Deposit

Confirm before booking

Ask us to confirm whether a deposit applies. We will give you the amount, return conditions and refund timing before you book.

We confirm the sling type, size and any separate charge before booking. A random sling should never be attached to the rental lift.

Floor lift, sit-to-stand or ceiling lift: which one is this rental?

This rental is a battery-powered floor lift for a full sling transfer. It is not a sit-to-stand rental and it is not an installed ceiling-track system.

What we price here

Full sling floor lift

A floor lift supports the person in a sling for transfers between a bed, wheelchair, commode or chair when a standing transfer is not safe.

Different equipment

Sit-to-stand

A sit-to-stand device is for a person who can bear some weight and follow instructions. The $90 to $280 rate ladder on this page does not price a sit-to-stand rental.

Installed system

Ceiling lift

A ceiling lift runs on an installed track and is a separate assessment and installation project. Compare our ceiling lift page if the room is too tight for a floor lift.

What sling do we need, and is it matched to this lift?

A lift is only as safe as its sling. The sling must be sized to the person, suited to the transfer, compatible with the lift and approved by the manufacturer.

Compatibility

Match the sling to the lift

Do not attach a random sling because the loops seem to fit. The attachment style, weight rating and manufacturer-approved pairing all matter.

Fit

Size for the person and transfer

Full-body, divided-leg, toileting and hygiene slings solve different transfer needs. Size should follow the person's measurements and the sling instructions, not a guess from a clothing size.

Before every use

Inspect the sling

Check for fraying, damage, faded or unreadable labels and a sling that is beyond its stated lifespan. Stop if the sling or its label is not sound.

Health Canada warns that the wrong sling size, an unapproved pairing, worn equipment and missing training raise the risk of a fall. See our patient lift sling guide.

Will the lift fit under the bed and move through the room?

Measure the gap under the bed frame, the narrowest doorway, the tightest turn and the chair the person will land in. The rental fleet's exact clearance, base width and weight are confirmed for the unit available, not guessed on this page.

Bed clearance

Measure under the frame

Measure the open gap under the bed frame, not under the mattress. A solid platform or a frame with no gap can stop the lift legs from moving into position.

Chair approach

Check the front and the side

Lift-chair and commode bases can block a front approach. Tell us which chair is in the room and whether the lift can approach it from the side.

Flooring

Loaded movement on carpet is different

A lift can roll while empty and become difficult to move when loaded on carpet. Tell us the flooring from the bed to the chair or commode before booking.

A floor lift stays on one level. It is not a stair climber, and it does not solve a bedroom or bathroom that can only be reached by stairs.

Can one caregiver operate a patient lift alone?

Some transfers can be completed by one trained caregiver and some cannot. Follow the manufacturer rule for the actual lift, the person's current transfer assessment and the available space.

Person

Ability can change during the day

A transfer can become a full lift when the person cannot bear weight, cannot follow instructions or becomes unpredictable. Reassess rather than forcing the original plan.

Room

Tight space adds risk

A second pair of hands may be needed to watch the person's feet, guide the chair and keep furniture clear while the operator controls the lift.

Floor pickup

Do not assume every lift can do it

Whether the available lift can pick someone up from the floor is model-specific. Call and ask us to confirm the actual unit before relying on it for that task.

How fast can you deliver, and what training is needed?

When the lift is in stock, we can often deliver the same day or the next day. Urgent hospital discharges should call 905 451-7743 rather than rely on the online calendar.

Schedule

Plan for the delivery window

Rental delivery is scheduled in a two to three hour window. The person who will operate the lift should be present, and the bed, chair and transfer path should be ready to check.

Training

Instruction comes before the first transfer

Ask what demonstration is included with the booking. The caregiver needs instruction for the actual lift, sling attachments, emergency lowering and transfer plan before using it.

Hospital discharge

Ask the social worker first

Ask whether Ontario Health atHome can arrange equipment and training, or call 310-2222. Rent privately when that route does not meet the timing, room or equipment need.

Our regular rental area includes Toronto, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Mississauga, Brampton and Scarborough. An extra charge may apply outside 30 km.

What usually goes with a patient lift?

The lift handles the transfer. The sling, bed, toileting route and items used at the bedside still need their own plan.

Does ADP or OHIP pay for a patient lift rental?

No. Patient lifts are not an ADP item, and ADP does not fund equipment rentals. OHIP does not pay Westin's retail patient lift rental.

Ontario Health atHome

Ask before renting privately

Ontario Health atHome may arrange medical equipment through contracted suppliers after an assessment. Its typical rental is 30 days, exceptions can apply and some fees may apply. Ask whether a lift is available by calling 310-2222.

Toronto assistance

TESS names lifts and slings

Toronto TESS and the Hardship Fund may consider electric Hoyer lifts, manual lifts, portable lifts and slings with an OT letter and quote. It does not publish a promise to pay a weekly rental. Call 416-338-8888 before ordering.

Other payers

Get approval before the invoice

WSIB, Veterans Affairs and private insurance may help when their eligibility and approval rules apply. Confirm rental coverage before committing.

What sling do we need?

Can one caregiver operate the lift alone?

Some transfers can be completed by one trained caregiver and some cannot. Follow the manufacturer rule for the actual lift, the person's current transfer assessment and the available space.

Will it fit under the bed and roll on carpet?

Measure the open gap under the bed frame and tell us the flooring on the transfer path. A solid platform bed can block the lift legs, and a lift that rolls empty can become difficult to move when loaded on carpet.

Does ADP or OHIP pay for a patient lift rental?

No. Patient lifts are not an ADP item, ADP does not fund equipment rentals and OHIP does not pay Westin's retail patient lift rental. Ask Ontario Health atHome at 310-2222 whether contracted equipment is available.

Will Westin show us how to use the lift?

Training is required before use. Ask what demonstration is included with the booking, make sure the actual caregiver is present and do not use the lift until that person has instruction for the lift and sling.

Need help checking the room and sling?

Tell us the person's transfer ability, the sling recommendation, the gap under the bed, the flooring, the chair or commode and who will operate the lift. We will confirm the current rental unit before you book.
