Description
The Handicare Bure Standard Gait Training Kit is Direct Healthcare Group's support harness for walking practice in a Bure walker, manufacturer code 56-388. Four blue straps run from the harness to steel carabiner clips, and those clip to metal mounts under the table of the walker so the user is held while they walk. Westin Healthcare ships it across Canada and delivers it across Brampton and the GTA.
This is the complete harness, not a conversion kit. It needs no separate belt. Read the section below on the two Bure gait training products before you order, because the code one hyphen away is a different part for a different walker.
What it does
A Bure walker gives the user their arms to lean on. It does not catch them. For early mobilization work, where the point of the session is to have somebody on their feet who is not yet steady on them, that gap is the whole problem: the therapist ends up spotting with their own body, and the session is limited by what one person can safely hold.
This harness closes the gap. The user wears it, four straps run out to the frame, and the walker itself takes the load if the knees go. The therapist's hands are free to work on the gait rather than on the catch.
The manufacturer is precise about the boundary, and prints it as a standing instruction: the intended use of the trainer support harness is to practise walking, and it is not a sitting or a lifting aid. It will hold somebody who stumbles. It is not there to take their weight for a transfer, and it must not be used to hoist.
How it goes on
The manufacturer's sequence is short and the order matters, because two of the four clips go on after the user is standing.
- The harness has four blue straps. Each carries a plastic buckle for length adjustment and a steel carabiner clip at the end.
- Clip the two front carabiners to the front mounts, one on each side of the table.
- Stand the user up in the walker.
- Pull the harness back between the legs and clip the remaining carabiners to the rear mounts, one on each side.
- Adjust the harness to the user by pulling in the back strap loops.
The clips land on metal mounts fitted under the table of the walker. Check them, and the straps, before every session. The general Bure inspection rule covers textiles as well as steel: look for frays, loose stitches, damage to the fabric, edging, handles and broken buckles, and if any of those appear the product should be discarded.
Which walker it fits
Direct Healthcare Group's fitment matrix lists the standard gait training kit against the conventional Bure walkers and not against the power rise machines.
| Bure walker | Fits this part | Sold by Westin |
|---|---|---|
| Bure Double 2.0 | Yes | Yes |
| Bure Standard, Bure S | Yes | No |
| Bure Low, Bure Low S | Yes | No |
| Bure Space | Yes | No |
| Bure Rise & Go, Rise & Go DB | No, takes 56-388-KIT plus a Belt MULTI | Rise & Go DB yes |
| Bure XL | No | Yes |
Of the walkers Westin sells, this kit fits the Bure Double 2.0. If your Bure is a Rise & Go DB, this is the wrong part and you want 56-388-KIT with a Belt MULTI instead. If it is a Bure XL, the manufacturer does not list a gait training kit for it at all.
Two Bure gait training kits, and how to tell them apart
Direct Healthcare Group makes two gait training products for the Bure range and the codes sit one hyphen apart. Ordering the wrong one is the single most common mistake on this part, so it is worth thirty seconds.
| Code | What it is | Needs a Belt MULTI | Walkers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 56-388 | Standard gait training kit: a support harness on four blue straps with steel carabiners | No, it is the harness | Bure Standard, Bure S, Bure Low, Bure Space, Bure Double 2.0 |
| 56-388-KIT | Rise & Go gait training kit: straps and hooks that convert a Belt MULTI into a gait training harness | Yes | Bure Rise & Go, Bure Rise & Go DB |
The rule of thumb: if your walker has a power rise function, you have a Rise & Go and you want 56-388-KIT plus a belt. If it does not, you want 56-388 on its own. Call (905) 451-7743 with the serial number and we will confirm it before anything ships.

The manufacturer's care instruction for the gait training harness is brief and worth following: read the product label, do not use rinsing agent, and avoid tumble-drying to prolong the life of the product. Bure textiles carry an expected service life of about two years under normal use, which the manufacturer counts as two wash cycles a week, so a harness in institutional laundry will need replacing sooner than one in a single home.
Related parts and walkers
The walker this kit fits, out of what Westin stocks, is the Bure Double 2.0. It sits with the rest of our transfer equipment on the patient lifts hub.
For the power rise machines, the equivalent products are the Bure Rise & Go gait training kit and a Bure Rise & Go Belt MULTI in S, M, L or XL.
Also useful on a walker doing gait work: the Bure lower leg support for the shins and the Bure side support for a user who lists to one side. Other harnesses are on the walking support slings shelf, and other Bure hardware on the lift parts shelf.

Warranty and inspection
Direct Healthcare Group states in the Bure instructions for use that the warranty applies only if repairs or alterations are made by personnel authorized by Direct Healthcare Group, and that repairs and maintenance may only be done by authorized personnel using original spare parts. No year count is printed in the manual, so ask us for the current terms that ship with your serial number and we will handle a claim with you.
The manufacturer also requires the walker to undergo a thorough inspection at least once every twelve months, performed by authorized personnel and in accordance with Direct Healthcare Group's instructions. Accessories are part of that inspection: the manual tells you to verify that any accessory fitted to the walker is properly attached before use, and to test it against the user's needs and functional ability. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or the facility.
Frequently asked questions
Which walker does this fit?
The Bure Standard, Bure S, Bure Low, Bure Low S, Bure Space and Bure Double 2.0. Of those, Westin stocks the Bure Double 2.0. It does not fit a Bure Rise & Go, a Rise & Go DB or a Bure XL.
What is the difference between 56-388 and 56-388-KIT?
56-388 is this product: a complete support harness for the conventional Bure walkers, needing no separate belt. 56-388-KIT is a conversion kit for the power rise walkers that only works with a Bure Rise & Go Belt MULTI. Different walkers, different parts.
Can I use it to lift or to seat somebody?
No, and the manufacturer says so directly: the intended use of the trainer support harness is to practise walking, and it is not a sitting or a lifting aid. Use a lift and a sling for a transfer.
How does it attach to the walker?
Four steel carabiner clips on the ends of four blue straps clip to metal mounts placed under the table of the walker, two at the front and two at the rear.
What is the order of fitting?
Clip the two front carabiners on first, then stand the user in the walker, then pull the harness back between the legs and clip the rear carabiners on. Adjust by pulling in the back strap loops.
Does it come in sizes?
The current accessory lists carry one code, 56-388, with no size suffix. Older manufacturer literature showed a sized range. If sizing matters for your user, call (905) 451-7743 and we will confirm with Savaria before we order.
How is it washed?
Read the product label first. The manufacturer's instruction is not to use rinsing agent, and to avoid tumble-drying so the product lasts longer.
How long does it last?
Bure textile products carry an expected service life of about two years under normal use, which the manufacturer defines as two wash cycles a week. Inspect it after every wash and discard it if you find frays, loose stitches, fabric or edging damage or a broken buckle.
Does it change the weight limit of the walker?
No. The Bure walkers are rated 150 kg (330 lb) for the patient, and the lowest rating in an assembly governs the whole assembly.
My walker does not have the mounts under the table. What now?
Call us with the model and serial number. The mounts are part of the walker's build and we will check what your machine has before anything ships.
