Description
The Salute RDX is Blake Medical's micro low air loss mattress with 3-1 alternating pressure. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Blake builds it in Brantford, Ontario, as SKU SALUTERDX.
Blake lists a 500 lb weight capacity and a standard size of 36 inches by 80 inches. Eighteen 8-inch combined cells (4.5 inches of therapy air over 3.5 inches of static air) hold the person if the power goes out. There is no foam base, so the whole surface can be wiped.
Who this mattress is for
This mattress is for a person on a standard 36-inch hospital bed who needs a full air replacement with micro low air loss and a gentle 3-1 cycle. Blake's page states it is used for the maintenance of skin health and the prevention and treatment of stage I-IV pressure injuries. The clinician who knows the person's skin still decides if this class is right.
If you want a Blake surface with a heel slope and Fowler boost, look at the Emotion Micro. If you want a quieter alternating-pressure crib with transfer edges and no true low air loss claim, start with the Fusion APT. If the person is near 500 lbs, do not stretch this surface.
- Home care on a 36-inch by 80-inch full-electric bed
- A therapist request for micro low air loss with a 3-1 cycle
- Anyone within Blake's 500 lb rating who needs static air under the therapy cells if the power fails
Construction and how it works
This is a mattress replacement. Eighteen combined air cells sit on the bed deck. The top 4.5 inches alternate. The bottom 3.5 inches stay static, so the person is still held if the pump stops. Blake's 3-1 cycle deflates one cell in every three, so about two thirds of the body stays supported.
The Salute RDX pump hangs on the footboard. Eight electronic comfort settings work in both alternation and static modes. A mesh centre strip keeps the cells together so they do not spread when the head of the bed is raised. Happy Heel is a digital foot-section softness control for heel float. Blake describes the pump as very quiet and says it uses less energy than a traditional low air loss blower. The cover is quilted nylon and comes off for cleaning. There is no foam base to trap fluid.
Salute RDX specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU SALUTERDX. The specification tab holds the stored values. Blake's current product page lists 18 combined 8-inch cells, a quilted nylon cover, a standard size of 36 inches by 80 inches, custom sizes on request, and a 500 lb / 227 kg weight capacity.
Warranty for the original purchaser is 2 years on the mattress and 1 year on the cover.
Size and what is included
This listing is one size: 36 inches by 80 inches. There is no size picker. You get the 18-cell mattress and the Salute RDX pump. Blake will quote a custom size if the deck is not 36 by 80. Call (905) 451-7743 before you order a custom width.
Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), hardship funding programs, and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Salute RDX different from the Emotion Micro?
Both are Blake micro low air loss surfaces with a 3-1 cycle and static air in the lower part of each cell. The Salute RDX is 18 equal 8-inch cells with Happy Heel. The Emotion Micro uses 14 eight-inch cells plus four 6-inch heel cells, Fowler Boost, and a 440 lb rating.
Is this an overlay or a replacement?
A replacement. The existing mattress comes off. The static lower chamber is air, not foam.
How do I clean the cover?
Blake uses a quilted nylon cover and says the whole surface can be disinfected because there is no foam base. Follow the Salute RDX manual for wipe-down. Do not immerse the pump.
What is the weight rating?
Blake lists 500 lbs / 227 kg for SALUTERDX. Near that limit, ask us about a wider Blake or Wellell surface instead of stretching this one.
What size bed does it fit?
The standard size is 36 inches by 80 inches. Blake will quote a custom size. It is not a 42-inch or 48-inch listing.
How loud is the pump?
Blake describes very quiet pressure redistribution and a lower energy draw than a traditional low air loss blower. Blake does not print a decibel number on the current page.
What is the warranty?
2 years on the mattress and 1 year on the cover for the original purchaser. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.
Does funding cover this mattress in Ontario?
Some Ontario routes can help with a therapeutic support surface. Eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
Can I rent a powered mattress before I buy?
Westin Healthcare rents hospital-bed packages that include a therapeutic mattress. See current packages on the hospital bed rentals page. Ask us whether this Salute RDX system can be added to a rental.
What happens if the power goes out?
The lower 3.5 inches of each cell stay static. Blake designed that chamber so the person is still supported when the pump stops. The surface is not a foam crib.
