Description
The Savaria Universal Trapeze Bar (manufacturer code Q6730) is the patient helper for a Span bed. Savaria describes it as the patient helper, trapeze bar, chain and hand grip, and on the Encore side as the offset trapeze pole. The offset is the point: it carries the grip out over the person rather than over the head of the bed. Westin Healthcare supplies and fits Span bed parts in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.
A trapeze gives someone a way to lift and turn themselves. That is worth something to the person, who keeps a bit of independence, and to the staff, who are not doing the whole reposition alone.
You need two parts, not one
Read this before you order, because it is the mistake this page exists to prevent. Savaria sells the trapeze as a bar and a mount, under separate codes. The bar is universal across the Span range. The mount is specific to the bed family.
| Bed family | Bar | Mount you also need |
|---|---|---|
| Encore MC9 | Q6730, this product | Q6731 trapeze mounting frame |
| Advantage ReadyWide MC7 | Q6730, this product | Q6731 trapeze bed mounting bracket |
| Advantage QD1000 | Q6730, this product | Q6733 patient helper trapeze mounting bracket |
| Rexx and Rexx Fast | Q6730, this product | Q6622 patient helper bracket or Q6722 dual socket trapeze bracket |
If you have an Encore or a ReadyWide, the pair you want is this bar plus the Savaria trapeze mounting frame, Q6731. Order the bar on its own and you will have a pole with nothing to seat it in. Tell us the bed model when you order and we will put both lines on the quote.
Span's own manuals treat them as one accessory, listing "Trapeze - Patient Helper Bracket and Bar" as a single optional item. That is the clearest sign that they are meant to arrive together.
Which beds this fits
Savaria describes Q6730 as the universal trapeze bar for all bed models, and Span prints the code in both the Encore and the ReadyWide item-code tables. The beds we carry it for are the Span Encore, the Advantage ReadyWide MC7 range, the Span Advantage Q-Series, and the Span Rexx. What changes between them is the mount, not the bar.
One caution on the Rexx family. The Rexx brochure lists its own patient helper bar code, Q5302, with the same description as Q6730. Whether Q6730 supersedes it is not published, so if you have a Rexx, call (905) 451-7743 and we will confirm the current pair with Savaria before ordering.
This is not a universal fit for any manufacturer's bed. Savaria is describing its own range, and Span states that parts from other manufacturers must not be fitted to its beds. If you need a trapeze for a different bed, or a free-standing one that does not attach to a bed at all, see our trapeze bars range.
Savaria universal trapeze bar specifications
Savaria publishes the code and the description. It does not publish a bar length, a chain adjustment range, a grip type, or a material, and this table does not invent them.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Manufacturer code | Q6730 |
| Type | Patient helper trapeze bar with chain and hand grip; offset pole |
| Savaria fit statement | All bed models |
| Mount | Separate code, specific to the bed family |
| Bracket and bar weight | 43 lb combined, as listed in the Span owner manuals |
| Classification | Applied part per ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1:2005 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1-08 |
| Warranty | 1 year |
The 43 lb figure is the combined weight of the bracket and the bar as Span lists them together in the bed owner manuals. It is a shipping and handling figure, not a load rating, and it is not the weight of the bar on its own.
What a trapeze is rated to hold
We will give you a straight answer: Span does not publish a safe working load or a user weight limit for this trapeze in any brochure or owner manual we have. So we do not quote one, and you should be wary of any figure you find on a marketplace listing, because those numbers belong to other manufacturers' free-standing trapezes and have nothing to do with this part.
If a rating is what decides your order, call (905) 451-7743 and we will get it from Savaria in writing before you commit. It is the first question we put to them on this product.
What Span does publish is the bed's safe working load, and that is a total that includes the patient, the accessories, the options, and the bedding.
| Bed | Safe working load | Maximum patient weight |
|---|---|---|
| Encore MC9 | 600 lb (272 kg) | 450 lb (204 kg) |
| ReadyWide MC7 Standard | 500 lb (227 kg) | 350 lb (159 kg) |
| ReadyWide MC7 Plus | 650 lb (295 kg) | Ask us |
The bracket and bar together are 43 lb of that allowance before anyone gets in the bed, so it is worth doing the addition on a bed that is also carrying an air surface, rails, and boards.
