Description

The Drive 15005LP is Drive Medical's full-electric low-height hospital bed, sold as the Drive Full Electric Low Height Bed. Westin Healthcare sells the 15005LP-HRPKG-TS package, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The hand control moves the head section, the foot section, and the height of the bed.

Drive lists two caster setups on this frame. In the low-caster setup the sleep deck sits between 9.25 inches and 23 inches. In the roll-at-any-height setup it sits between 14.81 inches and 23 inches. Patient weight capacity is 350 lbs. Total capacity is 450 lbs for the person, the mattress, the rails, and anything else on the bed. Auto-Contour raises the head and foot together so the person is less likely to slide when the bed is repositioned.

Who this bed is for

This bed is for a person who needs a hospital-style bed at home and wants a lower sleep deck than a standard homecare bed, with electric head, foot, and height from one hand control. The low-caster setup is the reason families pick this frame when transfers are easier closer to the floor. The same hand control still raises the bed so a caregiver can change linen without working at floor height.

Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when a regular bed has become hard to get in and out of, or when a therapist has asked for a lower transfer height. If you do not need the low deck, start with the Drive Delta 1000. If you want the Delta Ultra-Light low sibling, with a 9V backup in the hand control, see the Drive Delta 15235 hi-low bed. If the person is near or over 350 lbs, or the total load is near 450 lbs, ask us about the Drive 15300LW 42-inch bariatric bed instead of stretching this frame.

  • Home care, where the bed has to work in a bedroom and sit lower for transfers
  • Hospital or nursing-home use when a portable full-electric low frame is enough
  • Anyone who needs electric head, foot, and height from one hand control, plus Auto-Contour

What you get

The Drive 15005LP is a full-electric low-height bed. Three motors move the head spring, the foot spring, and the overall height. Those motors come pre-installed on the foot section. The hand pendant is Drive part 15005HCN-L.

Westin's SKU 15005LP-HRPKG-TS is Drive's half-rail and Therapeutic Support Surface package: the 15005LP frame, Drive half rails 15201BV, and the Drive Therapeutic 5 Zone Support Mattress 15019. Use the selectors below if you want full rails or a different mattress.

Drive ships the frame in two cartons. The low-height headboard and head spring are in one carton. The low-height footboard, foot spring, three motors, junction box, hand control, and emergency crank are in the other. Four casters (two locking, two non-locking) ship with the bed.

  • Hand control for head, foot, and height
  • Auto-Contour, so the head and foot rise together
  • Channel frame and zinc-coated spring deck
  • Heavy-duty bed ends with polyethylene moulded covers
  • A taller headboard than footboard, so the bed sits more naturally in a home
  • Labels and colour-coded springs so side rails go on the right way
  • UL-approved motor, built to satisfy applicable FDA entrapment guidelines
  • Casters that can be set for roll-at-low-height-only or roll-at-any-height
  • A top-mounted hi/lo crank on the footboard, plus a manual crank that can move the head, the foot, or the height if the power is out
  • Bed ships in two cartons

There is no battery backup on this model. Drive's owner manual prints battery backup as not applicable. Keep the emergency crank with the bed, and take it off the shaft before everyday use.

Drive 15005LP specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU 15005LP-HRPKG-TS, the Drive Full Electric Low Height Bed in the half-rail and Therapeutic 5 Zone package. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet for this family lists a low-caster deck height of 9.25 inches to 23 inches, a roll-at-any-height range of 14.81 inches to 23 inches, a 169 lb frame, and a 184 lb carton shipping weight. Drive's owner manual for the same SKU prints a single height range of 9.5 inches to 22.5 inches.

The sleep surface takes a standard 36 inch by 80 inch hospital-bed mattress. That is the size of the Drive 15019 mattress in this package. Drive's owner manual prints the mattress deck as 34.65 inches by 79.53 inches, an overall bed size of 36.22 inches wide by 87.99 inches long, and 38.58 inches wide with rails on. Drive's 15005EXTKIT-L extends length from 80 inches to 84 inches. That kit is a separate accessory. Ask us about the Drive bed extension kit 15005EXTKIT-L if the person needs the extra four inches.

Patient weight capacity is 350 lbs. Total weight capacity is 450 lbs for the person, the mattress, the rails, and anything else on the bed. Head section travel is 0 to 70 degrees. Foot section travel is 0 to 46 degrees. Under-bed clearance in the owner manual is 2.6 inches.

Warranty for the original purchaser is a limited lifetime on welds, 5 years on the frame, motor, and pendant, and 1 year on all other parts and components.

CHOOSE SIDE SAFETY RAILS and CHOOSE MATTRESS

Use the selectors to set rails and mattress. This package starts with half rails and the Therapeutic 5 Zone mattress included. You can change either choice before you order.

