Description
The Drive 15302LW is Drive Medical's 48-inch lightweight full-electric bariatric homecare bed. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The hand control moves the head section, the foot section, and the height of the bed.
Drive lists a 750 lb safe working load for this SKU and a sleep surface 48 inches wide by 80 inches long. The sleep deck sits between 16 and 24 inches. Overall bed height with casters is 35 to 44 inches. This is the 48-inch member of Drive's lightweight bariatric family, not the older heavy 15302 frame, and not the 42-inch or 54-inch siblings.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home and needs more width or more capacity than a 42-inch, 600 lb bariatric frame or a standard 36-inch, 450 lb homecare bed. Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for a 48-inch bariatric frame.
If a standard-width full-electric bed is enough, start with the Drive Delta 1000. If 42 inches and a 600 lb safe working load will do, see the Drive 15300LW 42-inch bariatric bed. If the person needs a wider deck or a higher safe working load than 750 lbs, see the Drive 15303LW 54-inch bariatric bed (1000 lb) instead of stretching this frame.
- Home care, where the bed has to work in a bedroom and give more space than a 36-inch or 42-inch deck
- Anyone whose therapist has asked for a 48-inch bariatric hospital bed
- Anyone who needs electric head, foot, and height from one hand control, at a 750 lb safe working load
What you get
The Drive 15302LW is a full-electric bariatric bed. A linear motor in the head section and a linear motor in the foot section move those ends. Two hi-lo motors in the wood-grain bed ends move the height. The four-function pendant raises or lowers the head, the foot, both together, or the whole deck.
Drive ships the bed in three cartons: the 48-inch head and foot boards with the hi-lo motors, the 48-inch head frame with its linear motor, and the 48-inch foot frame with its linear motor. Setup is tool-free. There are no links to connect. Side rails and a mattress are not in those cartons. Drive's matching half rails are 15021BV-LW. Drive's matching 48-inch foam mattress is 15310.
- Four-function hand control for head, foot, head and foot together, and height
- Glow-in-the-dark pendant with LED power and lockout indicators
- Square-tube steel slat deck
- Scratch-resistant wood-grain head and foot panels
- Hi-lo motors built into the bed ends
- UL-approved self-contained motor that can be fitted or removed with the person still in the bed
- Five-inch casters, two locking and two unlocking
- Mattress retainers on the deck
- IEC 60601-2-52, 60601-1, 60601-1-2, and 60601-1-11
- A 24-volt battery path that can lower the head and foot slowly to flat if the power goes out
Drive lists the optional battery backup as 15302LWB, sold separately. The owner manual says a 24-volt battery in the motor can still lower the head and foot slowly to flat in a power cut. There is no emergency crank on this model.
Drive 15302LW specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU 15302LW, Drive's Lightweight Bariatric Homecare Bed in 48 inches. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet for this SKU lists a 48 inch by 80 inch sleep surface, a 750 lb safe working load, a 294 lb three-carton ship weight, and an overall bed height of 35 to 44 inches with casters.
Drive's owner manual for the same SKU prints a deck height of 16 to 24 inches, under-bed clearance of 12 inches, overall length 87.79 inches, and overall width 48 inches without rails or 55.37 inches with rails. Head travel is 0 to 60 degrees. Foot travel is 0 to 17 degrees. The safe working load includes the person, the mattress, and accessories. The bed label also prints a maximum patient weight of 650 lbs.
Warranty for the original purchaser is 5 years on the motor and hand control, limited lifetime on welds and frame, and 1 year on all other parts and components.
Rails, mattress, and accessories
This listing is the Drive 15302LW bed frame with headboard and footboard. Ask us to add Drive's matching half rails and a 48-inch surface when you order, or we can set that up when we book delivery.
Half rails
Drive's official half rail for this series is 15021BV-LW. We stock it as Drive Bariatric Half Length Bed Rails 15021BV-LW. Those rails are made for the 15300LW, 15302LW, and 15303LW frames. Drive does not list a full-length rail for this family. Do not use a standard T-style rail from a 36-inch homecare bed on this frame.
