Description
The Invacare Leo 4-Wheel Scooter is a mid-size indoor and outdoor scooter with a 350 lb (159 kg) rating, an 8 km/h (5 mph) top speed, and up to 36 km (22 miles) of range on the included 36 Ah batteries. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Invacare builds the Leo for people who want a compact 4-wheel platform that still takes apart for the car. The Canada specification table rates the 4-wheel Leo at 47.5 in (121 cm) long and 23.6 in (60 cm) wide, with a 51 in (130 cm) turning radius. It is not a folding airline scooter.
Who this scooter is for
The Leo is for a person who needs a 350 lb rating, a swivel seat about 19 in (48 cm) wide, and a scooter that can work in a shop aisle and on a paved path. Families usually call us when a travel scooter feels too small and a full-size outdoor scooter feels too long.
If you want more speed, more ground clearance, and 75 Ah batteries, see the Invacare Pegasus Pro or the Invacare Comet Pro. The Leo is not a 400 lb heavy-duty outdoor scooter and it is not a lithium folding travel scooter.
- Mid-size 4-wheel, 350 lb (159 kg)
- Up to 36 km (22 miles) on 2 x 36 Ah batteries, included
- Takes apart into five pieces; 4-wheel chassis about 46 kg (101 lb)
Range, speed, and batteries
Invacare Canada's table rates the Leo at up to 36 km (22 miles) on a single charge and 8 km/h (5 mph). That range is an ISO 7176-2 estimate using a 100 kg (220 lb) test dummy. Real range shortens with a heavier rider, cold weather, hills, soft tyres, and older batteries.
The Leo ships with two 12 V, 36 Ah batteries and a 5 A off-board charger. Invacare's user manual says to charge 18 hours before first use, to charge after each day's riding, and that a typical recharge can take up to 12 hours depending on how far the pack was drained. It also asks for a 16 hour charge at least once a week and a 24 hour charge once a week so both batteries finish together. Charge in a dry room, not above 30 C and not in the cold.
Portability and transport
The Leo takes apart without tools into five pieces. Invacare's Leo manual lists the 4-wheel chassis at about 46 kg (101 lb), the seat at about 14 kg (31 lb), and each battery at about 12 kg (26 lb). The assembled scooter with batteries is 184 lb (83.5 kg). That is car-boot take-apart, not a one-hand lift.
Invacare does not publish airline approval for the 36 Ah sealed batteries. A folding lithium travel scooter is the usual plane path. Ask the airline how it wants a lead-acid mobility scooter prepared before you book. For a van or hatchback at home, we can show you the five-piece split when we deliver.

Mid-size or full-size 4 wheel mobility scooter
Stay on the Leo if you want a shorter 4-wheel scooter that comes apart for a car and includes its 36 Ah batteries. Move to the Pegasus Pro if you want 15 km/h (9.3 mph), 12 in tyres, front and rear suspension, and room for 75 Ah batteries. Move to the Comet Pro if you want the same 15 km/h class on 13 in tyres and a 57 in (145 cm) outdoor deck. All three are 4-wheel scooters we sell and service in Brampton.
Funding help for a mobility scooter in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a mobility scooter when the need is long-term and the scooter is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every scooter qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Frequently asked questions
How far can a mobility scooter go?
The Invacare Leo 4-Wheel Scooter is rated up to 36 km (22 miles) on the included 36 Ah batteries, measured to ISO 7176-2 with a 100 kg (220 lb) dummy. A heavier rider, cold weather, hills, or a tired pack will shorten that figure.
How long does it take to charge a mobility scooter?
The Invacare Leo typically needs up to 12 hours to recharge after a day's riding, depending on how far the pack was drained. Invacare also asks for 18 hours before first use, a 16 hour charge at least once a week, and a 24 hour charge once a week.
Can I take a mobility scooter on a plane?
The Invacare Leo is not published as airline-approved. Its 36 Ah sealed batteries are lead-acid take-apart packs, not a folding lithium travel battery. Ask the airline how it wants a lead-acid mobility scooter prepared, and look at a folding lithium scooter if air travel is the main job.
Can you use a mobility scooter in the rain?
The Invacare Leo has splash guards on the transaxle and electronics and is tested to IPX4 spray water. That covers typical wet weather. It is not a waterproof scooter. Dry the tiller, avoid deep puddles, and charge indoors.
Do mobility scooters work in winter?
The Invacare Leo can run on cleared, hard surfaces in cold weather, but Invacare warns not to charge the batteries in low temperature and not above 30 C. Range falls in the cold. It is not rated as a snow scooter.
Will a mobility scooter fit through a doorway?
The Invacare Leo is 23.6 in (60 cm) wide with a 51 in (130 cm) turning radius. Many interior doors are 30 to 32 in, so the width usually fits. The turning circle is the tighter check in a hallway or washroom. Measure the door and the turn before you buy.
3 wheel vs 4 wheel scooter?
The Invacare Leo 4-Wheel Scooter uses four wheels for a more planted feel on uneven pavement. A 3-wheel scooter usually turns tighter and can feel lighter in a shop aisle. Invacare also makes a 3-wheel Leo. We stock the 4-wheel LEO-4R. Sit on both layouts if you can.
Does ADP cover scooters?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can fund mobility equipment after an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist. Whether a specific scooter is approved depends on the person and the device. Talk to us before you buy. We will point you to the right route.
What is the weight capacity of a mobility scooter?
The Invacare Leo 4-Wheel Scooter is rated at 350 lbs (159 kg) for the rider plus anything carried on the scooter. Stay at or under that rating.
Can I rent a mobility scooter?
Westin Healthcare can talk through a scooter rental when you only need one for a recovery or you want to live with a mid-size scooter before you buy. Call (905) 451-7743. Purchased Leos are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
