Description
The Span America Convoluted Foam Overlay is Span America's egg-crate comfort pad for a 34 by 72 inch mattress. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and places it on the mattress for homes and care sites in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
This page is the convoluted overlay only. Span cuts it from combustion-modified polyurethane foam and forms a peaked egg-crate surface. Every pad is 72 inches long by 34 inches wide. Heights are 2, 3, or 4 inches, in standard or premium density. The pads arrive compression rolled. Span writes this overlay as a comfort measure. If a clinician has named a Geo-Matt overlay, a Geo-Matt PRT cushion, or a Delta pediatric overlay, ask us for that surface. Those are separate Span products.
Who this overlay is for
This overlay is for a person who already has a 34 by 72 inch mattress and wants a softer top for rest, especially when illness, fatigue, or limited mobility makes the existing surface feel hard. Span writes it for comfort. It is a pad that sits on the mattress. It is not a replacement mattress and it is not a powered therapy surface.
Families and directors of care usually call us when they want a simple foam topper, not a pump. If the care team has asked for pressure management, a segmented Geo-Matt overlay, or a Span mattress, we will quote that surface instead. We already stock Span PressureGuard Custom Care and Span-Care surfaces for that work.
- Existing 34 by 72 inch mattresses in home care
- Anyone who wants a 2, 3, or 4 inch egg-crate comfort pad without adding a pump
- Rooms that store pads compressed and open them as needed
Construction and how it works
The Convoluted Foam Overlay is a non-powered comfort pad. Span forms combustion-modified polyurethane foam into peaks and valleys (the egg-crate cut). That open surface adds a layer of give on top of the mattress. There is no gel sheet, no pump, and no published wipeable cover. The pad is bare foam.
Span offers standard density and premium density, and 2, 3, or 4 inch heights, so the room can match how much extra cushion the person wants. Pads ship compression rolled for storage. Span's own note is that convoluted, or egg-crate, overlays are for comfort, not pressure management. When the care plan needs a pressure-management surface, ask us to quote that instead.
Span America Convoluted Foam Overlay specifications
These figures are for the six convoluted codes SP22R-000, SP22S-000, SP32R-000, SP35S-000, SP45R-000, and SP45S-000. They are not the Geo-Matt overlay, Geo-Matt PRT, or Delta sheets. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Span lists every pad at 72 inches long by 34 inches wide. Heights are 2 inches (SP22R-000 and SP22S-000), 3 inches (SP32R-000 and SP35S-000), or 4 inches (SP45R-000 and SP45S-000). R is premium density. S is standard density. Case packs are 12 for the 2 inch pads, 6 for the 3 inch pads, and 4 for the 4 inch pads. The foam is combustion-modified polyurethane. The overlay is non-powered. Span does not publish a weight limit or a warranty year for this overlay.

Span does not publish an 80 inch, 84 inch, or wider convoluted pad. If the deck is the Span America Encore ReadyWide surface (36 to 42 inches), or a 35 by 80 inch hospital mattress, ask us for a Span surface in that size.
Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this overlay across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, unroll it, and place it on the mattress before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see an overlay first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased overlays are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital mattresses and overlays are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the overlay is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Which mattresses and beds this overlay fits
Span publishes the Convoluted Foam Overlay in one footprint: 34 inches wide by 72 inches long. It sits on top of a mattress of that size. Span does not list bed-model names for this pad, and Span does not publish an 80 inch or 36 inch convoluted SKU.
The Span America Advantage we already sell has a 35 by 80 inch sleep deck. This overlay is 34 by 72 inches, so it is a comfort pad for a 34 by 72 inch mattress, not a full-length fill for that 35 by 80 inch deck. The Span America Encore expands from 36 to 42 inches, so we size a different Span surface for that platform. See all hospital beds if you are still choosing a frame, and all medical mattresses if you need a full mattress instead of a pad.
When a clinician has asked for a Span pressure-management surface instead of this comfort pad, we already stock PressureGuard Custom Care Convertible LAL, non-powered Custom Care, and Span-Care Convertible. Ask us to add the matching width to the quote.
Service and warranty
When something on the overlay needs work, you call the shop that set it up. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Span America manufacturer warranty
Span does not publish a warranty year for this overlay. We still handle any manufacturing issue with you. Ask us for the current Span America terms on your order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Span America Convoluted Foam Overlay?
It is Span America's egg-crate comfort pad. Span cuts combustion-modified polyurethane foam into a peaked surface and ships it compression rolled. Every pad is 34 by 72 inches, in 2, 3, or 4 inch height and standard or premium density.
Is this a pressure-management mattress?
No. Span writes convoluted, or egg-crate, overlays as a comfort measure, not as pressure management. If the care team has asked for a pressure-management surface, we will quote a Span overlay or mattress built for that work.
How is this different from the Geo-Matt overlay?
This pad is an egg-crate comfort overlay in 34 by 72 inches. The Geo-Matt overlay is a different Span product: a segmented foam overlay with more than 800 cells, sold in its own sizes and covers. Ask us if the clinician named Geo-Matt.
How is this different from Geo-Matt PRT and the Delta pediatric overlay?
Geo-Matt PRT is a Span wheelchair seat cushion, not a mattress overlay. The Delta overlay is Span's pediatric and infant surface, with its own sizes and a weight note under 70 lb. Those are separate pages. This page is the adult 34 by 72 inch convoluted comfort pad.
Does this overlay need a pump?
No. The Convoluted Foam Overlay is non-powered. There is no pump to plug in or to hear at night.
What sizes can I get?
Every pad is 72 inches long by 34 inches wide. Choose 2, 3, or 4 inches high, in standard or premium density. Codes are SP22R-000, SP22S-000, SP32R-000, SP35S-000, SP45R-000, and SP45S-000. The default on this page is the 2 inch premium case.
Which mattresses does this overlay fit?
It fits a 34 by 72 inch mattress. Span does not publish an 80 inch or wider convoluted pad. The Span America Advantage deck is 35 by 80 inches, so we quote a different Span surface when you need that full deck filled.
Does it have a cover? How do I clean it?
Span does not publish a cover SKU for this overlay. It is a bare foam pad. If the room needs a wipeable surface, ask us for a Span overlay or mattress that ships with a cover.
What is the weight rating?
Span does not publish a weight limit for this overlay. Tell us the person's weight when you order and we will confirm the right Span surface.
What is the warranty?
Span does not publish a warranty year for this overlay. Westin Healthcare still processes any manufacturing issue. Ask us for the current terms when we quote.
Can funding help pay for this overlay in Ontario?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds or mattresses. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community programs may still help, depending on the person. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
What is included?
You get the Span America Convoluted Foam Overlay in the height and density you pick, compression rolled. The mattress and the bed frame are sold separately.
