The Ride Designs Custom Back is Ride's made-to-shape wheelchair back for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Sunrise Medical's Canadian Ride card now notes a softer foam option. The back is quote-only through Westin as a Ride certified provider.

It is not a Java Back. Hardware is FlexLoc, not the Java quick-release clamp.

Who this back is for

The Ride Custom Back fits a person whose seating therapist wants a back made to a captured shape, or in some cases made from measurements. Ride says people with significant postural asymmetry get a better outcome from a scanned shape. A seating therapist should confirm the path. This page does not give clinical positioning advice.

Mount hardware

The Ride Custom Back mounts with FlexLoc in fixed or quick-release. Single FlexLoc is the 250 lb path. Double FlexLoc is the 300 lb path. Angle is infinite with single FlexLoc. Seat-depth range is up to and potentially beyond 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) depending on the hardware. We do not invent a cane diameter for FlexLoc on this page.

User weight 250 lbs (113 kg) with single FlexLoc or 300 lbs (136 kg) with double FlexLoc. Shell polypropylene with a styrene inner. Insert high-resilience 3D spacer or polyurethane, with extra padding options. Cover breathable polyester spacer, or a wipeable incontinence cover. Growth kits and a headrest plate are order lines.

Warranty is 24 months from delivery on the back and 90 days on the cover, plus Ride's 180 day Fit and Function Guarantee from ship.

How Ride custom seating is ordered

Ride Designs sells through Ride certified providers. Westin is that dealer path in Brampton and the GTA. A seating therapist and our staff assess first. For Custom 2, Custom AccuSoft from a shape, and Custom Back from a shape, Ride captures a bead-bag shape, scans it, and sends the scan, photos, and order form through the RideWorks app. Ride keeps the scan for later growth or a remake.

Ride also prints a made-from-measurements path for some Custom Back and AccuSoft orders, and AccuSoft can be specified from a trial Java Cushion. Ride says people with significant postural asymmetry get a better outcome from a scanned shape. Java and Forward cushions, and Java and Java Decaf backs, are configured stock shapes, not scanned custom, but they are still quote-only here.

Which Ride wheelchair back

Stay with the Ride Custom Back if a scanned or measured custom shell is the brief. The Ride Java Back is the configured adult Java. Pair a custom back with the Ride Custom 2 Cushion or the Ride Custom AccuSoft Cushion.

Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario

This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin's own team delivers this wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, check it against the wheelchair, and show you the cover and any hardware before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a sample first. For a scheduled in-home drop-off, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased seating is delivered on a scheduled date after the assessment and quote.

Ride Designs prints a 24 month limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original purchaser on the Custom Back, and 90 days on the cover. Custom products also carry Ride's 180 day Fit and Function Guarantee from ship. Weight change or surgery does not qualify. We handle the claim with you.
