Span cuts it from medium-density foam and uses the Geo-Matt segmented top so each cell can follow the person, reduce shearing, and cradle bony prominences. Ring-of-Air channels help move heat and moisture away from the skin. Every model on this page is 18 by 16 by 4 inches with a 200 lb weight limit. This cushion is for a wheelchair user who needs a 4 inch non-powered foam seat on an 18 inch wide chair, and whose weight is within Span's 200 lb rating. Span writes it for comfort and for prevention of breakdown, with a taller medium-density seat than the 3 inch PRT.
Families and therapists usually call us when the seating plan asks for the Geo-Matt 4 inch cushion, not a mattress pad and not the high-density PRT. If the care team has asked for an in-bed Span surface, we already stock the Geo-Matt overlay and PressureGuard Custom Care and Span-Care mattresses and will quote those separately.

Construction and how it works
The Geo-Matt Cushion is a non-powered seat cushion. Span cuts the core from medium-density foam and segments the top into individually responsive cells. Those cells are the Geo-Matt geometry used across the family. Ring-of-Air channels help reduce heat and moisture at the skin.
Choose a cover under Choose Cover. Soft Skin is a durable sleeve you can wipe with warm water and soap. Fire-retardant Soft Skin is the same path with the fire-retardant sleeve. The anti-slip cover uses a nylon and vinyl fabric for protection from incontinence. Cushion only is the foam without a factory sleeve. Span allows a light covering of your choice over the cushion. Do not stack underpads on top of one another, because layered pads can change how the seat works.

Which wheelchairs this cushion fits
Span publishes the Geo-Matt Cushion in one seat size: 18 inches wide by 16 inches deep by 4 inches high. Choose it when the wheelchair seat sling or seat pan is 18 inches wide. Span does not name a wheelchair brand or model. Tell us the measured seat width and we will confirm the match.
Place the cushion in the chair with the zipper toward the back and the vinyl side down into the chair upholstery, using the Bottom rear mark on the cushion. A light covering of your choice is allowed. If the chair is 16, 20, 22, or wider inches, ask us for the Span America Geo-Matt PRT, which Span cuts in those wheelchair widths.

What is the Geo-Matt Cushion?

Is this a mattress overlay?

How is this different from the Geo-Matt PRT?
This cushion is medium-density foam, 4 inches high, 18 by 16 inches only, and rated at 200 lb. The Geo-Matt PRT is high-density foam at 3 inches (4 inches on bariatric sizes), with a 250 or 500 lb rating and many seat widths. They do not share part numbers.
Does this cushion need a pump?
No. The Geo-Matt Cushion is non-powered foam. There is no pump to plug in.
