Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a person who needs a powered support surface with more than one therapy mode, including low air loss for moisture and a 600 lb safe working load. Blake also names heavy perspiration, long hours in bed, and a heel zone that can be softened by hand. It suits home care after a hospital stay, long-term care, and bariatric decks at 42 or 48 inches.

Construction and how it works

The Rhythm Multi is a powered low air loss and alternating-pressure system. Blake's current page and brochure describe 18 air cells, each 8 inches, over a 2 inch convoluted foam base, inside a quilted nylon zipper cover. A mesh centre strip keeps the cells from parting when the person sits. A glide sheet on the base helps with transfers. The blower, printed at up to 1,200 litres per minute, also wicks moisture. Blake says the surface can wick up to 1.5 litres of fluid in 24 hours.

Three modes sit on the same control unit. Static low air loss holds the cells inflated and moves air for microclimate. 3-1 alternation deflates one cell in every three so two-thirds of the body stays supported. Pulsation gently raises and lowers pressure across all 18 cells for people who cannot tolerate alternation. The Prius user manual Blake hosts says pulsation runs on a 90 second cycle, Auto Firm is for transfers and care, Happy Heel is a manual heel-softness dial, and a hand check should show about 2 inches of clearance above the foam base.

The control unit hangs on the footboard. Blake's brochure lists 10 digital comfort settings, keypad lockout, visual and audio alarms for low pressure and power failure, and CPR deflation in under 20 seconds. The Prius manual describes the case as double-insulated for near-silent operation. Periodic repositioning is still required; the manual says so in its caution list.
