Description
The Drive Scout 3 wheel scooter is a compact 3-wheel travel scooter from Drive Medical. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Drive's current Scout Compact 3-Wheel card (SKU SFSCOUT3) rates it at 14.5 km (9 miles) with the standard 12V x 12AH pair, 6.8 km/h (4.25 mph), and 136 kg (300 lb). It takes apart into five pieces. The heaviest piece is the 13.2 kg (29 lb) front section. This is a take-apart travel scooter, not a folding scooter and not a full-size outdoor scooter.
Who this scooter is for
This scooter is for a person who wants a light 3-wheel travel scooter for indoor paths, shops, and smooth outdoor pavement, and who can handle a take-apart scooter in a car trunk. Families usually call us when a full-size scooter will not fit the car, or when a tight turning radius matters more than four-wheel stability.
If you want the same Scout family with a wider stance, see the Drive Scout 4-Wheel Travel Scooter. If you want a scooter that folds in one motion instead of coming apart, see the Drive ZooMe Flex. The Scout 3 is not a recreational 24 km/h scooter.
- 3-wheel travel class, 52 cm (20.5") wide
- Takes apart; heaviest piece 13.2 kg (29 lb)
- 136 kg (300 lb) rating, 14.5 km (9 miles) with the 12AH pair
Range, speed, and batteries
Drive prints a top speed of 6.8 km/h (4.25 mph) and a maximum range of 14.5 km (9 miles) on the standard 12V x 12AH pair. That range is the manufacturer figure for a full charge. Real distance drops with rider weight, cold weather, hills, stop-and-go use, and battery age.
The pack is a quick-connect 12V x 12AH pair charged on Drive's 2A off-board charger. Charge after each day of use. Drive's current card does not print a clock-time to full. Drive does not print a 20AH range on the current SFSCOUT3 card, so we do not print one here.
Portability and transport
The Scout 3 takes apart for the car: basket, seat, battery pack, tiller, then the front and rear sections. Drive lists total weight 38.6 kg (85 lb) and the heaviest piece 13.2 kg (29 lb). That is car-trunk work for many households. It is not a one-hand fold.
Drive does not call the Scout 3 an airline scooter. The batteries are a 12V x 12AH pair, not the ZooMe lithium pack. If the scooter has to fly, tell the airline before you travel and follow that carrier's mobility-aid rules. Do not plan on cabin lithium rules that apply to a 259 Wh pack.
Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter specifications

Colour
Use Color to start with the red or blue interchangeable panels. Drive includes both colours so scuffs are easier to hide. Ask us if you want the other panel set with the scooter.
3-wheel Scout or 4-wheel Scout
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter turns in 45.5 inches and is 20.5 inches wide, so it is the tighter indoor Scout. The Drive Scout 4-Wheel Travel Scooter uses the same 6.8 km/h (4.25 mph) speed, 14.5 km (9 miles) 12AH range, and 136 kg (300 lb) rating, with a 53.75 inch turn, 21.5 inch width, 42.6 kg (94 lb) total weight, and a 17.7 kg (39 lb) heaviest piece. Choose three wheels for doorways and shops. Choose four wheels if you want a wider stance on uneven pavement.
If you would rather fold than take apart, compare the Drive ZooMe Flex and the Drive ZooMe Auto-Flex.
Funding help for a mobility scooter in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a mobility scooter when the need is long-term and the scooter is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every scooter qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

If the scooter is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Drive manufacturer warranty

Frequently asked questions
How far can a mobility scooter go?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter is rated up to 14.5 km (9 miles) on Drive's standard 12V x 12AH pair. Hills, cold, extra weight, and an older pack shorten that figure.
How long does a mobility scooter battery last?
Drive covers SFSCOUT3 batteries for 12 months on the current card. How many seasons a pack works depends on charge habits, storage, and how often the scooter is used. Charge after each day of use and do not leave the pack sitting flat.
How do I charge a mobility scooter?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter charges on Drive's 2A off-board charger through the quick-connect 12V x 12AH pack. Charge after you finish for the day. Drive does not print a minutes-to-full figure on the current card.
Can I take a mobility scooter on a plane?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter is not sold as an airline lithium scooter. Tell the airline you are bringing a take-apart scooter with a 12V x 12AH pair and follow that carrier's mobility-aid rules. Do not assume cabin lithium rules for a 259 Wh pack.
Can I take a mobility scooter on a cruise?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter can travel as luggage if the cruise line accepts a take-apart scooter with a 12AH pair. Ask the cruise line and the airline that gets you there before you book. Drive does not print a cruise policy on the Scout card.
Can you use a mobility scooter in the rain?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter is built for hard, dry surfaces. Keep it out of rain, standing water, snow, ice, and road salt when you can. If it gets wet, dry it fully before you ride or charge.
What is the turning radius of a travel scooter?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter has a 45.5 inch turning radius on Drive's current card. That is the tighter Scout. The four-wheel Scout turns in 53.75 inches.
What is the weight capacity of a mobility scooter?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter is rated 136 kg (300 lb), rider plus what you carry. Stay at or under that rating.
How much does a mobility scooter weigh?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter weighs 38.6 kg (85 lb) complete on Drive's card. The heaviest piece is the 13.2 kg (29 lb) front section.
Can a mobility scooter fit in a car trunk?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter is designed to take apart into five pieces for a car, van, or truck. Measure the trunk against the 13.2 kg (29 lb) front section and the 42.5 inch length before you rely on one car.
Does ADP cover scooters?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can fund a power scooter when an ADP-registered therapist assesses a long-term need and the scooter is an approved device. Westin Healthcare walks families through the funding page path. We cannot promise that a specific person or a specific Scout will be approved.
3 wheel vs 4 wheel scooter?
The Drive Scout 3-Wheel Travel Scooter is the tighter indoor Scout (45.5 inch turn, 20.5 inch width). The Drive Scout 4-Wheel Travel Scooter is the wider, heavier sibling (53.75 inch turn, 21.5 inch width, 94 lb). Same speed, range, and 300 lb rating.
