Construction and how it works

Geo-Mattress HC is cut from a single layer of combustion-modified foam. The cross-cut top is segmented into three distinct zones so the foam can give under the shoulders, seat, and heels instead of sitting as one hard slab. Span's words are that the cross-cut cells individually conform to the person's curves to assist in pressure redistribution. That is a construction claim, not a promise that a wound will heal.

The cover is fluid-proof nylon and vinyl. Span lists a vapor-barrier, bacteriostatically treated cover on every Geo-Mattress, including HC. The cover is pleated so it integrates with the foam and reduces hammocking. Span says the cover is fire resistant, fluid-proof, tear resistant, cleanable, and replaceable.

Geo-Mattress HC is the 5-inch home care tier. Heel Slope and the Geo-Matt 800-cell segmented top belong to the other Geo-Mattress tiers, which are listed separately.

Span publishes Geo-Mattress HC in 35 x 75, 35 x 80, and 35 x 84 inches. Span's Geo-Mattress family instructions say to confirm the mattress fits the bed frame and to keep gaps small so the person cannot slip into a space between the mattress and the frame.

The 35 x 80 size (SP810-29) matches the 35-inch by 80-inch sleep surface on the Span America Advantage. It also sits on a standard 36-inch by 80-inch home care deck, including the Drive Delta 1000 and the Drive SoLite Pro. Use the 75-inch row on a shorter deck and the 84-inch row when the deck has been extended.

The Span America Encore starts at 36 inches and opens to 39 and 42 inches with ReadyWide. Keep HC on the 36-inch position, or ask us for a wider SPAN surface if the deck will run at 39 or 42 inches. HC is 35 inches wide and rated 250 lbs, so it is the wrong width and rating for a 42-inch or bariatric bed.
