Handicare Universal Sling

The Handicare Universal Sling is the classic seated sling now listed by Savaria Patient Care. It is a loop sling with a commode opening, divided or closed legs, and colour-coded loops. Quilted articles 517305 to 517350 are rated at 1000 lb. Westin Healthcare sells it in Brampton and fits it across the Greater Toronto Area on Handicare ceiling lifts and the Carina floor lift.

Westin stocks the Universal family, not a single part number. We will pick the fabric and size with you. If you need a Human Care E-clip sling, that is a different attachment. See the Human Care Full Body Sling E-clip only when the bar is a mushroom fastener.

Who this sling is for

Savaria describes the Universal as a multi-purpose seated sling for bed, wheelchair, floor, and toilet transfers. Leg straps can sit divided or closed. Optional head support is a sibling product on Savaria's card. Built-in caregiver handles help guide the transfer. This is not a sit-to-stand sling.

Sizing

Savaria prints a nominal size chart on the quilted family. Those measures are a guide within about 1 inch. Other fabrics have their own sheets. Confirm the size with a clinician or our staff before first use.

PolySlip, mesh/poly, and spacer use 8Axxxx numbers. Polyester mesh uses M921501-XS through XXL. Padded XXL is 527350. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will match the selector to one of those articles.

Attachment and compatible lifts

The Universal Sling is a loop sling. The quilted spec sheet shows three loops on each strap. It does not use Human Care E-clips.

On our floor it belongs on a Handicare loop carry bar: the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, the Handicare A450, or the two-point SlingBar on the Handicare Carina 350. Shop the family in universal slings. Do not put this sling on a Human Care mushroom bar.

Handicare Universal Sling specifications

The model is the Handicare / Savaria Universal Sling (also called Quick Fit or horseshoe). Quilted 517xxx is 1000 lb. Mesh M921501 has body and sling measures on its sheet and does not print SWL there. Spacer, PolySlip, and mesh/poly each have their own Canto sheet. Head support is a separate Savaria product when you need it.

Care and laundering

Savaria says the Universal is built for frequent use and routine laundering, including tumble drying. Follow the sling label and the instruction sheet for the article you receive (517xxx, 8Axxxx, or M921501). Inspect loops and seams after every wash.

Delivery in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team can deliver this sling across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, on its own or with a Handicare lift setup. This is a small carton. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods can apply when it ships without a lift. If it travels with a patient lift, the lift is oversized and White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Warranty

When something on the sling needs work, you call the shop that sold it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department.

Handicare / Savaria manufacturer warranty

Savaria Patient Care's current Universal card does not print a simple year-count warranty. Ask us for the warranty that ships with your article. We handle the claim with you.

Is this a loop sling or an E-clip sling?

What is the safe working load?

Quilted 517xxx is 1000 lb on every size. Other fabrics follow their own sheet. The finished system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, bar, and sling.

Which size should I order?

Use the quilted chart as a starting point, then confirm with a clinician or our staff before first use. We will match the selector to one manufacturer article.

Does it fit a C450 or A450?

Yes. Those Handicare motors use loop carry-bar hooks. It also fits the Carina 350 SlingBar. It does not fit a Human Care E-clip bar.

Does head support come on every sling?

No. Savaria lists Universal with head support as a sibling product. Tell us if the person needs head support and we will order that article.

How do I wash it?

Follow the sling label and the IFU for that part-number family. Savaria's card names routine laundering, including tumble drying.

Does funding cover a sling in Ontario?

Slings follow the funding path of the lift they are used with. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check the Handicare lift and the sling together.
