Description

The Span America Geo-Mattress Max is Span America's high-spec non-powered foam hospital mattress. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it on the bed for homes and care settings in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Max is the three-tier Geo-Mattress. A 2 inch Geo-Matt segmented top, a viscoelastic memory-foam foot section on Heel Slope, and firm perimeter bolsters sit on a progressive-resistance core. Span lists a 6 inch height at the centre, a weight of about 24 lbs, a 400 lb rating, and a 7-year non-prorated warranty on the core. The default size on this page is 80 by 35 by 6 inches (MX8035-29).

Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a person who needs a non-powered foam surface with more immersion and heel protection than a single-layer foam top, and who stays within 400 lbs. Span lists Max for prevention of Stage 1 to 4 pressure injuries. After a full skin assessment, Span also lists it as a surface that may be appropriate for a single Stage 2 pressure injury. Span also lists the general patient population, moderate to high risk for skin breakdown, decreased mobility, and a person who repositions often, by themselves or with a caregiver.

This page is the Max tier only. Plus is the two-layer Geo-Mattress with a 6-year core. Pro is the single-layer Geo-Mattress with a 300 lb rating. UltraMax is a different Geo-Mattress: a UHP 500 seat section, Shear Transfer Zones, a 500 to 600 lb rating, an 8-year warranty, and 36, 39, and 42 inch institutional widths. Atlas is the 7 inch bariatric Geo-Mattress. If the clinician named UltraMax, Atlas, Plus, or Pro, ask us for that model.

  • 35 inch institutional decks such as the Span America Advantage (80 by 35 inches matches MX8035-29)
  • 32, 75, 78, and 84 inch institutional lengths when the deck is that size
  • Twin, full, queen, and king consumer sizes when the frame is a consumer size

Construction and how it works

The Max is a non-powered foam mattress. There is no pump. Span builds it as three tiers. The top is a 2 inch Geo-Matt surface with more than 800 individually articulating cells and Ring-of-Air channels. Each cell can move with the person, which is how Span describes the reduction in shear, heat, and moisture next to the skin.

The foot third adds a viscoelastic memory-foam insert on Heel Slope. The slope is a gentle taper that moves load onto the lower legs. The memory foam cradles the heels. Firm perimeter bolsters run the long edges so transfers and edge-of-bed sitting have a stable rim, and so the gap at the siderails stays small.

The cover is fluid-repellent, bacteriostatic, antimicrobial, and antifungal, with a hidden zipper and a coated underside. Every current Max code ends in -29, Span's fire-barrier version.

SPAN Geo-Mattress Max specifications

These figures are for the Span America Geo-Mattress Max MX family. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Span lists a height of 6 inches at the centre, a mattress weight of about 24 lbs, and a 400 lb weight limit. The usual institutional size is 80 by 35 by 6 inches. Other published sizes are 75, 78, and 84 inches long on a 35 inch width, 80 by 32 inches, and consumer Twin 75 by 39, Full 75 by 54, Queen 80 by 60, and King 80 by 76. All of those are 6 inches tall at the centre.

Warranty for the original purchaser is 7 years, non-prorated, on the mattress core, and 2 years on the cover.

Size options

Use Size to pick the deck you will run. The default on this page is 80 x 35 x 6 in (MX8035-29). Span notes extra lead time on the 32 inch, 78 inch, Twin, Full, Queen, and King rows.

  • 80 x 35 x 6 in (MX8035-29)
  • 84 x 35 x 6 in (MX8435-29)
  • 75 x 35 x 6 in (MX7535-29)
  • 80 x 32 x 6 in (MX8032-29)
  • 78 x 35 x 6 in (MX7835-29)
  • 75 x 39 x 6 in Twin (MX7539-29)
  • 75 x 54 x 6 in Full (MX7554-29)
  • 80 x 60 x 6 in Queen (MX8060-29)
  • 80 x 76 x 6 in King (MX8076-29)

A 42 inch Max is a special-order size. Ask us if the care team named 42 inches rather than Atlas or UltraMax.

Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this mattress across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, place it on the bed, and show you the segmented top, the heel slope, and the firm edges before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a mattress first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased mattresses are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital mattresses are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the mattress is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Which beds this mattress fits

Span publishes Max in the sizes on the Size selector. Span's fit rule is to match the mattress to the bed frame and keep gaps small. A 35 by 80 inch Max (MX8035-29) is the size for a 35 by 80 inch hospital deck. That is the sleep surface on the Span America Advantage. A 35 by 84 inch Max is the size for an 84 inch 35 inch deck. A 32 inch Max is the size for a 32 inch deck.

The Span America Encore runs 36, 39, and 42 inches. Those widths are the UltraMax institutional set, not the Max 35 inch set. If the Encore is the bed, ask us to size the surface to the width you will actually run.

Consumer Twin, Full, Queen, and King Max sizes are for consumer frames of those names, not for a 36 inch homecare hospital deck. A 36 by 80 inch foam surface we already sell is the Blake Viva. Another foam hospital mattress we already sell is the Gravity 9. See all medical mattresses if you are still choosing a surface, including the Span PressureGuard Custom Care and Span-Care surfaces we already sell.

Service and warranty

When something on the mattress needs work, you call the shop that set it up. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Span America manufacturer warranty

Span America covers the mattress core for 7 years, non-prorated, and the cover for 2 years, for the original purchaser. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

How is Max different from Geo-Mattress UltraMax?

Both are Span Geo-Mattress foam surfaces. Max is the three-tier mattress with a visco heel slope, firm bolsters, a 400 lb rating, and a 7-year core warranty. Institutional Max widths are 32 and 35 inches. UltraMax is the higher-capacity Geo-Mattress with a UHP 500 seat, Shear Transfer Zones, a 500 to 600 lb rating, an 8-year warranty, and 36, 39, and 42 inch institutional widths. If the clinician named UltraMax, that is a different page.

How is Max different from Plus and Pro?

All three share the Geo-Matt top and Heel Slope. Max is three tiers with a viscoelastic foot section, firm bolsters, a 400 lb rating, and a 7-year core. Plus is two layers with a 6-year core. Pro is one layer with a 300 lb rating and a 5-year core.

Does this mattress need a pump?

No. The Geo-Mattress Max is non-powered foam. There is no control unit and no overnight pump sound.

What is the weight rating?

Span lists 400 lbs for Geo-Mattress Max. If the person is near or over 400 lbs, ask us about a higher-capacity surface such as Atlas or UltraMax rather than stretching this rating.

What size fits my bed?

Match the Size row to the deck. A 35 by 80 inch hospital bed takes MX8035-29. A 35 by 84 inch deck takes MX8435-29. A 36 inch deck is not one of the Max institutional widths. Span's fit rule is to keep gaps between the mattress and the frame small.

How do I clean the cover?

Span's care steps are to wipe the cover with neutral soap suds and lukewarm water, rinse with a damp cloth, and let it air dry for 20 to 30 minutes. Do not soak the mattress. Span does not recommend laundering the cover. For disinfection, Span lists a hospital-grade (tuberculocidal) disinfectant and recommends a phenolic or quaternary type. Follow the disinfectant label for contact time and rinsing.

Does Span name a pressure-injury stage for Max?

Yes. Span lists Max for prevention of Stage 1 to 4 pressure injuries, and, after a full skin assessment, as a surface that may be appropriate for a single Stage 2 pressure injury. We do not add a stage the clinician did not name.

What is Heel Slope?

Heel Slope is Span's tapered foot section. It moves load onto the lower legs so the heels sit with less pressure. On Max the taper is paired with a viscoelastic memory-foam insert cut in the Geo-Matt pattern.

Can funding help pay for this mattress in Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover mattresses. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community programs may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.

How fast can this mattress be delivered in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased mattresses across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased mattress. Span notes extra lead time on several Max sizes.

What is included?

You get the Span America Geo-Mattress Max in the Size you pick, with the bacteriostatic cover already on it. The bed frame is sold separately. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets it up across Brampton and the GTA.

What is the warranty on the Geo-Mattress Max?

Span America covers the mattress core for 7 years, non-prorated, and the cover for 2 years, for the original purchaser. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.
