 inches high, and a 172 lb weight. Copy uses the brochure 165 lb figure and the shared 8.75 inch to 26 inch height.

Overall length with the head panel only is 83.5 inches. With head and foot panels it is 85.5 inches. Width is 35 inches. With assist-device brackets Joerns prints 36.25 inches. With assist devices on, 41 inches. The CareWide width kit, ordered separately, takes the surface to 39 inches or 42 inches. Maximum back angle is 70 degrees to horizontal.

Warranty for the original purchaser is 7 years on steel structural components, 1 year on mechanical and electrical components, lifetime on welds (Joerns prints a 12-year intended life for those welds), and 90 days on wear parts such as DC batteries.

Rails, mattress, and other Care 100 options

This listing is sold as the Joerns Care 100 frame with head and foot panels. There are no rail or mattress selectors on the order form. Joerns designed the assist devices and mattresses that fit this frame. Call (905) 451-7743 before you order if you need rails, a surface, a wider deck, staff lockout, or battery backup.

Assist devices and rails

Joerns lists an Assist Device and an Assist Handle for this bed. The Assist Device is a low-profile half-length rail meant to help someone turn or sit up. The Assist Handle is a grip for getting in and out of bed. Joerns' user-service manual says to use Joerns assist devices sized for this frame, and to keep the gap between the mattress and the device small enough that a head or neck cannot catch. Rails are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint and they are not a handle unless the device is the Assist Handle Joerns designed for transfers. If a therapist asked for a specific rail style, call us with that note.

Mattress

Joerns recommends a mattress at least 35 inches wide and 6 inches high, with a length that matches the 80 inch deck. The mattress must stay centred so the person cannot slip into a gap. Joerns' Care 100 brochure names PrevaMatt foam surfaces (Deluxe and Elite, with or without TEMPUR material) and the rest of the Joerns foam, air/foam, and powered therapy line. We also stock other 35 inch and 36 inch hospital-bed surfaces. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure system. Powered air surfaces can change the gap at the rail, so the mattress and the assist device have to be chosen together.

Other factory options

  • Roll-in-low or roll-at-any-height casters. Tell us which setup you need when we book delivery.
  • Optional staff control in the foot panel, which can lock out back, knee, or height on the pendant.
  • Optional 24V battery backup (charger, battery, and wall bracket).
  • CareWide width kit for 39 inches or 42 inches.
  • IV rod, transport push bar, and 2 inch floor mat.
  • Head and foot panel designs and finishes. The stock finish on the frame is SoftTone.

Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.

Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?

Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.

Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Joerns manufacturer warranty

Joerns' warranty for the original purchaser of the Care 100 is 7 years on steel structural components, 1 year on mechanical and electrical components, lifetime on welds (Joerns prints a 12-year intended life for those welds), and 90 days on wear parts such as DC batteries. Damage from misuse, unsuitable conditions, or unauthorised repair is not covered. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does OHIP cover hospital beds?

No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.

Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.

What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?

The Joerns Care 100 is full electric, so the pendant adjusts the back, the knee, and the height of the bed. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank. This Joerns frame does not use a hand crank for everyday height.

How is the Care 100 different from the Joerns EasyCare and the UltraCare XT?

The Care 100 is Joerns' older tubular low bed: 8.75 inches to 26 inches, 450 lb safe working load, three-section grid deck. The Joerns EasyCare is the current configurable Joerns long-term-care frame, 7 inches to 30 inches, 600 lb working load. The Joerns UltraCare XT is the higher-capacity Joerns frame with AdvanceCare positioning. The Joerns WeCare is the current split-frame Joerns low bed still listed on joerns.com.

What mattress fits the Joerns Care 100?

Joerns recommends a mattress at least 35 inches wide and 6 inches high, with a length that matches the 80 inch deck. Keep the mattress centred. Joerns names PrevaMatt foam surfaces for this frame. We can also fit other 35 inch or 36 inch hospital-bed mattresses, including foam and alternating-pressure systems. Ask your therapist before you pick a powered air surface.

Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?

Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.

How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.

What is included with this Joerns Care 100?

You get the Joerns Care 100 full-electric low frame with headboard and footboard, the six-function pendant, mattress stops, four IV sockets, casters, and the baseboard bumper. Rails, a mattress, staff control, battery backup, and the CareWide width kit are ordered separately.

What is the weight capacity of the Joerns Care 100?

Joerns lists a 450 lb safe working load for the Care 100. That total includes the person, the mattress, the bedding, and any accessories on the bed. If the person is near that limit, or you need a wider sleep deck as standard, ask us about a higher-capacity Joerns frame instead of stretching this one.

What happens if the power goes out?

Battery backup is optional on this model. If the 24V backup kit is fitted and charged, Joerns says one battery can typically raise and lower the bed 20 to 25 times. Without that kit the pendant will not move the bed until power returns. There is no hand crank on the Care 100.

What is the warranty on the Joerns Care 100?

For the original purchaser, Joerns covers steel structural components for 7 years, mechanical and electrical components for 1 year, welds for the lifetime of the product (12-year intended life), and wear parts such as DC batteries for 90 days. Those terms are printed on Joerns' Care 100 warranty sheet and in the user-service manual. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.

What is the difference between roll-in-low and roll-at-any-height?

Roll-in-low rolls when the deck is at 8.75 inches. You lock the casters to keep the bed still. Roll-at-any-height sits on stationary legs at the lowest position and rolls when you raise the bed. Tell us which setup you need when we book delivery. The bed is not a transport device. Joerns says not to roll it over thresholds with someone in it.
