Description

The Span America Geo-Mattress Plus is the mid-range dual-layer foam hospital mattress in the Geo-Mattress line. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it on the bed for homes and care settings in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

A soft high-performance top lets the person immerse, and a firmer bottom layer adds stability. The Geo-Matt segmented surface and Heel Slope are part of this Plus build. This listing is the Plus tier only. The single-layer Pro, the three-layer Max with viscoelastic heel and side bolsters, the 350 prevention mattress, UltraMax, the HC homecare mattress, and the Atlas bariatric mattress are separate Span surfaces.

Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a person on a hospital-style or long-term care bed who needs a non-powered foam surface for prevention of pressure injuries, including people at moderate to high risk for skin breakdown, people with decreased mobility, and people who still reposition often by themselves or with a caregiver. Span writes those indications for Geo-Mattress Plus.

Families and purchasing coordinators usually call us when a therapist has asked for a dual-layer Geo-Mattress, not a pump, and the person is within the Plus weight rating. If the care team has asked for a single-layer value foam, a three-layer Max, a homecare HC, or a bariatric Atlas, ask us for that tier instead of stretching this one.

  • 35 inch decks such as the Span America Advantage, using the 80 by 35 inch Plus (PL8035-29)
  • 42 inch expanded decks such as the Span America Encore after ReadyWide expansion, using the 42 inch firm-perimeter Plus
  • Users within Span's 400 lb rating on 35 inch sizes, or the 500 lb rating Span prints for 39 inch and 42 inch sizes

Construction and how it works

The Plus is a non-powered foam mattress. Span describes a dual-layer, progressive-resistance core: a soft high-performance top for immersion and a bottom layer for stability. The Geo-Matt topper is 2 inches deep, with more than 800 individually articulating cells in head, torso, and foot zones. That cut reduces shear on the tissues underneath and helps move heat and moisture away from the skin.

Heel Slope tapers the foot end so load moves onto the lower legs. Span states heel pressures 27% lower than flat designs on this Plus build. Ring-of-Air is the air space around those cells that helps the foam follow the body. The cover is fluid-proof and wipe-clean, with a bacteriostatic top, a tri-laminate bottom, a hidden zipper, and a vapor barrier. There is no pump and no air hose.

Span America Geo-Mattress Plus specifications

These figures are for the Geo-Mattress Plus family. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Span lists a 6 inch height at the centre and a mattress weight of about 22 lb. Weight limit is 400 lb on 35 inch sizes and 500 lb on 39 inch and 42 inch sizes. Warranty is 6 years non-prorated on the core and 2 years on the cover. Fire tests Span names for Plus are NFPA 101 (ASTM E1590), California Technical Bulletin 117, and 16 CFR 1632 and 1633.

Size options

Use Choose Mattress Size. The default on this page is 80 x 35 in (PL8035-29), the usual match for a 35 inch by 80 inch hospital deck. Several wider and consumer sizes have a short factory lead time.

  • 80 x 35 in (PL8035-29)
  • 75 x 35 in (PL7535-29)
  • 84 x 35 in (PL8435-29)
  • 78 x 35 in (PL7835-29)
  • 80 x 32 in (PL8032-29)
  • 80 x 42 in, firm perimeter (PL8042FP-29)
  • 84 x 42 in, firm perimeter (PL8442FP-29)
  • Twin 75 x 39 in (PL7539-29)
  • Full 75 x 54 in (PL7554-29)
  • Queen 80 x 60 in (PL8060-29)
  • King 80 x 76 in (PL8076-29)

Measure the sleep deck before you pick. Span publishes Plus in 32, 35, 39, 42, 54, 60, and 76 inch widths and in 75, 78, 80, and 84 inch lengths. A 36 inch deck is not a printed Plus width. Call (905) 451-7743 if your frame is 36 inches so we can confirm the closest size.

Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this mattress across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, place it on the bed, and show you the cover and the heel slope before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a mattress first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased mattresses are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital mattresses are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the mattress is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Which beds this mattress fits

Span sizes Geo-Mattress Plus to the bed widths and lengths above. Match the Plus width and length to the sleep deck on the frame you will run.

Those sizes match sleep decks on Span beds we already sell. The 80 by 35 inch Plus (PL8035-29) matches the 35 inch by 80 inch deck on the Span America Advantage. The 42 inch firm-perimeter Plus matches a 42 inch expanded deck on the Span America Encore. We also stock Span ReadyWide frames and can quote a Plus in the width that frame will run. See all hospital beds if you are still choosing a platform, and all medical mattresses if you need a different therapy class.

If a clinician has asked for a Span air or convertible surface instead of this foam, we already stock Span PressureGuard Custom Care (non-powered), Custom Care Convertible with low air loss, and Span-Care Convertible. Ask us to quote those from stock.

Service and warranty

When something on the mattress needs work, you call the shop that set it up. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Span America manufacturer warranty

Span America's published warranty for Geo-Mattress Plus is 6 years, non-prorated, on the mattress core, and 2 years on the cover. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Geo-Mattress Plus a powered mattress?

No. Plus is a non-powered foam surface. There is no pump and no hose. If the care team has asked for alternating pressure or low air loss, ask us about a Span PressureGuard surface instead.

How is Plus different from Geo-Mattress Pro and Geo-Mattress Max?

Plus is the dual-layer mid-range mattress: 400 lb on 35 inch sizes and a 6-year core warranty. Pro is a single-layer foam with a 300 lb rating and a 5-year core. Max is a three-layer foam with a viscoelastic heel, side bolsters, and a 7-year core. This page sells Plus only.

How is Plus different from Geo-Mattress 350, HC, UltraMax, and Atlas?

Those are other Geo-Mattress tiers on their own pages. 350 is a prevention foam with a 350 lb rating. HC is a homecare foam without the Geo-Matt cut or Heel Slope. UltraMax is the ultra-high-performance foam. Atlas is the bariatric foam. Ask us if the care team named one of those instead of Plus.

How do I clean the cover?

Span specifies a fluid-proof, wipe-clean, bacteriostatic top with a hidden zipper and a tri-laminate bottom. Wipe it with the disinfectant your clinician allows.

What is the weight rating?

Span rates the 35 inch Plus at 400 lb, and rates 39 inch and 42 inch Plus sizes at 500 lb. Tell us the person's weight and the deck width when you order.

What sizes can I get?

Institutional Plus sizes are 75, 78, 80, and 84 inches long and 32, 35, or 42 inches wide. Consumer sizes are Twin 75 by 39, Full 75 by 54, Queen 80 by 60, and King 80 by 76. The default is 80 by 35 inches (PL8035-29).

Which bed does this mattress fit?

Match the Plus width and length to the sleep deck. A 35 by 80 inch Plus fits the Span America Advantage. A 42 inch firm-perimeter Plus fits a 42 inch expanded Span America Encore. Measure a 36 inch deck with us before you pick, because Span does not print a 36 inch Plus.

Is there a pump to hear at night?

No. There is no pump.

What is the warranty?

Span publishes 6 years, non-prorated, on the Plus core and 2 years on the cover. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.

Does ADP cover this mattress in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds or mattresses. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community programs may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.

Can I try this mattress before I buy?

Westin Healthcare rents standard full-electric hospital beds that include a therapeutic mattress. The Geo-Mattress Plus itself is a purchase item. Ask us when you call if a short in-home look at a foam surface would help before you order Plus.

What is included?

You get the Span America Geo-Mattress Plus in the size you pick, with the fluid-proof cover on it. The bed frame is sold separately. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets up across Brampton and the GTA.
