Description
The Handicare SlingBar L is Handicare's two-point aluminium sling bar in the 60 cm width, manufacturer code 70200003, rated 300 kg (660 lb). It is the bar the sling hangs from, and the width you choose decides how open or how closed the sling sits around the user. Westin Healthcare ships it across Canada and our technicians can fit it on a service visit across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
This is the wide bar. Handicare states that SlingBar L is appropriate for patients who require more space in the sling, and names patients who are sensitive to pressure, broad-shouldered or obese. It is the bar that ships fitted on Eva600, so on that lift this listing is the replacement or the spare.
What a sling bar does
A two-point sling bar is the crossbar between the lift arm and the sling. The sling's straps go over the hooks at each end, and the distance between those hooks is the whole design decision. Set them close together and the sling closes around the user and holds them more upright. Set them far apart and the sling opens out, gives more room, and lets the user sit back further.
Handicare builds one bar in four widths and rates every one of them at 300 kg (660 lb), so the choice is about fit and comfort rather than capacity. Both lift hooks carry safety latches, which Handicare describes as preventing the sling straps from creeping out of the sling bar. The bar is aluminium.
This is the bar the Eva600 already wears. Handicare states that all variants of Eva600 are equipped with a wider sling bar, SlingBar L at 600 mm / 23.6 in, providing a more open lifting sling and increased room, which is suitable for larger and heavier users. On that lift this listing is the spare or the replacement. On an Eva400, Eva450 or Carina350, which ship with the M bar, it is a deliberate step up in width.
The four widths, and what Handicare says each is for
| Code | Model | Width | Handicare's stated use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 70200071 | SlingBar XS | 250 mm (25 cm / 9.8 in) | Children, slim patients, gait training |
| 70200001 | SlingBar S | 350 mm (35 cm / 13.8 in) | Children, slim patients, gait training |
| 70200002 | SlingBar M | 450 mm (45 cm / 17.7 in) | Most types of transfers |
| 70200003 | SlingBar L | 600 mm (60 cm / 23.6 in) | Patients who need more room in the sling |
We list the S, the M and the L. The XS is published by Handicare but is not on our catalogue; ask us if you need it. Remember the rule Handicare prints in every manual: different products in the same lift system may have different allowable safe working loads, and the lowest one determines the safe working load of the whole assembly. Check the lift, the bar and the sling before every use.
Which lifts it fits
Handicare's instructions for use state that SlingBar is a series of sling bars for use in combination with mobile or stationary lifts approved by the manufacturer, and that all four variants can be used with all Handicare mobile lifts and stationary ceiling lift units. It is printed in the accessory tables of the lifts we stock.
The Handicare floor lifts we sell are the Eva600EE, the Eva450EE with low legs, the Carina350EE and the Carina350EM. The whole range sits on the patient lifts hub. Tell us which lift you have and we will confirm the bar before anything ships.

Handicare does not publish a weight, a hook opening dimension or a material grade for this bar, so none is claimed here. What is published is the width, the rating, the material, the safety latches and the fitment, and that is what the table above carries. If you need a mechanical detail for a facility record, ask us and we will request it from the manufacturer.
Fitting it
The bar bolts to the link on the lift arm. Handicare's instructions for use list the same hardware for mobile lifts and for stationary lift units: one M8x50 screw, one M8 nut, one 10/8x38 sleeve, two M10 cover cap washers and two M10 cover caps, fitted with a 13 mm spanner.
If you swap bars often, ask us about SwiftHook (70200008), Handicare's quick coupling for SlingBar S, M and L and for the StretcherBar. Handicare says it makes changing sling bars or connecting a scale very easy, which matters on a floor that also runs a lift scale.
Our technicians can fit the bar on a service visit across Brampton and the GTA and check the lift, the sling and the latches while they are there. Book through service and repairs or call (905) 451-7743.
The rest of the SlingBar range
Each width is its own product here so the code you buy is the code that ships:
- The SlingBar S, 350 mm (35 cm / 13.8 in), which Handicare calls suitable for children, slim patients and gait training.
- The SlingBar M, 450 mm (45 cm / 17.7 in), which Handicare calls suitable for most types of transfers and fits as standard on Eva400, Eva450 and Carina350.
Accessories for all three: the SlingBarSpreader M side bars, which open the sling out further and are supplied in pairs, and the SlingBarWrap, a soft Velcro-fastened protection for the middle of the bar. For horizontal lifting the bar changes entirely: that is the StretcherBar, ten suspension points, used with a stretcher sling.
