The Invacare Matrx Elite Back is Invacare and Motion Concepts' 3 in (76 mm) contour wheelchair back support with Easy Set hardware and a 300 lb (136 kg) rating. Westin Healthcare sells it and fits it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. It is the standard Elite. It is not the Elite TR tilt back and it is not the newer E2.
Motion Concepts lists Elite widths from 12-20 in (30-51 cm) and heights of 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 in (25-51 cm). Westin sells the Elite as a family order. We order the width and height after a seating check. The printed factory prefix is PBE.
Who this back support is for
This wheelchair back support is for a person who stays at or under 300 lb, uses a manual wheelchair with 3/4 in, 7/8 in, or 1 in back canes, and wants a light 3 in contour rather than a deep 6 in shell. Families usually call us when the sling back has gone slack and they still want a back the person can live with every day.

Fit, contour, and hardware
Match the Elite width to the trunk, not only to the seat sling. Motion Concepts mounting pins let a standard Elite sit on a chair the same width or 1 in wider. Optional extended pins reach a chair up to 2 in wider.
Easy Set clamps 1 in (25 mm) canes with no insert. 7/8 in (22 mm) and 3/4 in (19 mm) canes use the plastic inserts in the kit. Depth is 2 in in front of or behind the canes. Angle is a 40 degree range (+/- 20 degrees). The 14 in height is only listed up to 18 in wide.
Foam, cover, and care
The Invacare Matrx Elite Back uses oversized foam and a movable lumbar pad behind the main pad. The outer cover is moisture-resistant, breathable mesh (Meshtex). Motion Concepts says to wipe light soil with a 0.1% chlorine solution, rinse, and dry. For a badly soiled cover, remove the foam and machine-wash the cover at 80 C (176 F). Do not put the foam in the washer. Tumble dry not over 50 C (122 F) and not longer than 10 minutes. Do not use phenols, alcohols, bleaches, or abrasives.

Elite, Elite TR, or E2
Elite is the light 3 in PBE. The Elite TR adds SuperSoft foam and full shoulder support for tilt and recline. The Elite Deep is the 6 in contour (this shop's 18 x 18 is EDB1818). The Matrx E2 is the newer Elite series with Ripple Foam.
Foam back support, gel cushions, and air cushions
The Invacare Matrx Elite Back is a foam wheelchair back support for posture. A seat cushion is a different product. If the seating therapist wants a gel seat, see the JAY Ion. If they want an air seat, see the ROHO High Profile. Motion Concepts designed Elite for orientation in the chair, not as a seat cushion.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Invacare and Motion Concepts warrant the original purchaser 2 years on materials and workmanship. The term does not cover punctures, tears, burns, or the removable cover. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Is the Matrx Elite Back the Same as the Elite TR?
No. The Invacare Matrx Elite Back is the standard 3 in PBE. The Elite TR is a different Motion Concepts model with SuperSoft foam and full shoulder support for tilt and recline chairs.
What Size Wheelchair Cushion Do I Need?
A seat cushion is sized to the seat sling. The Invacare Matrx Elite Back is sized to the trunk and the cane width. Motion Concepts lists Elite from 12-20 in wide. We confirm both the cushion and the back with you or the seating therapist before we order.
How Do I Choose Between Gel, Foam, and Air Cushions?
The Invacare Matrx Elite Back is a foam back, not a seat cushion. Gel and air products such as the JAY Ion and the ROHO High Profile are seat cushions. Ask the seating therapist which seat the skin and posture need; the back is a separate choice.
