Description

The Handicare Band Sling is a loop band that holds an arm or a leg so staff can dress a wound, wash, change a dressing, or work through a range-of-motion task. Handicare makes it. Savaria Patient Care lists it. Westin Healthcare quotes it and fits it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area on a loop carry bar.

This is a limb-support sling, not a seated full-body transfer sling. If the person needs to move from bed to chair, start with the Handicare Universal Sling. If you need the Medcare wrap-style limb strap in 6 in or 12 in, that is a different brand line: see the Medcare Limb Sling.

Who this sling is for

This sling is for a person who needs a limb held at a working height for wound care, foot care, washing, a dressing change, perineal care, or elevation. It can sit at mid calf or mid arm, under the shoulder blades, or as a light hold of the upper back. Handicare also shows it under the hips for a small pelvic lift, and under a shoulder for access to the head and hair. It is used in acute care, long-term care, and the home. It is not a sit-to-stand sling and it is not a hygiene sling with a commode opening.

  • Loop-bar holds for an arm or a leg during care
  • Elevation for swelling, heel offload, surgery positioning, or range of motion
  • Homes and care rooms already using a Handicare loop bar, once we confirm size, fabric, and working load

What you get

You get one quilted Band Sling in Standard or Bariatric, or a case of 10 disposable Band Slings, matching the line on the quote. Each article is a single band with loops at both ends. Quilted is a blend of open-cell foam and polyester mesh and knit, with blue trim. Disposable is a liquid-repellent non-woven stitch-bond polyester for one patient. Some tasks use two bands on one limb. Ask us if the room should be quoted a pair or a case.

Sizing

Handicare prints two quilted sizes by pad length, not by body weight. There is no seated height-and-weight chart for this band. The pad has to match the limb and the task. Confirm the size and fabric with a clinician or our staff before first use.

Pad figures are approximate to within 1 in. Quilted straps are 12.5 in (dimension C) with two loops. Disposable is a single-loop option. 507720 quilted Standard is the usual starting article. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will match the selector to one article.

Size options

Use the Size selector to pick the factory code on your quote:

  • Quilted, Standard (507720)
  • Quilted, Bariatric (507740)
  • Disposable, pack of 10 (507770-10)

This listing is quote-only. There is no extra on any row.

Handicare Band Sling specifications

These figures are for the Handicare Band Sling family on the current factory instructions, articles 507720, 507740, and 507770-10. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Safe working load is 450 lb (204 kg) on every code. The finished system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the carry bar, and the sling. Quilted is a permeable open-cell foam and polyester blend. Disposable is for one patient and ships as a case of 10. Quilted washes in a laundry bag at 80 C (176 F). Disposable slings are not laundered. Quilted life is up to 4 years, depending on use, care, and laundering.

Attachment and compatible lifts

The Handicare Band Sling is a loop sling. Handicare states that its loop-style slings are compatible with its complete range of carry bars. Quilted straps offer two loops so the hook-up height can be chosen. Disposable is a single-loop option. Do not put these loops on a clip bar, a stud bar, or a Human Care E-clip / mushroom bar. If the bar is an E-clip, see the Human Care Full Body Sling E-clip instead.

On our floor, Handicare loop carry-bar hooks sit on the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, and the Handicare A450, and on the two-point SlingBar of the Handicare Carina 350. Confirm the bar type before the first lift. A 450 lb motor limits the system to 450 lb. A Carina 350 limits the system to 350 lb even though the sling is 450 lb.

Shop related products in specialty slings. For a seated loop transfer, stay with the Universal. For the Medcare wrap strap, stay with the Medcare Limb Sling.

Care and laundering

Quilted: put the sling in a laundry bag, then machine wash at 80 C (176 F). Follow the care symbols on the article you receive. Inspect loops, fabric, and stitching after every wash and before every lift. Take the sling out of service if anything is worn, torn, or the label cannot be read.

Disposable: it is for one patient. Do not put it through the laundry. Replace it when the care plan says the article is finished.

Delivery in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team can deliver this sling across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, on its own or with a Handicare lift setup. We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a sling first. For a scheduled drop-off or a fitting, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works.

This is a small carton. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods can apply when it ships without a lift. If it travels with a patient lift, the lift is oversized and White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the sling needs work, you call the shop that sold it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department.

Handicare / Savaria manufacturer warranty

Ask us for the warranty that ships with your article. We handle the claim with you. Handicare prints an expected quilted life of up to 4 years, depending on use, care, and laundering.

Frequently asked questions

What model is this?

It is the Handicare Band Sling, listed by Savaria Patient Care. Factory codes are 507720 (quilted Standard), 507740 (quilted Bariatric), and 507770-10 (disposable, pack of 10).

Is this a loop sling or an E-clip sling?

Loop. Use it on a Handicare loop-type carry bar or hanger bar. It does not use clip studs or Human Care mushroom E-clips.

What is the safe working load?

450 lb (204 kg) on every code. The finished system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the bar, and the sling.

Which size should I order?

Handicare offers quilted Standard (28 x 9 in) and quilted Bariatric (34 x 9 in). Disposable is 34 x 9 in in a pack of 10. There is no body-weight chart for this band. 507720 is the usual starting article. Confirm the size with a clinician or our staff before first use.

What is the difference between quilted and disposable?

Quilted is the reusable foam-and-polyester band, the one you wash. Disposable is a non-woven band for one patient and ships as a case of 10. Disposable slings are not laundered.

How is this different from the Medcare Limb Sling?

This is the Handicare quilted or disposable band (507720 family). The Medcare Limb Sling is a different brand's wrap strap in 6 in and 12 in (400275 family). Both hold a limb for care. We will match the one that fits the lift and the task.

Does it fit a C450 or A450?

Those Handicare motors use loop carry-bar hooks, which is the attachment class this sling is built for. Confirm the bar on your motor and stay inside the lowest working load. A 450 lb motor is the limit on those two lifts.

How do I wash the quilted sling?

Put it in a laundry bag and wash at 80 C (176 F). Follow the label on the sling you receive. Inspect loops and seams after every wash. Disposable slings are not washed.

Do some tasks need two slings?

Yes. Handicare notes that two Band Slings can give more support on a larger limb. A clinician assesses any transfer use of the band system before first use. We will quote a pair or a case when the care plan needs it.

Can this sling move someone from bed to chair?

This band holds a limb, a hip, or a shoulder for care. For a seated transfer, use the Handicare Universal Sling. A clinician must assess the person before any transfer use of the band system.

Does funding cover a sling in Ontario?

Slings follow the funding path of the lift they are used with. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check the lift and the sling together.