Mattress
The sleep surface is 48 inches by 80 inches, so you want a bariatric hospital-bed mattress in that size. Drive's owner manual lists:
- Drive Bariatric Mattress 48 Inch 15310, a 6.5 inch foam surface. Drive rates that mattress at 665 lbs.
- Drive ShearCare 1500 in 48 inches (1500SC-48-FB). Drive rates that surface at 750 lbs.
- Med Aire Plus 48 Inch 14048, an alternating-pressure system. Drive rates that surface at 750 lbs.
Drive asks for a mattress at least 5-1/2 inches thick. The 15310 foam surface is rated 665 lbs, which is below the bed's 750 lb safe working load, so ask us before you pair them. If you are not sure which surface you need, call (905) 451-7743. Your therapist can tell us if the person needs a foam surface or an alternating-pressure system.
Battery backup
Drive's optional backup is 15302LWB. It is sold separately and is not on this listing. The 24-volt path in the motor can still lower the head and foot slowly to flat in a power cut.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?
Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.
Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Drive manufacturer warranty
Drive's standard warranty for the original purchaser is 5 years on the motor and hand control, limited lifetime on welds and frame, and 1 year on all other parts and components. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does OHIP cover hospital beds?
No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.
Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?
The Drive 15302LW is full electric. The hand control adjusts the head, the foot, and the height of the bed. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank. This model has no crank.
How is the 15302LW different from the 42-inch and 54-inch Drive bariatric beds?
All three are Drive lightweight full-electric bariatric beds. The 15300LW is 42 inches wide with a 600 lb safe working load. The 15302LW is 48 inches and 750 lbs. The 15303LW is 54 inches and 1000 lbs. If the person is near this frame's limit, or needs more width, ask us about the 54-inch sibling instead of stretching this one.
What mattress fits the Drive 15302LW?
The sleep surface is 48 inches wide by 80 inches long, so you want a hospital-bed mattress in that size. Drive lists the 15310 foam mattress, the ShearCare 1500 in 48 inches (1500SC-48-FB), and the Med Aire Plus 14048. The 15310 foam surface is rated 665 lbs, which is below the bed's 750 lb safe working load, so ask us before you pair them. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure surface.
Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?
Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.
How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.
What is included with this Drive 15302LW?
You get the Drive 15302LW full-electric bariatric bed frame with headboard and footboard, casters, and the four-function hand control. Half rails and a 48-inch mattress are sold separately. We stock Drive 15021BV-LW half rails and the Drive 15310 48-inch foam mattress. The optional 15302LWB battery backup is a Drive accessory, not part of this listing.
What is the weight capacity of the Drive 15302LW?
Drive lists a safe working load of 750 lbs for SKU 15302LW. That total includes the person, the mattress, and accessories. The owner-manual label also prints a maximum patient weight of 650 lbs. If the person is near that limit, or you need a wider sleep deck, ask us about the 54-inch sibling instead of stretching this frame.
What happens if the power goes out?
A 24-volt battery in the motor can lower the head and foot slowly until the sleep surface is flat. That backup is for an outage, not everyday use. Drive also sells an optional 15302LWB battery pack. There is no crank on this model. Keep the bed plugged in, and ask us about a backup if the person cannot sit up without the motors.
What is the warranty on the Drive 15302LW?
For the original purchaser, Drive covers the motor and hand control for 5 years, welds and frame for a limited lifetime, and all other parts and components for 1 year. Those terms are printed on Drive's 15302LW sheet. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work. Details are on our service and repairs page.
Do I need a bariatric hospital bed or a standard hospital bed?
A standard full-electric homecare bed on this site is usually 36 inches wide with a 450 lb capacity. Choose this 48-inch 15302LW when the person needs more width than the 42-inch 15300LW, or a 750 lb safe working load. If a 36-inch deck is enough, the Drive Delta 1000 is the simpler match.
