Description

The Permobil Pro-Care Optima is a powered alternating-pressure hospital mattress system sold in Canada through Permobil's surfaces channel. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The kit is one 36 inch surface, the pump, and the top and bottom covers. Permobil's current sheet lists it for clients at high to very high risk for pressure injuries.

This is an institutional-grade system, not a foam replacement. If the care plan only needs a self-adjusting hybrid that can stay off the wall outlet, start with the Permobil Atlas Hybrid. If foam and gel are enough, see the Permobil Allay. Another powered low-air-loss path we sell is the Fusion 4K true low air loss mattress.

Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a person at high to very high risk of pressure injuries who needs timed alternating pressure, heel offload, and a pump that can keep running through a short power cut. Facilities and home-care teams usually call us when a therapist has named Pro-Care Optima, when a foam surface is no longer enough, or when the person spends long hours with the head of the bed raised.

The stock size is 36 inches wide by 79 inches long by 8 inches high, rated to 550 lb. There is no width picker. If you need 39 inch or a bariatric air surface, call us. This is not Optima 2, which is a different nylon-cover foam mattress.

  • Home or facility care when the care plan names alternating pressure plus heel offload
  • Anyone who needs Fowler auto-inflate when the head of the bed goes past 30 degrees
  • Anyone who needs a built-in battery so therapy can continue during a move or a short outage

Construction and how it works

Pro-Care Optima is an alternating-pressure system with micro low air loss. A pump inflates 21 TPU cells, 8 inches high, in a 1-in-2 pattern. Cycle times are 10, 15, 20, or 25 minutes. Three zones share the surface: a static head pillow, a torso zone, and a lower-leg zone. Six cell-in-cell bladders sit under the sacrum so the surface does not collapse when the person sits up.

A one-handed knob on the lower-leg section deflates up to two cells so the heels can float. When the head of the bed is raised over 30 degrees, the system auto-inflates the seat area. Plug it in and the default program starts. One more touch sets a different cycle or mode. Permobil Canada includes a built-in battery backup on PCOPT. That backup can provide therapy for six hours during transport or a power failure. A CPR knob dumps the air in seconds. The cover is fluid-resistant, four-way stretch PU / polyester. Apex, the pump manufacturer, also lists a micro low air loss path for heat and moisture.

Permobil Pro-Care Optima specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU PCOPT. The specification tab holds the stored values. Permobil Canada's January 2026 surfaces guide lists 36 inches wide by 79 inches long by 8 inches high, and a 550 lb (250 kg) maximum client weight. Apex prints the same 550 lb limit, 21 cells, 1-in-2 alternating, and flame standards EN 597-1 and EN 597-2.

Pump size is 13.4 by 6.5 by 10.2 inches (34.1 by 16.5 by 26.0 cm). The pump weighs 11.0 lb with the battery and 9.9 lb without. The mattress body is about 20.2 lb (9.2 kg). Cycle times are 10, 15, 20, and 25 minutes. Warranty for the original purchaser is a 2 year limited warranty on the Procare Series. Permobil also prints a 1 year warranty on Wellell covers.

What you choose

There is no size picker. PCOPT is the 36 inch system: air surface, pump, and covers. If you need a different width, a quilted nylon cover, or a clinician in-service, call (905) 451-7743 before you order.

Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), hardship funding programs, and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this mattress across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, place it on the bed, connect the pump, and show you the one-touch start, the heel knob, and the CPR release before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a mattress first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased mattresses are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital mattresses are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the mattress is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Which Westin beds this mattress fits

PCOPT is a 36 inch by 79 inch by 8 inch replacement. It sits on a 36 inch homecare or long-term-care deck such as the Permobil Halsa, the Drive Delta 1000, or the Joerns EasyCare. The 79 inch length is about 1 inch short of an 80 inch deck. Ask us if the therapist wants that gap filled. This system is not a 42 inch bariatric air surface.

Service and warranty

When the pump, the cells, or the cover needs work, you call the shop that set the system up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Pro-Care / Wellell warranty

Permobil Canada's January 2026 surfaces guide prints a 2 year limited warranty on the Procare Series and a 1 year warranty on Wellell covers. We handle the claim with you. Keep the pump and the mattress together when you call.

Frequently asked questions

How is alternating pressure different from foam?

Foam stays still and the person sinks into it. Alternating pressure uses a pump to raise and lower every other cell on a timer so load moves from one set of cells to the other. Pro-Care Optima also has a small low-air-loss path for heat and moisture. Your therapist decides which class the care plan needs.

How do I clean the Pro-Care cover?

The cover is fluid-resistant, four-way stretch, and zippered. Wipe it with a facility-approved cleaner for PU / polyester healthcare fabric, then rinse and dry. Do not soak the cells or the pump. Ask us for the current cleaning note before you use bleach on the cover.

What is the weight rating?

Permobil and Apex both print 550 lb (250 kg) for PCOPT. The bed frame has its own limit. Use the lower of the two.

What size is PCOPT?

36 inches wide, 79 inches long, and 8 inches high. That is the only stock size sold as PCOPT. It is not 10 inches high and it is not a full 80 inch length. Confirm the deck with us if the bed is a strict 80 inch consumer Twin XL.

How loud is the pump?

Apex and Permobil have not published a decibel rating for this pump. It sits at the foot of the bed and runs whenever therapy is on. If the bedroom is noise-sensitive, ask us about a quieter class or about placing the pump on a padded surface before you order.

What is the warranty on the Pro-Care Optima?

Two years limited on the Procare Series. One year on Wellell covers. Westin Healthcare processes the claim. Details are on our service and repairs page.

Can funding help with this mattress in Ontario?

Several Ontario funding routes can help with a therapeutic support surface. Eligibility depends on the person's situation and assessment. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before anyone starts paperwork.

Can I rent this system before I buy?

Westin rents hospital beds with a standard therapeutic mattress. Pro-Care Optima is a sold, care-plan-specific system. If you only need a bed and a basic surface for a short recovery, start on the hospital bed rentals page. If the therapist named this pump, we schedule a purchased system and an in-home set-up.

What happens if the power goes out?

PCOPT includes a built-in battery backup. Permobil states it can provide therapy for six hours during transport or a power failure. That is a backup, not a second pump for everyday unplugged use. Keep the system charged and the power cord where staff can reach it.

What is included with this Pro-Care Optima?

The 36 inch air surface, the control unit, and the top and bottom covers, as Permobil's PCOPT kit. A bed frame and side rails are not included. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets up across Brampton and the GTA and shows you the one-touch start and the heel knob.

Is this the same as Optima 2?

No. Optima 2 is a 6 inch nylon-cover foam mattress. Pro-Care Optima is a powered 8 inch alternating-pressure system with a pump, heel offload, and a 550 lb rating.
