Description
The Drive Poly-Fly TR20 is Drive Medical's 20 inch high-strength combo chair: a self-propelled wheelchair and a transport chair in one aluminum frame. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The 18 inch sibling is the Drive Poly-Fly TR18.
Drive lists a 20 inch by 16 inch seat, a 36 lb chair with the 24 inch wheels on, a 250 lb weight capacity, and 8 inch casters that stay on the frame when the large wheels come off. Anti-tippers ship with the chair. Drive's current 20 inch Poly-Fly SKU is TR20.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who sometimes pushes themselves and sometimes needs a companion to push, and who fits a 20 inch seat at Drive's 250 lb rating. Families usually call us when 18 inches is too narrow and they still want one chair that can live as a wheelchair at home and fold down for the car.
If 18 inches is enough, use the Drive Poly-Fly TR18. If the person needs a 20 inch seat and a 450 lb rating, and no one will self-propel, start with the Drive 20 inch BTR20 instead of stretching this 250 lb frame. A lighter companion-only chair is the Drive Aluminum Transport Chair ATC17/ATC19.
- Home use with 24 inch wheels, then a trunk trip with those wheels off
- A 20 inch seat and a 250 lb Drive rating
- A caregiver who wants a lighter aluminum frame than a steel transport chair
Design and build
The frame is all aluminum. Nylon upholstery wipes clean. The back folds down with Drive's deluxe back release. Swing-away footrests have composite plates and heel loops. Drive lists optional tool-free elevating leg rests as STDELR-TF.
Two wheel sets live on the chair. The 24 inch wheels use a quick-release so you can pull them off and roll on the 8 inch casters. Drive fits two sets of wheel locks, one for each mode. Anti-tippers stay on the frame.
Drive lists 25.5 inches wide with the 24 inch wheels on, and 12 inches folded. Owner-manual steps for the changeover: depress the quick-release and slide the large wheel off the axle. The 8 inch casters stay put. The chair is not a car seat.
Drive Poly-Fly TR20 specifications
These figures are for Drive SKU TR20, the 20 inch Poly-Fly. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet for TR20 lists a 20 inch by 16 inch seat, 36 lb with 24 inch wheels, a 41 lb carton, a 250 lb capacity, a 19.5 inch seat-to-floor height, a 16 inch back, 42 by 25.5 by 37 inches open with the large wheels, and 12 inches folded.
Do not mix these numbers with TR18. That chair is 18 inches wide, 24.5 inches overall with the 24 inch wheels, 34 lb, and a 39 lb carton. Both share the 250 lb rating and the same hybrid layout.
Warranty for the original purchaser is Drive's Lifetime Limited term: defects in materials and workmanship for the life of that purchaser. It does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to rubber accessories, casters, and grips.
Footrest options
Drive ships swing-away footrests as standard. Use Legrest Footrest Type if you want to change the rigging. You leave the 24 inch wheels on for self-propel, or take them off for transport mode.
Legrest Footrest Type
- Swing Away Footrest
- Elevating Footrest
Drive's matching elevating part is STDELR-TF, a tool-free swing-away elevating leg rest. If you are not sure, call (905) 451-7743 before you order.
Funding help for a transport wheelchair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers manual and power wheelchairs but does not cover transport chairs, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs. If a self-propelled wheelchair could suit the person's needs, an ADP assessment may open 75% funding on an eligible chair. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that sold it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Drive manufacturer warranty
Drive's owner manual for the Poly-Fly (TR16 / TR18 / TR20) prints a Lifetime Limited Warranty for the original purchaser: free of defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of that purchaser. The warranty does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to non-durable parts such as rubber accessories, casters, and grips. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a transport chair and a standard wheelchair on the Poly-Fly?
With the 24 inch wheels on, TR20 works as a standard self-propelled wheelchair. Take those wheels off and the same frame rolls on 8 inch casters as a transport chair that a caregiver pushes. Drive ships both modes in one carton.
Who pushes the TR20?
Either the person in the seat, using the 24 inch wheels, or a companion, after those wheels come off. Two lock sets are fitted so each mode has its own locks.
Will it fold into a car trunk?
Drive lists 12 inches folded, with the 24 inch wheels still in the dimension line. The back folds down with the deluxe release. Many families pull the large wheels first to make the load lighter. It is not approved as a seat inside a moving vehicle.
How do I know 20 inches is the right seat?
The seat is 20 inches by 16 inches. Measure the seated hip width and leave a little room. If 18 inches is enough, use the Poly-Fly TR18.
What is the weight capacity?
Drive lists 250 lbs for TR20. If the person is near that limit, look at the Drive 20 inch BTR20 (450 lb, companion-pushed) instead of stretching this frame.
What is the trade-off between 24 inch and 8 inch wheels?
Twenty-four inch wheels let the person self-propel and roll more easily outdoors. They add width and weight (Drive lists 36 lb with them on). Eight inch casters make a shorter, easier-to-stow transport chair that a caregiver pushes. You choose the mode by putting the large wheels on or taking them off.
What is the warranty?
Drive's sheet and owner manual print a Lifetime Limited term for the original purchaser. Wear items such as casters and grips are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.
Can funding help with this chair in Ontario?
Some Ontario routes can help with mobility equipment. Eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
Can I rent a Poly-Fly before I buy?
Westin Healthcare rents some mobility equipment. Ask us whether a Poly-Fly can go out as a rental for your dates. Purchased chairs are delivered on a scheduled date.
How do the 24 inch wheels come off?
Drive's owner manual says to depress the quick-release and slide the wheel off the axle. The 8 inch casters stay on the chair. We will show you that step at delivery.
What SKU is this chair?
Drive's current 20 inch Poly-Fly is TR20. That is the SKU Westin sells. Ask us to confirm the carton label if you need it in writing on the order.
