Description
The Drive Rebel is Drive Medical's RTLREB18DDA-SF, an 18 inch by 16 inch folding wheelchair with a steel frame. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is a self-propel chair: the person uses the large rear wheels. Drive lists a 37 lb chair and a 300 lb weight capacity.
Drive finishes this SKU in flame red with flip-back desk-length arms and swing-away footrests. The rear wheels come off with a quick-release button, the back folds down, and the frame folds so the chair can ride in a car. It is not a transport chair, and it is not approved as a seat inside a moving vehicle.
Who this chair is for
This chair is for a person who fits an 18 inch by 16 inch seat, is within Drive's 300 lb rating, and can push themselves or has someone to help. Families usually call us when they want a folding steel wheelchair that comes apart for a trunk, without stepping up to Drive's adjustable-depth Cruiser X4.
If you want 16, 18, or 20 inch and a seat depth that adjusts from 16 to 18 inches, start with the Drive Cruiser X4. If you want aluminum, universal arms, and 16 to 22 inch, see the Drive Viper Plus GT. The Rebel is one Drive width: 18 by 16.
- Self-propel trips on an 18 inch seat
- A Drive 300 lb rating on a 37 lb steel frame
- Quick-release rear wheels and a fold-down back for a car trunk
Design and build
The frame is steel. Drive's sheet calls the colour flame red. Arms are desk-length and flip back so a transfer or a table approach is easier. Footrests swing away and come off. A calf strap is in the owner manual assembly steps.
Rear wheels are quick-release. Depress the centre button and the wheel slides out of the axle port. Front casters pull out without tools. Drive does not print a rear-wheel inch size on the Rebel sheet; the layout is still a self-propel chair, not an attendant-only transport chair with small rear wheels.
The back folds down and the frame folds. Drive lists 25.5 inches open and 10.5 inches closed. The owner manual says the chair is not approved as a seat in a motor vehicle. Wheel locks are push-to-lock. Engage both before sitting or standing.
Drive Rebel Wheelchair specifications
These figures are for Westin SKU RTLREB18DDA-SF. The specification tab holds the stored values. Drive's current sheet lists an 18 inch by 16 inch seat, a 37 lb chair, a 42 lb carton, a 300 lb capacity, a 19.5 inch seat-to-floor height, a 17 inch back, 25.5 inches open, and 10.5 inches closed. The retail box on that sheet is 36.4 by 11.3 by 28 inches.
Do not mix these numbers with the Cruiser X4. That family is 16, 18, or 20 inch, aluminum and carbon steel, and Drive lists 33.5 lb or less excluding front riggings. The Rebel is the one-width steel chair.
Warranty for the original purchaser is Drive's Lifetime Limited term: defects in materials and workmanship for the life of that purchaser. It does not cover misuse, negligence, or normal wear, and it does not extend to rubber accessories, casters, and grips.

Funding help for a manual wheelchair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a manual wheelchair when the need is long-term and the chair is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every chair qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between this wheelchair and a transport chair?
A standard wheelchair has large rear wheels so the person can push themselves. A transport chair has small rear wheels and is built for a caregiver to push. The Rebel is a self-propel folding wheelchair, not a transport chair.
Who pushes the Rebel?
The person in the chair, using the hand rims on the rear wheels. A companion can also push from the back canes. Wheel locks are used before sitting and standing.
Will it fold into a car trunk?
Drive lists 10.5 inches closed. The rear wheels come off, the back folds down, and the frame folds. We can show you the fold at delivery. It is not approved as a seat inside a moving vehicle.
What seat width do I need?
This SKU is 18 inches by 16 inches. Measure the seated hip width and leave a little room on each side. If you need 16 or 20 inch, or a seat depth that changes, use the Cruiser X4.
What is the weight capacity?
Drive lists 300 lbs for RTLREB18DDA-SF. Stay at or under that rating.
How is the Rebel different from the Cruiser X4?
Rebel is one 18 by 16 steel chair at 37 lb. Cruiser X4 is 16, 18, or 20 inch, aluminum and carbon steel, with a seat depth that adjusts from 16 to 18 inches. Drive lists the Cruiser at 33.5 lb or less excluding front riggings.
What is the warranty?
Drive's sheet and owner manual print a Lifetime Limited term for the original purchaser. Wear items such as casters and grips are outside that term. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.
Can funding help with this chair in Ontario?
Some Ontario routes can help with mobility equipment. Eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
Can I rent a manual wheelchair before I buy?
Westin Healthcare rents some mobility equipment. Ask us whether a manual wheelchair can go out as a rental for your dates. Purchased chairs are delivered on a scheduled date.
Do the rear wheels come off?
Yes. Drive's owner manual shows a spring-loaded button in the axle. Depress it and slide the wheel out. That is how the chair packs smaller for a trunk.