CHOOSE SIDE SAFETY RAILS

Pick one:

  • DRIVE HALF RAILS BED SIDE (PAIR)
  • DRIVE FULL RAILS BED SIDE STANDARD TELESCOPING

The first option is Drive's half-length rail 15201BV, the rail that ships in the 15005LP-HRPKG-TS kit. The second option is Drive's telescoping full-length rail 15001ABV. Labels and colour-coded springs are there so the rails are installed in the safe position. Drive's owner manual says to use rails and a mattress that fit this frame, and to keep the mattress centred so the person cannot slip into a gap. Rails are a reminder to help keep someone from rolling out. They are not a restraint and they are not a handle for getting in or out of bed. If you are not sure which rail style the therapist asked for, call (905) 451-7743 before you order.

CHOOSE MATTRESS

The sleep surface takes a 36 inch by 80 inch hospital-bed mattress. CHOOSE MATTRESS lists:

  • THERAPEUTIC 5 ZONE SUPPORT MATTRESS
  • Drive Gravity 7 mattress, 80"- 15770
  • GRAVITY 8 DELUXE LONG TERM CARE PRESSURE REDISTRIBUTION MATTRESS
  • GRAVITY 9 PREMIUM LONG TERM CARE PRESSURE REDISTRIBUTION MATTRESS
  • DOMUS 4 LOW AIR LOSS ALTERNATING PRESSURE MATTRESS

THERAPEUTIC 5 ZONE SUPPORT MATTRESS is Drive 15019, the surface in this package. Gravity 7, Gravity 8, and Gravity 9 are Drive long-term-care foam surfaces. Domus 4 is an alternating-pressure system. If you are not sure which surface you need, call (905) 451-7743. Your therapist can tell us if the person needs a foam surface or an alternating-pressure system.

Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.

Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?

Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.

Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Drive manufacturer warranty

Drive's warranty for the original purchaser of this bed is a limited lifetime on welds, 5 years on the frame, motor, and pendant, and 1 year on all other parts and components. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does OHIP cover hospital beds?

No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.

Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.

What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?

The Drive 15005LP is full electric, so the hand control adjusts the head, the foot, and the height of the bed. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank. Drive's semi-electric sibling in this family is a different SKU, 15004P.

How is the 15005LP different from the Drive Delta 1000 and the Delta 15235?

The 15005LP is Drive's Full Electric Low Height Bed, not a Delta Ultra-Light. It has Auto-Contour, two caster setups, a 350 lb patient / 450 lb total capacity, and a crank for outages. The Drive Delta 1000 is the standard-height Delta package. The Drive Delta 15235 is the Delta-family low bed and uses a 9V backup in the hand control.

What mattress fits the Drive 15005LP?

The sleep surface takes a 36 inch by 80 inch hospital-bed mattress. This package includes the THERAPEUTIC 5 ZONE SUPPORT MATTRESS (Drive 15019). CHOOSE MATTRESS also lists Drive Gravity 7 mattress, 80"- 15770, GRAVITY 8 DELUXE LONG TERM CARE PRESSURE REDISTRIBUTION MATTRESS, GRAVITY 9 PREMIUM LONG TERM CARE PRESSURE REDISTRIBUTION MATTRESS, and the DOMUS 4 LOW AIR LOSS ALTERNATING PRESSURE MATTRESS. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure surface.

Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?

Yes. Westin Healthcare rents full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to this bed.

How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.

What is included with this Drive 15005LP?

You get the Drive 15005LP full-electric low-height frame with headboard and footboard, casters, hand control, and the emergency crank. This package also includes DRIVE HALF RAILS BED SIDE (PAIR) and the THERAPEUTIC 5 ZONE SUPPORT MATTRESS. CHOOSE SIDE SAFETY RAILS and CHOOSE MATTRESS can change those two items. An 84 inch extension is a separate Drive kit, 15005EXTKIT-L.

What is the weight capacity of the Drive 15005LP?

Drive lists a patient weight capacity of 350 lbs and a total weight capacity of 450 lbs for the 15005LP family. The total includes the person, the mattress, the rails, and anything else on the bed. If the person is near that limit, or you need a wider sleep deck, ask us about a bariatric hospital bed instead of stretching this frame.

What happens if the power goes out?

There is no battery backup on this model. Use the emergency crank, which Drive stores in the deck under the mattress, to move the head, the foot, or the height by hand. In the low-height position, open the cover on top of the footboard and insert the crank. Take the crank off the shaft before you use the bed again.

What is the warranty on the Drive 15005LP?

For the original purchaser, Drive covers welds for a limited lifetime, the frame, motor, and pendant for 5 years, and all other parts and components for 1 year. Those terms are printed on Drive's 15005LP sheet and in the owner manual. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.

What is Auto-Contour, and can this bed be made longer than 80 inches?

Auto-Contour raises the head and foot of the bed at the same time so the person is less likely to slide during a position change. Drive's 15005EXTKIT-L extends the sleep length from 80 inches to 84 inches and is a separate accessory. Ask us if the person needs the extra length before we book delivery.