Mounting it safely
The Span owner manuals carry a warning about this exact accessory, and it is worth reading in full rather than paraphrasing: follow the manufacturer instructions when mounting or assembling accessories, especially the Patient Helper Bar, because this bar could fall and result in injury or death.
That is why we would rather fit it than ship it and hope. Our technicians install these across Brampton and the GTA, and Span restricts preventative maintenance on its beds to authorized personnel. The manuals also state that parts and accessories not provided by Span Medical Products Canada must not be used on a Span bed, and that other manufacturers' parts invalidate the warranty and could damage the bed.
Once it is fitted, check the fasteners at the regular service interval. Span asks that bed maintenance items be reviewed every 6 to 12 months depending on how hard the bed is used, and that all fasteners be tightened and seated within the specified torque limits. On an overhead assist device that is not a formality.
One more thing from the manuals: Span classifies the trapeze as an applied part alongside the decks, side rails, patient assists, boards, and hand pendant, under the medical electrical equipment standards the beds are certified to. Clean it as you would the rest of the bed: a damp cloth or sponge with warm water and a mild detergent or a diluted neutral disinfectant, no solvents, alcohol, or petroleum products, and no high pressure washing.
Delivery and installation in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and fits Span bed parts across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a part first. To book a technician visit, call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page.
The bracket and bar together are 43 lb, so this is a heavy carton rather than a parcel. If it travels with a bed, the bed is oversized and White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed or an accessory needs work, you call the shop that supplied it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or the workplace.
Span manufacturer warranty
Span Medical Products Canada warrants beds and bed accessories against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use from the date of initial delivery. Bed accessories carry one year, and that is the row this bar sits in. Parts subject to wear carry one year. Electrical components, meaning the control box and the actuators, carry five years. The frame and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years. The manufacturer warranty does not cover labour for service, and fitting parts from other manufacturers to a Span bed invalidates it. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the manufacturer code?
Q6730. Savaria lists it as the universal trapeze bar for all bed models. Span prints it as the patient helper, trapeze bar, chain and hand grip on the ReadyWide, and as the offset trapeze pole on the Encore.
Do I need anything else to fit it?
Yes. You need the mount for your bed family, and it is a separate code: Q6731 for MC7 and MC9, Q6733 for Advantage, and Q6622 or Q6722 for Rexx. Order the bar alone and it will not attach to the bed.
How much weight will the trapeze hold?
Span does not publish a safe working load or user weight limit for this trapeze, so we do not quote one, and we would not trust a figure taken from a marketplace listing for someone else's trapeze. If a rating decides your order, call (905) 451-7743 and we will get it from Savaria in writing first.
What does the 43 lb figure mean?
It is the combined weight of the bracket and the bar, as Span lists them together in the bed owner manuals. It is a handling and load-allowance figure, not a capacity, and not the weight of the bar alone.
Does it fit any hospital bed?
It fits across the Span range, which is what Savaria means by universal, provided you have the right mount for that bed family. It is not a part for a Drive, Invacare, or Joerns bed. For a bed we do not have a Span mount for, or for a free-standing unit, see our trapeze bars range.
Can our maintenance staff install it?
Ask us first. Span warns that the Patient Helper Bar could fall and cause injury or death if it is not mounted according to the manufacturer instructions, and restricts preventative maintenance on its beds to authorized personnel. Our technicians fit these across Brampton and the GTA.
Will it get in the way of the side rails or the boards?
The mount is what determines that, and it is bed-specific for exactly this reason. Tell us your bed model and what rails and boards are on it, and we will confirm the layout with Savaria before you order.
How do I clean it?
The same way you clean the bed. A damp cloth or sponge, warm water with a mild detergent or a diluted neutral disinfectant, and no solvents, alcohol, or petroleum products. Do not pressure wash it. Span classifies the trapeze as an applied part alongside the rails and the decks.
What is the warranty?
One year, the Span bed accessory term. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty. Our service department handles the claim with you.
