Description
The NXT Xtend is a Motion Composites height-adjustable thoracic wheelchair back support with 4 in (10 cm) of built-in height travel from 16 to 20 in. Westin Healthcare quotes and fits it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area after a seating check.
NXT is a Motion Composites seating brand. This is not a Future Mobility Prism back. A two-piece aluminum shell holds an adjustable upper thoracic section and a fixed pelvic section. The cover is smartx3D. The foam is smartGEL infused visco. Standard contour is 3.5 in. Xtend DEEP is 5.5-7 in.
Who this back support is for
This height adjustable wheelchair back is for a person whose therapist wants thoracic laterals they can raise or lower without swapping shells, at or under 300 lb (136 kg) on 16-20 in widths or 400 lb (181 kg) on 22 in and wider. Families usually call us when the person's trunk height is still changing, or when one back has to serve more than one chair height.
If you want a Prism rigid foam shell, start with the Prism Ultra Back or the Prism Truefitt Back. If you were quoted a ROHO air back, see the ROHO Agility Max Contour. A seating therapist should set the first height and contour. We do not give clinical positioning advice. Ask the seating therapist.
- 16-20 in (41-51 cm) stepless height
- Widths 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 in
- QuickFit hardware and one-hand release
Height, foam, and hardware
Height and lateral-contour height set with the person in the chair. The upper section bends in or out. The lower section stays fixed for the pelvis. A scapula cut-out leaves room for the shoulders. smartx3D is a three-layer antimicrobial polyester 4-way stretch cover. smartGEL is gel-infused visco foam. Motion Composites prints that the pair wicks moisture and draws heat from the surface.
QuickFit sets height, depth, angle, and rotation without taking the hardware apart. The product page lists up to 25 degrees anterior/posterior and up to 5 in of depth, on metric and imperial canes. A 4-point mount is the other factory option. One-hand quick release takes the shell off the chair. Infection-control inner and outer covers, laterals, and head supports are options.
NXT Xtend specifications
These figures are Motion Composites' current Xtend spec sheet and product page. The specification tab holds the stored values. Use the spec sheet when they fight.
Xtend: 4.1 lb (1.86 kg) on a 16 in shell, 3.5 in (8.9 cm) contour. Xtend DEEP: 4.7 lb (2.13 kg), 5.5-7 in (14-18 cm) contour. Height 16-20 in (40.6-50.8 cm). Width 16-24 in (40.6-61 cm); each width fits a chair 0-2 in wider than the shell. Capacity 300 lb (136 kg); 400 lb (181 kg) at 22 in wide and above. Warranty: 24 months from delivery on the NXT back support, first user.
How we order this back
Call (905) 451-7743 with the chair width, whether the therapist wants standard Xtend or Xtend DEEP, and whether they want QuickFit or 4-point hardware. We confirm the Motion Composites size code and send a quote before anything is built. Optional laterals and head supports go on that same quote.
NXT Xtend or a Prism back
The NXT Xtend is a two-piece height-adjustable thoracic shell from Motion Composites. Prism backs from Future Mobility are one-piece shells with a fixed height per size. The Prism Ultra Back and Prism Truefitt Back are the closest Prism steps when the therapist wants foam laterals or cubes instead of NXT height travel. The ROHO Agility Max Contour is an air-cell back, not an NXT.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers this wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, fit the QuickFit hardware when the chair allows, and show you the height lock and the one-hand release before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a back support first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased seating is delivered on a scheduled date.
This back support is smaller than a hospital bed. If it is going outside the GTA, ask us about parcel or freight shipping. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty
When something on the back support needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Motion Composites NXT manufacturer warranty
Motion Composites warrants the NXT back support to the first user for 24 months from the date of delivery, not transferable. Cover care follows the printed wash symbols (warm gentle, no bleach). Wear, misuse, and unauthorised changes sit outside that term. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions

What Size Wheelchair Back Do I Need?
The NXT Xtend is sold 16, 18, 20, 22, or 24 in wide. Each width fits a chair from that width up to 2 in wider. Height then travels 16-20 in on the same shell. Call us with the chair width and whether the therapist wants standard or DEEP.
Does ADP Cover Wheelchair Cushions?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can fund qualifying seating through an authorizer assessment. A specific Xtend size is not guaranteed. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
What Is the Difference Between Xtend and Xtend DEEP?
The NXT Xtend has a 3.5 in (8.9 cm) contour. NXT Xtend DEEP has a 5.5-7 in (14-18 cm) adjustable contour. Both share the 16-20 in height travel.
What Is the Weight Capacity of the NXT Xtend?

Can I Change the Height While I Am Sitting?
Motion Composites prints that NXT Xtend height and lateral-contour height can be set with the person seated in the wheelchair.
How Do I Clean the NXT Xtend Cover?
The NXT smartx3D cover washes warm (60 C / 140 F) on a gentle cycle with regular detergent. Do not bleach, iron, or dry clean. Air dry or tumble dry on low. Keep the foam dry.
What Is the Warranty on the NXT Xtend?
Motion Composites warrants the NXT back support for 24 months from delivery to the first user.
Is There an Xtend for Shorter Users?
Motion Composites also makes NXT Xtend LOW, which travels 13-17 in. Ask us if the therapist wants that lower band instead of the 16-20 in Xtend.