Slings and scales to order with it
The bar is quoted separately from the sling so the sling can be sized to the person. Our full-body slings include the Handicare Universal Sling and the hammock sling, and the whole range sits under full body slings. Ask our staff to confirm the size before you order.
If the floor also weighs users on the lift, the Charder MHS2500 lift scale hangs between the lift and the bar. Other spare parts and lift hardware sit on the lift parts shelf.

Handicare inspection and warranty position
Handicare's SlingBar instructions for use ask for a visual inspection of the condition and function of the product on a regular basis: check that the material is free from damage, and discard the product if there are signs of wear. The periodic inspection should be performed at the timestamps the manufacturer states, and at least every six months to be sure, more often if the product is used or cleaned more often than advised.
Handicare gives an expected lifetime that depends on how the product is used, and does not print a year count in the instructions for use. Ask us for the terms that ship with your order and we will handle a claim with you.
Clean the sling bar with warm water or rubbing alcohol when necessary. Do not use cleaning agents containing phenol or chlorine: Handicare warns that they can damage the material.
Frequently asked questions
What does the width actually change?
How open the sling sits. A wider bar pulls the sling's shoulder straps further apart, which opens the sling out and gives the user more room and a more reclined position. A narrower bar closes the sling in around them. Handicare's own guidance is that SlingBar S suits children, slim patients and gait training, SlingBar M suits most types of transfers, and SlingBar L suits patients who need more space in the sling, including patients who are sensitive to pressure, broad-shouldered or obese.
Does the width change the weight rating?
No. Handicare rates every SlingBar variant at 300 kg (660 lb), from the 250 mm XS to the 600 mm L. What does change the rating of the whole system is the rest of the assembly: Handicare states that different products on the same lift system may have different allowable safe working loads, and that the lowest one always determines the safe working load of the assembled system. Check the lift, the bar and the sling before every use.
Which lifts does it fit?
Handicare's instructions for use say SlingBar is for use with mobile or stationary lifts approved by the manufacturer, and the product documentation says all variants can be used with all Handicare mobile lifts and stationary ceiling lift units. It is listed as an accessory on the Eva and Carina350 lifts we stock. Tell us which lift you have and we will confirm it before anything ships.
My Eva600 already has a SlingBar L. Why would I buy another?
Because it is the bar that wears and the bar that gets damaged, and Handicare's own instruction is to discard the product at the first sign of wear. A floor running several lifts wants a spare on the shelf rather than a lift out of service. This listing is also how you widen a lift that was ordered with the M bar.
Can I get more room without going up a size?
Yes, up to a point. SlingBarSpreader M side bars (70200042) hook onto a SlingBar and open the sling out further, giving a more reclined position. Handicare supplies them in pairs and states they may only be used in pairs. They are the answer when a size step would be too much.
What if the user has uncontrolled movements?
Handicare makes a soft protection for the middle of the bar, the SlingBarWrap (70200009), which it says protects the patient's head in the event of impact with the mid-section of the sling bar. It fastens with Velcro and comes off for cleaning. It suits users in slings that hold an upright seated posture, or users who tend to tilt forward.
How is it fitted to the lift?
With a single M8 bolt through the link on the lift arm. Handicare's instructions for use list the hardware for both mobile lifts and stationary lift units as one M8x50 screw, one M8 nut, one 10/8x38 sleeve, two M10 cover cap washers and two M10 cover caps, with a 13 mm spanner. Our technicians can do it on a service visit and check the lift at the same time.
How often does it need inspecting?
Handicare asks for regular visual checks that the material is free from damage and that nothing is worn, with the product discarded if there are signs of wear, and for a periodic inspection at the timestamps the manufacturer states, at least every six months to be sure. More often if it is used or cleaned more often than advised.
How do I clean it?
Warm water or rubbing alcohol when necessary. Handicare specifically warns against cleaning agents containing phenol or chlorine, because they can damage the material.
Does a sling come with it?
No. The bar is quoted on its own so the sling can be sized to the person and matched to the task. Handicare's SystemRoMedic range covers most transfer situations in sizes from XXS upward. Ask our staff to confirm the sling model and size before you order.
Can I swap bars quickly between lifts?
Handicare makes a quick coupling for exactly that. SwiftHook (70200008) is listed for SlingBar S, M and L and for the StretcherBar, and Handicare says it makes changing sling bars or connecting a scale very easy. Ask us about it if you run more than one bar across a floor.
