Description

The Quantum Q6 Edge HD is a heavy-duty mid-wheel Category 3 power wheelchair from Quantum Rehab. Westin Healthcare configures it to an ADP-registered therapist's prescription and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This is a prescription rehab base, not a stock cart chair. Quantum's current spec sheet rates the HD at 450 lbs (400 lbs with iLevel), 4.7 mph, a 19.75 inch turning radius, and a 26.25 inch base. Seat width and depth start at 20 inches. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assessment comes first. For eligible clients, ADP can fund 75% of the approved price.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who needs a mid-wheel power base, a 450 lb rating, and seating that can change as needs change, and who fits a 20 inch or wider seat. Families usually call us when a 300 lb Edge 3 is not enough capacity, or when TRU-Balance 3 HD tilt, lift, or iLevel is on the therapy plan.

If 300 lbs and a 24.4 inch base are enough, start with the Quantum Edge 3. If front-wheel drive is a better match for the terrain, see the Quantum 4Front 2. The Edge HD is not a folding travel chair.

  • ADP Category 3 / Adult Power Base Type 3 (device code WP0001058)
  • 450 lb rating (400 lb with iLevel)
  • Mid-wheel 6, 26.25 inch base, 19.75 inch turning radius

Design and build

Quantum builds the Q6 Edge HD as a Mid-Wheel 6 base with 14 inch flat-free drive wheels (pneumatic or knobby optional) and 6 inch solid casters front and rear. ATX suspension with Active-Trac is how Quantum describes the ride over uneven ground. Motors are 4-pole, rated at 4.7 mph.

TRU-Balance 3 HD seating is the manufacturer seating family. Synergy and static seats run 20 to 32 inches wide and 20 to 28 inches deep. Power tilt and lift-and-tilt use a narrower official range. Optional iLevel needs at least a 20 by 20 inch seat and is capped at 24 by 25 inches and 400 lbs. Q-Logic 3 EX or 3e electronics, plus 75 amp NE options, are on the spec sheet. Specialty controls can be ordered. The chair does not fold.

Quantum Q6 Edge HD specifications

These figures are for the Q6 Edge HD as printed on Quantum Rehab's current North American spec sheet. The specification tab holds the stored values. Quantum does not print a drive range on that sheet, so we do not print one here.

Weight capacity 450 lbs, or 400 lbs with iLevel. Top speed up to 4.7 mph. Turning radius 19.75 inches. Overall length 35.6 inches without foot riggings. Base width 26.25 inches. Ground clearance 3 inches at the frame centre. Batteries Group 24, 52 lbs each. Charger 8 amp off-board. Base weight 143.5 lbs. Seat-to-floor: Synergy/static 16.5 to 18.5 inches; power tilt 18.5 to 20.5 inches; lift and tilt 18.5 to 20.5 inches.

Warranty for a Canadian purchaser follows Quantum's Canada insert: lifetime limited on the main frame and fixed-position seat post, 2 years on electronics, motors, actuators, and accessories, 6 months on bearings, and 12 months on Quantum-supplied batteries.

Colour, seat width, and seat depth

Use Color, Seat Width, and Seat Depth as the starting size and finish on the order. The therapist and Westin then complete TRU-Balance 3 HD seating, electronics, and power functions on the Quantum order form. Official HD seating goes wider and deeper than the 20 to 24 inch starting pairs. If a size you need is not in Seat Width or Seat Depth, ask us. We will write it on the form.

Do not treat those three choices as a finished chair. A Category 3 power wheelchair is configured after assessment.

ADP funding for a Category 3 wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

After the chair is approved and built to the prescription, Westin's own team delivers and sets it up across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the joystick, charger, and seating functions before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a heavy-duty mid-wheel first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

This power wheelchair is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Quantum manufacturer warranty

Quantum's current Canada insert is lifetime limited on the main frame and fixed-position seat post, 2 years on electronics, motors, actuators, and accessories, 6 months on bearings and bushings, and 12 months on Quantum-supplied batteries. Wear items such as tyres, shrouds, and upholstery are outside that term. We handle the claim with you.

Frequently asked questions

What does Category 3 mean on this power wheelchair?

Ontario lists the Q6 Edge HD as an Adult Power Base Type 3 device (WP0001058). Type 3 is for people who need ongoing changes in postural support and modifications to electronics, on a base that can work on most surfaces.

Who qualifies for ADP funding?

In general you must be an Ontario resident with a valid health card and a disability that needs a mobility aid for 6 months or longer. An ADP-registered OT or PT has to assess you first. We cannot promise that a specific person will qualify.

How does the 75 / 25 split work?

For eligible clients, ADP pays 75% of the approved price and the person pays 25%. Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD can open 100% of that approved price. Batteries are an example of an extra that ADP does not treat as part of the base device.

What is the assessment process?

An ADP-registered OT or PT examines the person, helps complete the application, and works with Westin on the configuration. Ontario aims to review complete applications within 8 weeks. Do not order before those steps.

Can I try an Edge HD first?

Call (905) 451-7743 and ask what is on the floor. A floor chair is a starting point. The funded chair is built to the prescription.

How should the seat width fit?

The therapist measures seated hip width. Official HD seating starts at 20 inches wide. Use Seat Width and Seat Depth as the starting pair. Wider sizes on the manufacturer sheet can go on the order form even if they are not in those starting pairs.

What is the weight capacity?

Quantum lists 450 lbs, or 400 lbs when iLevel is on the chair. Stay at or under the rating that matches the seating on the order.

Why is there no range figure?

Quantum's current HD spec sheet does not print a range. Range changes with rider weight, terrain, and batteries. We will not invent a kilometre figure.

What if the prescription includes power tilt or recline?

Ontario treats power dynamic tilt and/or recline as high technology. Those chairs are bought through the Central Equipment Pool. Your therapist will say if that path applies.

What happens if ADP declines?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. Do not take delivery on the assumption that funding will arrive later.

What is the warranty?

Lifetime frame, 2 years electronics and motors, 12 months Quantum batteries, on the Canada insert. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

Will it fold into a car trunk?

No. It is a heavy-duty mid-wheel rehab base, 26.25 inches wide, 35.6 inches long without riggings, with a 143.5 lb base before seating and batteries.
