Adapt starts as a 7 inch foam replacement with three removable Gel swirl inserts. You can take those inserts out and add up to two Vicair or ROHO air sections (sold separately) if the therapist wants air at the sacrum or heel. Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a person at high risk of skin breakdown who may need a ROHO or Vicair section added later, without buying a whole new surface. Families and therapists usually call us when someone already uses a ROHO mattress section, when a standard foam mattress is not enough at the sacrum or heel, or when the care plan may change over the next year.

5 Minds Mobility describes Adapt as the modifiable surface for clients at high risk of experiencing skin breakdown who may require ROHO mattress sections. It is not an alternating-pressure system. If the care plan already names a pump, look at the Permobil Atlas Hybrid or a powered surface instead.

Construction and how it works

Adapt is a reactive foam mattress with patented Shear Reduction Technology. SRT is a low-friction layer inside the foam that lets the upper and lower parts of the surface move so shear on the skin is reduced when the person slides or when the head of the bed is raised. The mattress ships with three removable Gel swirl foam inserts, a firm head section, softer mid and heel sections, firm borders, and a raised sleep surface.

You can remove Gel swirl inserts and fit up to two Vicair or ROHO air mattress sections. Those sections are sold under Upgrades, or we can quote them later. The cover is a full enclosure with a Recovery 5 top. Permobil also lists a Recovery 5 Ultra cover and a custom raised bolster as factory upgrades. Ask us if the therapist named either of those. Wipe the cover with neutral soap and lukewarm water. Ask before anyone uses a washing machine.

These figures are for the Adapt family Westin quotes. The specification tab holds the stored values. Permobil's January 2026 surfaces guide lists a 7 inch height, an 80 inch length (84 inches on 36 and 42 inch widths), widths from 36 to 60 inches, and a 350 or 500 lb capacity by size.

36 and 39 inch rows are 350 lb. 42, 48, 54, and 60 inch rows are 500 lb. Custom sizes are available if you call. Warranty for the original purchaser is a 2 year limited warranty on the 5 Minds Mobility mattress and cover. ROHO and Vicair sections carry their own manufacturer terms.

AD3680 is the 36 by 80 inch, 350 lb base. AD4880 is the 48 by 80 inch, 500 lb base. There is no manufacturer part AD4820. If a quote or chart used that code, it is the 48 inch Adapt, which we sell as AD4880.

Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Westin's own team delivers and sets up this mattress across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, place it on the bed, and show you the cover and any air insert before we leave.

Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased mattresses are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital mattresses are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the mattress is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Which Westin beds this mattress fits

Match the mattress width to the sleep deck. A 36 inch Adapt sits on the Permobil Halsa and on the Drive Delta 1000. A 42 inch Adapt needs a 42 inch deck such as the Drive 15300LW. Wider rows need the matching 48 or 54 inch Drive bariatric frame. Call us for a 60 inch deck.

When the cover, the foam, or an insert needs work, you call the shop that set the mattress up. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Frequently asked questions

How is Adapt different from a plain foam mattress?

Adapt uses Shear Reduction Technology inside the foam and ships with removable Gel swirl inserts. You can swap those inserts for up to two ROHO or Vicair air sections. A plain foam mattress such as Somn does not open for those sections and does not use SRT.

How do I clean the Adapt cover?

The Recovery 5 enclosure is removable. Wipe it with neutral soap and lukewarm water, rinse, and let it dry. Ask us before anyone puts it in a washing machine. Do not use harsh solvents. Iodophor disinfectants can stain this kind of fabric.

What is the weight rating?

Permobil prints 350 lb on 36 and 39 inch Adapt rows and 500 lb on 42, 48, 54, and 60 inch rows. That rating is for the person on the mattress, not the bed frame. The bed has its own limit. Use the lower of the two.

What size do I need?

Measure the sleep deck. Adapt is 7 inches high. Length is 80 inches, or 84 inches on the 36 and 42 inch long rows. Widths run 36, 39, 42, 48, 54, and 60 inches. The mattress should match the deck width.

Does Adapt have a pump?

No. Adapt is non-powered foam. ROHO and Vicair sections are also non-powered. If you need a pump and alternating pressure, that is a different surface.

What is the warranty on the Permobil Adapt?

No. Adapt 2 is a different 6 inch modular system with its own part numbers. This listing is the 7 inch Adapt with three Gel swirl inserts and room for up to two air sections.
