What a transfer plate is for

A Bure walker does three jobs: it stands the person up, it supports them while they walk, and it moves them from one room to another. The transfer plate is what makes the third job possible. The user's feet go on the plate instead of on the floor, so a caregiver can wheel them along a corridor without asking them to take a single step.

The plate hooks onto the main frame of the walker. The manufacturer's fitting instruction is one sentence long: attach the standing plate by the hooks on the main frame of the walker. It comes off the same way when the walker is being used purely for walking practice, and the manual tells you to swing the shin supports aside for more walking room once the plate is off.

Short and long, with castors or without

Direct Healthcare Group builds the Bure plate in a small grid, and the code you order decides all three of the variables. Get one wrong and the plate will not hook on.

• Short or long. The short plate is the compact one. The long plate gives more foot room and a longer stance.
• With castors or without. The manufacturer's own footnote in the accessory matrix reads: /SW is variant with castors. A plate with the SW suffix carries its own castors, so its weight goes onto the floor rather than being cantilevered off the walker frame. Savaria lists that variant as the swivel wheels version.
• Which chassis. The suffix after the number is the walker family. DB is the double actuator chassis, which is the Bure Rise & Go DB and the Bure Double 2.0. STD is the Bure Standard, Bure S, Bure Low and the single-actuator Bure Rise & Go. SPACE is the Bure Space. Bure XL has a plate of its own, 56-386.

Handicare Bure DB Transfer Plate, Short specifications

Direct Healthcare Group rates the plate at the same 150 kg (330 lb) as the walker itself. The rule the manufacturer prints in the manual still applies: check that any accessory fitted to the walker is properly attached before use, and never leave the user alone during a transfer. The walker and everything on it is for indoor use.

Short plate or long plate

Both plates do the same job and the difference is foot room. The short plate keeps the overall footprint of the walker down, which matters in a bathroom or a tight resident room, and it is easier to lift on and off single-handed. The long plate gives a wider stance and more room for large feet or for a person who cannot bring their feet close together.

If the plate is going on and off several times a shift, the short one is easier to live with. If it is staying on and the walker is mostly used for transits, the long one is more comfortable to stand on. Ask us and we will talk it through against the person and the room.

Warranty and inspection

Direct Healthcare Group states in the Bure instructions for use that the warranty applies only if repairs or alterations are made by personnel authorized by Direct Healthcare Group, and that repairs and maintenance may only be done by authorized personnel using original spare parts. No year count is printed in the manual, so ask us for the current terms that ship with your serial number and we will handle a claim with you.

The manufacturer also requires the walker to undergo a thorough inspection at least once every twelve months, performed by authorized personnel and in accordance with Direct Healthcare Group's instructions. Accessories are part of that inspection: the manual tells you to verify that any accessory fitted to the walker is properly attached before use, and to test it against the user's needs and functional ability.
