Span America Encore Bed Package

The Span America Encore is Span America's premium long-term care hospital bed, sold as the MC9R / Encore series with ReadyWide. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for long-term care homes and for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area whose therapist has asked for this grade of bed.

Four motors move the height, the back, the knee, and the clinical positions. A hand pendant and a foot-end staff controller share the work. Span lists a floor-to-deck range of 7-7/8 inches to 31 inches, a 600 lb safe working load, and a 450 lb maximum patient weight. ReadyWide expands the sleep surface from 36 inches to 39 inches, then to 42 inches. GlideAlign retracts the deck 12 inches as the head rises so the person stays lined up on the bed.

Who this bed is for

This bed is for a long-term care setting, or for a private home that needs the same clinical features a care home would specify. It is not a basic homecare frame. Span writes the Encore for Application Environment 3 (long-term care): staff lockouts, Comfort Chair, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, Smart Stop, and a retractable deck.

Purchasing coordinators and directors of care usually call us when a resident needs a low, expandable, retractable deck with a 600 lb safe working load. What you get

The Encore we sell is the ReadyWide configuration (manufacturer code MC9RW). ReadyWide expanders ship on the frame. The hand pendant runs everyday height, back, knee, auto-contour, Comfort Chair, and the under-bed light. The foot-end staff controller adds lockouts, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, Comfort Chair, and rapid head lowering. Smart Stop pauses lowering at 12.5 inches. Only the staff controller can take the deck the rest of the way down to 7-7/8 inches. Lights flash in that low zone. The under-bed lights can stay on as night lighting.

The current listing states that the package includes molded half rails and a 36 inch standard head and footboard. A mattress is not on this page. Use the selectors to set sleep length, board size, board style, board colour, and extras.

Span America Encore specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU ENCORE, the Span America Encore MC9R series with ReadyWide. The specification tab holds the stored values. Span's current brochure and owner manual list a floor-to-deck height of 7-7/8 inches to 31 inches, a sleep surface of 36, 39, or 42 inches wide and 76, 80, or 84 inches long, and an overall length of 82, 86, or 90 inches with the boards on. Width with side rails is 40-1/2, 43-1/2, or 46-1/2 inches. The 84 inch sleep length needs Span's 4 inch extender kit, which is not one of the selectors on this page.

Safe working load is 600 lbs for the person, the mattress, the boards, the rails, and anything else on the bed. Maximum patient weight on Span's owner manual is 450 lbs. Back elevation is 0 to 70 degrees. Knee elevation is 0 to 30 degrees.

Warranty for the original purchaser is 15 years on the frame, 15 years on welds, 5 years on the control box and actuators, and 1 year on batteries, hand pendants, foot-end controllers, cables, wear parts, and bed accessories. Labour is not included.

The gooseneck holder is Span part Q6417LP. The trapeze bar (Q6730) needs the trapeze mounting frame (Q6731). The I.V. pole and bracket ship together on that one row. Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including ODSP, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, hardship funding programs, and community support programs.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Span America manufacturer warranty

Span America's standard warranty for the original purchaser is 15 years on the frame, 15 years on welds, 5 years on the control box and actuators, and 1 year on batteries, hand pendants, foot-end controllers, cables, wear parts, and bed accessories. Labour is not included. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Does OHIP cover hospital beds?

What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?

The Span America Encore is full electric. The pendant and the foot-end staff controller move height, back, and knee, and the staff controller also runs Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, and Comfort Chair. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank.

Is the Span America Encore a home care bed?

Span specifies the Encore as a long-term care bed, not a basic homecare frame. Families still order it when a therapist wants GlideAlign, Smart Stop, or ReadyWide in a private bedroom. If you need a simpler Span long-term care bed, start with the Advantage. If you need a standard homecare package, ask us about the Drive Delta 1000 family instead.

How is the Encore different from the Span America Advantage?

Both are Span long-term care beds that lower to 7-7/8 inches. The Encore adds GlideAlign (12 inches of deck retraction), ReadyWide expansion from 36 to 42 inches, a 600 lb safe working load, and a 31 inch high position. The Advantage uses a 35 inch deck, a 500 lb safe working load, and a 30 inch high position, without the retractable deck.

What mattress fits the Span America Encore?

Span's sleep surface is 36, 39, or 42 inches wide and 76, 80, or 84 inches long. This listing does not include a mattress selector, so we size the surface to the width and length you will run. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure or low-air-loss surface.

Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?

Westin Healthcare rents standard full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. The Encore itself is a purchase item. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to the bed you keep.
