Description

The ErgoSafe ErgoGlide is a one-direction seated glide for moving a person farther back in a chair or wheelchair and helping them stay there. Savaria Patient Care lists it as ErgoSafe ErgoGlide. The sliding face lowers the force of the move. The locking face resists forward slip. It comes as a continuous tube (5300 / 230530) or a longer pad with a foot loop (5400 / 230540). Westin Healthcare quotes it and delivers it across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This is not the SystemRoMedic OneWaySlide. OneWaySlide is the Handicare tubular or 6-handle mat family. ErgoGlide is the ErgoSafe article: a 45 x 45 cm tube, or a 130 x 40 cm pad the caregiver steps on. This is not SitWalk, which is a strap you put under the thighs and take off. This is not EasyGlide, which is a hard sliding board. This is not an in-bed slide sheet. This is not the unbranded one-way glides we already sell (11435 to 11439). Those do a related seated job on their own cards.

Who it is for

ErgoGlide is for a person who slides forward in a chair or wheelchair and needs to be moved back while remaining seated. The 5300 tube sits on the seat cushion. The 5400 pad is for a caregiver who will stand behind the chair and step on the foot loop. If the person will sit on the glide for an extended period, check their skin on the same schedule as any other seated aid. Ask an occupational or physical therapist before you use it with a person who has, or is at risk of, a pressure ulcer.

  • Homes and care sites that reposition in a wheelchair or armchair
  • A person who can remain seated on a one-way glide
  • Sites that want the named ErgoSafe / Handicare 5300 or 5400 article
  • A caregiver who prefers a foot-loop step (5400) instead of a 6-handle pull

What you get

You get one ErgoGlide in the article on your quote. 5300 is the continuous tube. 5400 includes the sewn-on black foot loop. Nothing else ships in the carton.

The official covers show a quilted one-way glide with a printed arrow. The 5400 instructions tell you to fold it with the velour face out so the nylon fibres can slide against themselves when you step on the loop. The 5300 instructions do not print a fibre list. Wash at 80 C / 170 F. Hang to dry, or tumble dry on low heat at 40 C / 104 F. Check the glide for wear before each use. Practice with a fellow caregiver the first time.

ErgoGlide specifications

These figures are for the current ErgoSafe ErgoGlide 5300 and 5400 articles, not OneWaySlide, not SitWalk, not EasyGlide, not ErgoSlide, and not the unbranded TS306xx glides. The specification tab holds the stored values.

5300 / 230530 is 17.75 x 17.75 in (45 x 45 cm). 5400 / 230540 is 51 x 15.75 in (130 x 40 cm). The current instructions do not print a safe working load. Use the label on the article you receive. The 5400 instructions name a velour face and nylon sliding fibres. Both articles wash at 80 C / 170 F.

Do not read OneWaySlide 2069-2077 sizes, SitWalk 6080, EasyGlide board lengths, or the unbranded TS306xx sizes onto this page.

Sizes and models

Use the Model selector to pick the factory article on your quote:

  • 230530: 5300 tube, 45 x 45 cm, no foot loop
  • 230540: 5400 foot loop, 130 x 40 cm

This listing is quote-only. On both models the label stays visible and the arrow points toward the back of the chair. On 5300, put the tube on the cushion first if a lift will seat the person, then seat them all the way back. If they sit themselves and cannot reach the back, place the tube a few inches from the back and assist them back. On 5400, fold the pad in half with the short ends together and the velour out. Align the short ends with the rear of the cushion. Hang the black loop between the seat and the backrest. Lock the brakes. Stand behind the chair, hold the push handles, and step straight down on the loop. Lean the person forward first if that makes the step easier. Hang the loop over a push handle when you are done so it is not a trip hazard. Reset 5400 when the person moves to the next wheelchair.

Delivery in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team can deliver this glide across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a sample first. For a scheduled drop-off, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works.

This is a small carton. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods can apply when it ships on its own. If it travels with an oversized lift, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Which chairs this fits

ErgoGlide is made for a chair or wheelchair seat. Both models sit on the cushion. 5400 hangs its foot loop between the seat and the backrest. It is not a lift sling and does not attach to a carry bar. It is not an in-bed sheet. It does not tie to the wheelchair frame the way the OneWaySlide 6-handle mat does.

If you want the SystemRoMedic one-way family (tube or 6-handle mat with frame ties), that is the OneWaySlide. If the aid should go under the thighs and come off after the move, that is SitWalk. If the work is a seat-to-seat or car slide on a hard board, that is EasyGlide. If the person can stand and step with help, look at the Handicare ReTurn or the QuickMove sit-to-stand aid. If the work is in bed, stay with EasySlide or WendyLett, or see the HumanCare Positioning Sling when a lift sling is the right tool. We already sell unbranded one-way glides (11435 to 11439) for a related seated job. Ask us which glide to quote. Those stay on their own listings.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When a glide wears out, you call the shop that sold it. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department.

ErgoSafe ErgoGlide warranty

The current 5300 and 5400 instructions do not print a warranty year count. Check the glide for wear before each use and replace it when the fabric, seams, or foot loop show wear. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ErgoSafe ErgoGlide?

It is a one-direction seated glide. It slides backward so a caregiver can move a person back in a chair or wheelchair, and it resists sliding forward so the person can stay sitting on it.

What models can I quote?

Two live Savaria codes: 230530 (5300 tube, 45 x 45 cm) and 230540 (5400 foot loop, 130 x 40 cm). We will match the selector to one of those articles.

How is this different from OneWaySlide?

Both are stay-on one-way chair glides. OneWaySlide is the SystemRoMedic family: a short tube, or a long 6-handle mat that ties to the wheelchair frame. ErgoGlide is the ErgoSafe family: a 45 x 45 cm tube, or a 130 x 40 cm pad with a foot loop the caregiver steps on. We keep them on separate cards. See OneWaySlide.

How is this different from SitWalk?

SitWalk is a strap you place under the thighs, pull, and remove. ErgoGlide stays on the seat. See SitWalk.

How do I use the 5300 tube?

Put it on the cushion with the label visible and the arrow toward the back. If a lift will seat the person, put the tube on first and seat them all the way back. If they sit themselves and cannot reach the back, place it a few inches from the back and assist them back.

How do I use the 5400 foot loop?

Fold the pad in half, velour out, short ends at the rear of the cushion, arrow back, loop between the seat and backrest. Lock the brakes. Stand behind the chair and step straight down on the loop. Hang the loop over a push handle when you are done. Reset it when the person changes chairs.

Can the person stay sitting on it?

Yes. That is the job of a one-way seated glide. Assess their skin if they sit on it for an extended period.

What is the safe working load?

The current 5300 and 5400 instructions do not print a kilogram or pound figure. Use the label on the article you receive. Call (905) 451-7743 if you need us to match another seated glide.

How is this different from the unbranded one-way glides we already sell?

The unbranded one-way glides 11435 to 11439 do a related seated job. They are not ErgoSafe ErgoGlide 5300 or 5400. This is the named 230530 / 230540 family. We keep both listings.

Is the disposable blue sheet this product?

No. This listing is the reusable 5300 tube and the 5400 foot-loop pad. The disposable ErgoGlider sheet is a different article.

How do I wash it?

Follow the product label. The current instructions allow a machine wash at 80 C / 170 F, then hang dry or tumble dry on low heat at 40 C / 104 F. Inspect it before the next use.

Does it attach to a patient lift?

No. It sits on the chair or wheelchair cushion. A mechanical lift can seat the person onto the 5300 tube. The glide itself is not a sling and does not clip to a carry bar.
